  1. Fished yesterday on the flats near the Shangri-La Marina. Caught an even dozen blues on shad chunks, nothing large, mostly all were in the 1 Lb range. Lots, and I mean lots of boat traffic on the lake, but in spite of it the fish were biting.
  2. I was on Grand Lake yesterday, the water lice were unbelievably bad there also. I can't wait until I can retire and fish on relatively quiet weekdays.
  3. What you have listed is pretty much it as far as I know.
  4. That is 10-10-10 I meant to say.
  5. Thom - I have never heard of water crystals, what are they if youy don't mind me asking? Did you add any calcium to your soil? I had an earlier problem with blossom end rot which can be caused by lack of calcium. What brand of water soluble fertilizer are you using? I used Miraclegor earlier this year but switched to Osmocote once the tomatoes started setting. Osmocote is a 01-10-10 slow release.
  6. I did the container thing for tomatoes this year myself, they are really starting to come in now, picked a dozen this morning. I did have a problem with blossom end rot, but they seem to be over that now. Next year I will mix in some lime into the containers before I plant the plants. I'm sold on containers now for tomatoes. Squash and peppers were bad this year. Green beans are doing fine.
  7. Nice fish!
  8. Last weekend I was trolling cranks for crappie and caught half a dozen bass at 16 feet.
  9. Yeah I hve seen alot of shad on the lake also when I have been fishing in the Hickory Creek area. Should be good for future fishing prospects!
  10. Thanks for the info, I may launch at Houseman on Friday just to avoid the crowds expected on Beaver Lake for the fireworks and everything else that is going on at that lake this weekend. I wonder if it would be worthwhile to drag a crawler harness around for walleye..
  11. Thanks for the info guys, I plan on being on the lake Friday AM, I thing I'll try fishing up north near the dam. Rocky Branch is a little far to trailer the boat, but I might change my mind also.
  12. Boating, as far as launching and just wondering if the current is real strong below Houseman, or is more of a slow current.
  13. Thanks for the report Z. Just curious, when they release water does it create much current downstream of Houseman?
  14. Anybody been out after them? Just wondering what the heat wave did to them as far as location and what they are biting on. I would like to get out this weekend and toss some lures around, is the early topwater bite still going? Are they biting at all during the day?
  15. Sorry to hear that, hopefully you will find something better than you had.
  16. Here's a link to the state ponds info - looks like some good stuff - they also have biologists that might give you some help/advice. http://mdc.mo.gov/fish/ponds/
  17. Did you hear her sing? It's not over until you hear the fat lady sing..
  18. Water level is 7 feet above normal pool, clarity is good, I would say about 2 feet of viz. Definitely not chocolate anymore. Up by the dam it's real clear, 10 feet of viz.
  19. Wnet out Friday and trolled in the War Eagle/White river confluence area. Picked up 8 crappie along with a few whites and Spots. Caught several on a Rapala TD7 which I was using in hopes of picking up a walleye, but the crappie seemed to really like it. Also picked up a few on Bandit 300's. Fish seemed to be mostly spawned out females.
  20. I did it many times, sometimes the fishing was really good, sometimes not so good. Some of the lakes have self supporting populations of trout, some of them need to be stocked periodically with fingerlings. General rule of thumb was the further you hike in, the better the fishing is. The fish usually top out in the 14-16 inch range as the only food for them is insects and they can't grow much larger than that on a diet of bugs. If a person had a week or two to spend hiking and fishing, with a little planning and picking the right trail you could fish a different lake every day on the hike.
  21. Did you try using little bream for bait? I went on a guided trip a month ago and the guide used shad and bream, caught fish on both. I have a fitec super spreader cast net that works pretty well for shad (you can buy them at Cabela's). I might have to go out there and try myself.
  22. I used to live in the Seattle area, there is an unbelievable number of hiking trails in the area. Lots of Alpine lakes that are loaded with gullible trout. Only drawback is that to get to those lakes it's usually several miles up a steep hill.
  23. Nice fish RPS!
  24. We were fishing shad and small Bream for bait. Two ounce egg sinker, five foot leader and slow troll up and down the river.
  25. I was up the White on a Striper trip last week, definitely are still Stripers up there. No one was around either, only other boat we saw all day was another striper boat. We wereseveral miles upstream from the 412 bridge, but as I don't know the landmarks in that area I can't be more helpful. Water was up and muddy, but the stripers did not seem to mind.
