  1. Sounds good, will have to stop by.
  2. Yikes! Way to go!
  3. Thanks guys.
  4. Thanks man, they were fighting browns, that 's for sure.
  5. I did, a few smaller ones, even jigged a black Meat Whistle, got a few 'bows to check it, but no charges. Water's very low, and lots of submerged leaves, making nymphing a headache at times. Some rain would be nice.
  6. Got there at a leisurely time since it was so cold. I was on the stream at 9 something. Same drill, walked down the trail at Baptist, to a 'usual and accustomed ' place. Worked the same hole where I landed the big brown last March (time flies). RL w. PT dropper, nice rainbow after a few casts. It slowed a bit so I switched the PT to one w. rainbow sow scud dub on the thorax, #16, copper BH--nice hard hit, fat 16" brown, beautiful colors and a great fighter. Moved up to different holes after that, not finding much success. Finally got to the first deep hole downstream f. the parking lot. where the river turns slightly. (I had no luck in the big S turn where the dead fall was.) I've had limited luck here in the past. Put on a new PT variation w. biot wings w. zebra midge trailing and split shot above. Missed a take and saw a big brown shake his head and spin around like he was hooked, but my rig was in the air. Must have felt the sting? Not sure. Anyway, he was big--20" or so, he slowly drifted away downstream. If only...! So I kept working and another hard hit, 14" brown, beautifully colored also and another good fight, hit the zebra. These trout look great now. Landed a nice bow after that, then lost another smaller bow after. This hole was full. It slowed down so I put on a cream midge w. copper BH, another hard hit, 13" brown, another beauty. It slowed after that and I felt vindicated at that hole. Headed back for late lunch and beer, decided to head home. Beautiful browns on PT/midges, on my birthday...yep a good day.
  7. #8 Pat's Rubber Leg, vary the colors. Had most hits on the rust/olive chenille w. olive legs and with rust legs. Also caught them on the 'orange'/black, I don't know the color. When the fly is wet the colors look good.
  8. You are welcome. Rich is the man. Like the idea of a mottled look w. two marabou.
  9. Go for it, you big nasty tiers! I really like the brown/tan version. Rich Strolis again!
  10. Yeow! What a beautiful 'bow! Nice work!

I missed this posting--great pics and sounds like an excellent time!
  12. Just read the blog report, what a day...It's great to find new spots and get many hook-ups. Great report!
  13. Just read the report on your blog, great stuff! The western streams and dry fly action, yeah!
  14. Nice! Hope to get back there soon.
  15. Good stuff...nice to hear about the local history of fly tying.
  16. Another excellent vid, and nice brown. Love the holes/runs you fished, have to get back...
  17. You are welcome. Cannot stop thinking about this stream, the fish, the scenery...
  18. Thanks guys. We did not cover all the water we were supposed to, passing a lot of great looking water. Town of Wallace is a fun little historic town with restaurants, two brew pubs, great shops. We also hit a beautiful lake for some small 'bows and brookies. A little cool that day so the bite was off. Again, cannot wait to get back.
  19. What a beautiful part of the country! Visited my son Andrew and his girl Katie during week after Labor Day. The N. Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River meanders in a long circle north of Wallace, ID, fed by many creeks. Wild cutthroats and rainbows only, all C&R. There was some info about 18-22" ones but we didn't get into any. All fish caught on top with: parachute-style caddis, Adams, Klinkhammer, Royal Wulff, and red Humpy. These fish smack the fly. Landed 2 fish at just above 14", great fighters. Andrew out-hooked me but is still working on his playing/landing. What a trip. Hope to come back next year, maybe Spring.
  20. More great pics, great post!

Wow, thanks for the recipes. I'm heading out West next week to N. Idaho, will try some of those rabbit streamers. Thanks again!
  23. Great pics and post. I'm heading West next week, panhandle of ID, north of Kellogg, lakes and CDA River. My son has already hit a lake with nice brookies.
  24. Just slow down on your strokes, feel the weight of the sink tip pull on your back cast, then push it forward. Also, like mentioned, a short leader with loop knot for your streamer.

Trying this out West in the panhandle of ID in a little over 3 weeks, not that I'm counting or anything... It's high labor fishing--casting, stipping, walking on a small stream. And, you do have to vary the retrieve, but, the payoff's, while not very often, are usually big.
