  1. good stuff Rick - I met Spence Turner only once... cool cat
  2. ALWAYS look up a promo code for Cabelas and get free shipping. I used one yesterday and saved $13.45 -also- thanks for the heads up about the savings they are gone - the reels are, by the way (try red truck fly fishing.. excellent sale prices)
  3. ERA laundry detergent and an old sock with a hole it = clean cork BEFORE AFTER
  4. Someday one will find you. (a high end rod) And then it is hard to look back.
  5. I use everything from a 2-wt to a 9-wt. Everyday fishing is hard to say for Taney.... some days the water is off - other days it is running 4 units full blast. ( the difference is 60cfs to 14,400cfs ) I would say you need 2 rods. An 8ft 5wt and a 9ft 6wt.
  6. 13 feet 3 inches ---- 1380lbs! here is the story - http://www.ky3.com/n...43.photogallery another story from FOX News - http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/09/20/record-gator-caught-in-southwest-arkansas/ He plans to mount the head and then make boots out of the rest.
  7. Tom - well put. Funny though that the house brand stockingfoot and bootfoot cost the same.
  8. The .56'er is an (Arkansas) Ozarks creation by Tom Nixon, brother of MO gov Jay Nixon. Tying Link - http://www.taneycomotrout.com/howtotie56er.html Book Link - http://www.warmwaterflytyer.com/links2.asp?page=2 You can search for the book... but if you buy one - only buy the copyright 1968 1st printing. Amazon and abebooks both have it for sale.
  9. I 2nd that emotion. I especially like how it was put - Happy Birthing Day.
  10. I thought the same... til I tried these. At $339 they are steal over buying each waders and boots. I've worn nothing but stockingfoot waders and separate boots for over 14 years. These are just better - watch the video :
  11. Regarding the Simms bootfoots rfd - they are done ever making them again. So what you thought were sold out were really non-existent. I called them before choosing the Boa bootfoots from LLBean. If I remember right, the best Simms bootfoots were $500.
  12. I use these - waders and boots together. They have a lifetime satisfaction guarantee. LLBean - http://www.llbean.co...oductId=1201789 video - http://www.americana...boot-foot-wader $339 for boots and waders together.... and the best warranty in the business.
  13. http://www.ky3.com/n...0,3166465.story Photo was captured by an outdoor game cam on Sept 9th near Eminence, MO MDC "confirmed" sightings page - http://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/wildlife-sightings/mountain-lions/confirmed-mountain-lion-reports
  14. Color me jealous. Wow. Great pics and trip notes. Wow. I need to go.............
  15. After my call just now inside the dam : ☼ DID you guys know that ALL of the dams on the White River chain are all controlled from TRD ? I didn't know that, until now. ☼ So Beaver, Table Rock, Bull Shoals, and Beaver are all unmanned and remotely controlled from TRD. Also a handful of others... but since they are not trout water I didn't remember the names.
  16. 10:04 and they are running 1 unit = 703.8 That is fishable at night. With a Type 2 sink tip or heavier.
  17. Phil - I tried everything. In fact, if you try either one nothing above is available. But at least you fixed the pic. Thanks!
  18. someone please DELETE THIS POST so I can re-post without using HTML THANKS:-)
  19. I changed the format to HTML. And now I cannot post the pic I saved to my comp. Can anyone else see it ?
  20. Too hard to tell Rick. BUT, given the weather... I would lean toward them shutting it down early in the evenings.
  21. This photo was taken by Darrell Lundberg about 2 months ago right at chute 2. Like right when you off the stairs and start casting right from the #1 spot - boom - snake. It ate a a scuplin and we got a picture of that one too.. I'll see if I can dig that one up. What kind of snake is that ? I am color blind and I can't tell snakes well.
  22. Drove in and saw Darrell guiding out of R/R and Malcolm from Ozark Fly Fishers from STL getting ready to drift boat fish, and he mentioned a lunch at the pavilion at noon... more on that to follow.. with plenty of pics. I got down there around 8:30am or so... parked.. rigged up a double rig of a debarbed straight shank gray sowbug size 14 with shellback and neon orange 8/0 thread AND a straight shank size 18 midge hook barbless weighted sowbug, gray with a little UV flash mixed in... under a small round indicator. It was spitting rain ... so I had to wear my rain jacket but it was only 70 or so .. not too bad. Rain continued all day by the way... sometimes heavy.. but all day - light rain. Whew. Started just immediately above chute 2. Worked my way into the upstream drift side of chute 2 - perfect for anyone casting left-handed. Managed a few fish but was sidelined by a father/son team dredging the chute with just single jigs. We tangled up a few times and then I approached them to assist their learning of a jig/float technique. They received the info quite well and proceeded to the nearest fly shop to try out the tried and true jig/float. BUT - While talking with them in the final moments.. I noticed a very large fish. Too big.. Clown big.. it was probably 10-12lbs.... and I told them both to cast to above the fish to lead it with their jigs... neither of which was really in front of the fish on the drift... and they both gasped as this monster stayed around / swam around / eventually turned and swam down... turned back.. then bailed out completely out of sight. They were shocked a fish of that size was even in this river.. but they both didnt have hats on and only the son had polarized glasses on.. but even without anything this was a big fish and it could have been seen from even the most untrained eye. POINT - wear a hat and polarized glasses and learn to spot fish. I hooked a fish right directly below re-bar that was about 5-6lbs and it eventually straightened my weak choice of hook.. but the tippet didnt give way - the hook opened up. Now is the time to sight fish to big fish. And to be very courteous to others around you. I plan to fish 5x mono tippet from now on when it is ultra cloudy / rainy out. Next time the dropper fly will be a size 16 barbless Dai-Ichi 1190 straight shank midge hook with a sowbug pattern and I will land it - like I should have done this time. To me, in the end - the numbers of fish do not matter. Perfecting your presentation matters.
  23. is that the same fly as the white baby blanket yarn fly ? hmmm....
  24. Good on ya! Where was you fishing at ?
