  1. I like it! Very nice look.. quite rustic. The numerous pics up top really really make you feel like you've been there... wait - I have been there! Looks great Phil. - Brian
  2. I agree with Michael... this has been a very civil debate between everyone. Nice to see. I am going to call Bucky or Quinten and ask them point blank if it is legal or illegal. If illegal.. I'll gladly never fish the coffee bean beetle again. Funny thing.. all the Japanese beetles I see latley are all mating pairs in the bushes on the banks.. very few singles flying around or even making it in the water. Come mid-August the whole shabang will be tailing off and over. I haven't been fishing my coffee bean beetles since they break up pretty bad if you make an errant cast.I've just stuck with foam. In fact, yellow foam with a peacock body. On a Tiemco 2499SPBL. Brian
  3. If I remember correctly, you can go to an auto parts store (like O'Rileys) and ask for Corvette fiberglass repair kit. That'll have instructions on how to do a do-it-yourself patch up. Good luck - Brian
  4. Can anyone offer up some advice on where to wade fish on the James ? I am looking for park and walk in access. ( not floating ) Thanks very kindly, Brian
  5. Beetles and ants are still a hot ticket for dry fly fishing on Taney. The Japanese beetles should be this thick thru Sept. Has anyone given this a try lately ? cheers, Brian
  6. I would be glad to help out. Just set up a date and lets get the word out! Thanks for the howdy Dano. You been fishing lately ? cheers, Brian ( CCI I am not... but dadgone close. )
  7. Don - Jenkins Creek.. the one on Bull right ? Above Rim ? If so.. one of my fav spots. I used to use a yellow cataraft up there a bunch. I would put in at Donnie Wallace's place. Big fun up at Jenkins creek. Lotsa dry action. I hope the " 2 weeks " doesnt turn into 2-3 years on the Norfork work. UGH! cheers, Brian
  8. Are there any links about this out on the internet Don ? I would be interested to see an artists rendering of the finished construction. cheers, Brian
  9. My biggest is a 64 incher! ( well, I guess that was 8 eight inch fish put together... so what! ) cheers, tight lines and screaming reels - Brian
  10. ANY place that grinds up coffee will give you a bean or 50. You do have to pick thru them good to find the better ones. Size 14-16-18 hook, thread base and some peacock wrapped up. Super glue is the trick to getting them to stay on. (try Gorilla Super Glue) Add a dot of color to see it better and coat with Sally Hansens Hard As Nails. Pick good beans that aint gonna split on ya! Good to see you on the water too Leonard. Your scuplin looked quite edible. cheers, tight lines and screaming reels - Brian
  11. Tim - great report! See ya there someday this week I hope. Monday would be great! Not too hot finally. cheers, tight lines, and screaming reels - Brian
  12. Why don't we (Ozark Anglers forum members) hold a casting class at the dam ? Anyone keen on the idea ? cheers, tight lines and screaming reels - Brian
  13. Long time no write - so here goes : If you havent noticed, Japanese beetles have invaded the upper end by the gazillions! A standard foam beetle will do the trick - or you can try the coffee bean beetle. Aside from fishing beetles, Jassids and other leaf type beetle patterns are working well too. Not to mention hoppers, crickets, ANTS and even cicada patterns are doing well. Try a 9ft 5X leader with 2 foot of 6X added. Size 14-16-18 Foam black beetle. * Splat * the bug down in front of risers and even wiggle it a little to get attention. Have fun - try something new - terrestrial flies on Taneycomo sure do work! ( plenty of over 20inch fish would agree.. they hate to agree.. but they will ) Cheers, tight lines and screaming reels - Brian Shaffer

  18. Sometimes you do catch a fish you want to get a picture with.. and nothing seems more graceful to me than to look at the fish while a friend takes the pitcure. I myself took a photo that is quite cover perfect one time... as he was looking at the fish and the lighting was perfect.... You can photo a fish anyway you like... but to me -- this is the most classical look. When you are by yourself.. I know it is a different story... you might want to lay the rod down and try to catch the tail at the end of the reel seat and get a measurement that way... But jeez.. I see a lot of pictures taken lately that look like tomfoolery. Just a question - what's your favorite way to photo a trout you just caught ? Brian

  20. We as forum members should be able to be civilized enough to know there is a time and a place for foul language. When you put it down on the internet in a forum - it'll stick til it gets found out about. So what's the point to try to sneak it in here. my 02. - Brian
  21. Any other lure shows coming up ? Brian
  22. Tim - do keep us all posted on this rod as the fall approaches... You will get rid of it here //// someone should snatch this one up it is THE night / big water rod perfect for taney If I didnt own too many rods I would jump on it - Brian
  23. Many years ago.. I was on a dock bait fishing with a few rods out when a family showed up. I pulled in all but and kept fishing while they threw in 5 or so rods around me... one manned by a young boy of about 8. His uncle catches this nice rainbow.. a brood stocker fish that rarely shows up around this dock... and he breaks it off at the dock. Not 10 minutes later... the young boy somehow hooks the 3 way swivel that had the fish his uncle caught. He landed it with the biggest smile I have seen in years. Yes.. it was quite a moment. Brian
