  1. I always use red or fire orange thread. Possibly to give the look of blood in the head of the actual bug. Maybe for the eyes too.. as with this Gammarus minus (freshwater amphipod) : SCUD or this freshwater isopod, Isopoda Lirceus : SOWBUG
  2. Sure wish it was RHW. That's a steal of a deal !!
  3. You tried to educate. Good on ya ! I see it often... what Tim mentioned of the trout park treatment.. I see it here daily. Regularly. It's almost the norm. Seen a few fights.. almost got into one myself recently.. Last guy I talked to about keeping illegal small fish looked at me like he was a meth addict. He yelled at me... scared the crap out of me really. I walked on and looked back, he had left just a few minutes later.
  4. I had to re-read that one several times.... that is too funny...
  5. I just want to know where.....where was this shot captured ? The big Johnny Morris property keeps ringing the bell. (i.e. Dogwood Canyons 10k+ acres)
  6. dang / those little guys are cute !! if only I threw plugs.......
  7. Another mountain lion... this one in Branson. http://mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/mdc-confirms-photo-mountain-lion-taney-county Pretty close for comfort in my opinion.
  8. Ultimate die hard user or collectible, and with a hard to find era spare spool. Good deal here.... and the dual suede pouch is a nice touch.
  9. You could email or get into contact with Dave and Emily Whitlock. They have been to a number of resorts and done extensive talks on fly fishing Chile. Sure would be a fun way to rub elbows with one of the best about a destination fly fishing experience. http://www.davewhitlock.com/
  10. If you like soft'er rods.. this one is for you.. and me.. ugh! Glass is subtle... and when you learn it.. graphite tends to bite more.
  11. Cherry rod my good friend. Your work is fantastic!
  12. Certain colors do bring out the brown bite. Darker colored scuds with the water running seem to get bit better with Wollies and the like stripping seem to favor more streamlined and minnow'ish types when the water is off. Also, eyes on your flies make for more hookups. Brown trout like to ambush stuff.
  13. That brown is a big fish.. on a Peerless ? Ozark Bonefish reference... nice! But wow.. that's a monster net... What 6.5fter were you throwing ? was it glass ?
  14. Lancer - they have collectible card games ? or wait - they have Canadian cost guard licenses ? what is it man ?
  15. Agreed.. never trust the telephone message until you are actually there. I called the other day and told them to update it 'cause it clearly off when it said running water. Hopefully they (SWPA) gets.. ugh.. (on the phone now with them - got nowhere really)
  16. Got a chance to talk with the new owner tonight... sounds like a fresh start happening.
  17. I fished from 3pm til 5:45.. caught quite a few spawning colored male rainbows in the rebar area. Got to hook up and lose one really big fish.. possible 6-8lb'er or so.. not sure if it was rainbow or brown. Saw lots of fish on redds.. all bows. All my fishing was from top of rebar down to below the big uprooted tree using an indicator rig with a scud and a SanJuan worm brown colored worm. __11-1 Fished from 2:45 til 6pm...parked down at the lowest access. Caught plenty of fish below the boat ramp... tried to key in on dry flies .. quite tough. The fish were rising everywhere. Used anything short of 8X tippet.. but this one pattern worked throughout the day. Tried 7x fluro.. no takes.. 7x mono.. hookups. sz 18 Daaichi 1190 red thread body wisp of barred ginger hackle at the tip like one turn is too many...
  18. I thought this was worth sharing : This video (truly this waterway) is what Taney could become given proper management.
  19. For the first time in a long time I tried a sinking tip on Taney. Water running 2 units or thereabouts, but more water seemed to come on after about 5pm. I was using a Orvis Streamer Stripper 4ft mini type VI - or 6.. the heaviest available. It's a floating line streamlined with no loops into a type six mini 4ft tip. (5-6 inches sink rate per second) I fished it from below the boat ramp first, moved into the big hole next and then last up at number 1 outlet. Gave it about 4 hours. I saw many fish in the process of trying this technique that I could have caught with floating line and an indicator rig or just a beefy wooly by itself. (or even dries) I did manage a total of 6 fish.. tried a gazillion flies. Tried many different leader and tippet configurations. The only consistent for me was having difficulty finding room to cast this rig with the water up at 2 units. If it were 0 units.. I would have tried the clear tip intermediate type I. (10 ft tip) Long story short.. 7,200 cubic feet per second worth of water is pretty hard to cut through. What could I have done differently to increase my hook up ratio ? What situations have you used a sink tip or sinking line on Taney and been rather productive ? I am all ears. Brian <*))))>< by the way - my rig was a 9 1/2ft 5wt soft graphite rod.. mostly using 4X and 5X Rio FluoroFlex
  20. Sounds cool. I will hit up the shop this Friday. They gonna be open ? (but anything beats just the one and lowly Bass Pro fly shop.. ugh~)
  21. Wanting to buy a lightly used one of these. Anyone local have one to sell ? Please PM me. Must come with the box and booklet and everything it came with new, +/- any additional extras. Thanks, Brian (it will likely be a christmas gift for my dad)
  22. I called at 12:45pm today and drove up there only to find them running water. Seems they turned it on at 1pm and never did update the decktalk. The local recording # said 0 units and 701.6. at 3pm with 1 unit running for over 2 hours. So not only can you not trust the SWPA Projection, now you can't trust the local current generation line #. (417) 336-5083 is the local # - if enough of us knew that it is / was wrong.. we could probably bring it to the attention of someone.... EDIT at 1:25am Thursday - I called inside and they told me the SCADA isn't quite updated yet.. so it should be any day now that the decktalk (the local # line recorded message) and the reatime info is working together. They did know of the problem today... but couldn't do anything about it.
  23. The Orvis Clearwater vest is $59. http://www.orvis.com/store/product_directory_tnail.aspx?dir_id=758&group_id=781&cat_id=5138&subcat_id=6037 The LL Bean Emerger vest is $59. (lifetime satisfaction guarantee) http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/9963 Bass Pro sells quite a few different makers vests. http://www.basspro.com/Vests-%26-Packs/_/S-175008001
  24. Seriously ... what do you want us to say here ? The fishing is slow. The catching is slow. Stay home. In all good conscious.. I jest, but seriously.. come and fish and find out. Life is too short to not fish due to rumors and internet opinions. Whatever happened to getting skunked once in a while ?!?! Fishing is fishing. You gotta put in some time to reap some benefits. Sorry if that comes across a little harsh... but given your question.. it needed to be said.
  25. None that I have found. Just going off what they tell from the inside. ( I called the other day when the deck-talk kept saying 3 units and 701.6.. for hours, that's when I learned )
