Well... I Guess We Should Share The News
bigdub replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
Awesome, will definately book a trip once you get it all ironed out!! I've been looking for a "descent' excuse to get back up there!!! -
I'm pretty sure there are a couple of those in Taney with my jig in their mouths LOL!!!
-
Be careful with that Techtan line!!!!!!! I bought 2 spools of the 5.1LB and one role was a bad batch or something, I broke off nearly twenty times in one day on hook sets!! I would jerk and my line would just snap. The other roll was fine, so far, but that one spool was total garbage. This isn't the first time I've heard of this problem either. The line is great other than that issue and I have had no problems other than that one bad roll, but it sure made for a frustrating couple of outings. There are others on here who have encountered the same problem I've seen, I would probably just go with some 6# flouro and call it good!!
-
I also use 4# Vanish and if Iam struggling with bites I'll tie one some 6 or 7X tippet for a leader!! Normally fish 6X exculsively on the flyrod unless its extremely clear water and sunny then 7X, but 90% of the time its 4# and 6X for me!!

I totally agree with you all, those tubs aren't borderline dangerous, they are dangersous!! In my humble opinion a fairly narrow and winding lake like Table Rock is no place for those things, simply due to the fact that they are very limited on where they can safely go. I just don't want to see The Rock turn into LOZ, that place to me is nearly unfishable and a total irritation to me in the summer!! Also, I don't know where these people learned to opperate these monstrosities, but you'd think if they have enough jack to buy one of those boats that they could surely afford to mix in a safety course or 2 LOL!! I agree with you though Tom, MONEY TALKS and thats the end of that, just keep hoping nothing terribly tragic happens at the hands of one of these outfits!!

Awesoem pic!! I wish I would have been there right after the gates shut with some white jigs!! Maybe I could have broken off a couple also LOL!!! I never really hear anything about it though, guess I better pay more attention!!

Best Ozark Springtime Bass Lures!
bigdub replied to BassMaster2's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Any size shakeyhead with anything in a watermelon color for me, great for springtime in the Ozarks and especially on The Rock!!! -
I agree with Cricket, I can't get the action I want with a jig on a flyrod without using a indicator(BOBBER) LOL and suspending and twitching it or using choppy water!! I am no pro fly fisherman by any stretch of the imagination and haven't practice the this technique a great deal, but I just can't feel the strikes or get a good action on the jig!!

Hey just wondering if anyone has been up in Roark lately? I ventured in the mouth late Sunday evening and caught about a 2lb smallie under the second dock on a white jig, but it was getting dark and had to head back up to the condo. I would love to hear if anybody has given it any time and what they've came up with in there, gonna try and hit it on Sat for awhile if its worth it!! Thanks!!

I would use and 1/8oz if the water is running and anywhere from 1/32 to 3/32oz if its off!! I would trow a 3/32 casting out with the water off and use a 1/32 kind of just vertical jigging around the dock(just letting it fall and twitching it every once in awhile). You just kind of have to see what they rae wanting, but I would definately use either Sculpin/Ginger or Olive, these have been on fire for me lately and for sure try white, but if it doesn't get bit on the first few casts they don't want it so switch it out!! Hope this helps!!

If I was you I would get some jigs, some of the biggest trout I have ever caught have been pitching jigs around docks! If you are fishing from the dock, just throw em out and bounce em back on the bottom! You could also probably vertically jig around the dock if the water is deeper, they will hold all around the docks. Just my 2 cents, but I have been successful using em around docks and other structure and they do also tend to attract the attention of the larger, more predatory trout(sometimes) when they are mixed in with the stockers and smaller fish! iIwould also be that you will catch more fish using jigs than you will with powerebait and it's a lot less of a hassle, many people are coverted to using jigs over anything else once they give it a try and kind of figure out what its all about!! Good Luck with it!!

I was not aware of this issue on these lands, I thought the whole point of the pretty much open season and no bag limit was to thin the population, what difference does the money make?
-
I couldn't agree more, I loose too many jigs to have an elaborate method LOL!! I just keep it as cheap and effortless as possible, I also use the lighter method and have never had any issues with the paint, but I do also let them cure in an old toaster oven!!!

I was in Swan on Sunday, the water is still high, but there were soooooooooo many carp up in the flood brush, it was rediculous! Saw guys bowfishing them and I saw probably over 30 that were at theast 15 pounds and a couple absolute monsters!! They didn't seem to be at all spooked by my boat banging around in the brush either, I would definately give it a try! Considering the water level, it was still very clear up in the shallows!!! I hope that helps!

I ventured into Bull on Sat for awhile and caught 6 nice crappie in about 15 minutes on a white jig and then they just quit!!! I switched colors, tried some swimming minnows....NADA!!! I was just chalking it up to a blind squirrel finding an acorn until I saw this LOL!! May have to go see if I can find some of those bluegill though!!!

What Is Your Favorite Pond Lure
bigdub replied to OzarkFishman's topic in General Angling Discussion
When fishing a new pond, I almost always like to start out with a 1/4oz White Roadrunner for at least a few casts! They're good for almost anything and give me the best chance for some action on nearly any species in a pond!! -
I hooked into a brown that looked similar to that this weekend right around that area, fought it for about 5 mins and got one good jump out of it before my hook broke off and my jig nearly hit me in the eye LOL!! what are the odds of the dang hook breaking, OH WELL, that fish didn't have a hook in its lip did it?

11 LB 12OZ, caught on a 3/8 oz Rattle Trap in about 2 ft of water on The Rock

JIGS, JIGS, JIGS!!!!!!!!!!! A variety of colors, sculpin is always a good go to, olive, ginger, you might throw white for awhile and just see, it'll either be super hot or worthless, but its always worth a couple casts!! I have been catching pretty consistently on 1/8th oz olive/ginger Zig Jigs in this high water, just throwing from a boat and workin it back, should be somewhat similar from the bank! In this high water though that would probably be your best bet without a fly rod, you'll at least catch a few almost guaranteed pitchin em out there!!
