  1. Crappie aren't much for making the rod bend, but they sure make up for it in the skillet. mmmmmm...can't wait for those fresh spring crappie fillets.
  2. What should I check on my outboard jet for yearly maintenance so I don't have problems during the season when I use my boat most? I know I need to sharpen my impeller, what does it cost to have this done or can I do it myself easily? Is there anything else that I should check out or have replaced yearly? Just wanting to make sure my boat stays in good working condition since it's my first one and I don't know much about them yet.
  3. I'm off work Dec 21 - Jan 1 and would be able to come down pretty much any of those days. The deer can have a day off I guess so I can go chase them little trouts around at the Springs. Bow season closes January 15 and after that I will probalby be down there every weekend until it closes for March 1.
  4. I've caught a few whites and heard that the wipers run up there in the spring too, but I can't say I have heard of any stripers being caught there.
  5. Ok, I have looked for the date of this little shin dig, but haven't found it. When is this taking place? Maybe my friend and I can make it down there too.

    Season Is Over

Way to go "Big Grin". How come you don't leave those little quotes at the end of each post on this site.
  7. I've read that the only way you can control the gene pool of deer is if they are in a fenced preserve. Wild deer move around too much to effectively be able to change the overall genetics of a deer herd. Also read that you can't judge what a deer will look like in 4 or 5 years by it's first rack. Some bucks can be basket 8 pointers and others can be spikes, but until the actually reach maturity you won't no what there head gear will end up panning out to be.
  8. Slowest days of hunting all year for me. I managed to see one day all weekend long. The place I'm on always has does all over it, except for this weekend. My dad, mom, and step brother each took deer on our farm below or house though Sunday evening within the last 10 minutes of shooting light. They got a nice 8 pointer, a small basket 8, and a doe. I heard a lot of people saying the same thing about the deer just weren't moving very well.
  9. Now that is some high class redneckin' right there!! I need to get me one of them some day. That's awesome.
  10. Depends if I can stick me a big buck before then.
  11. The boy goes to the school that I work at. It's supposedly gross scored 201". It had 23" scorable points. I'd never in my wildest dreams have thought that a buck of this caliber would be taken from this area. Missouri isn't far behind Iowa and all those other big buck states as far as I am concerned. Here's a pic. I blackened his face for privacy reason even though I'm sure I could trust any of you guys on here.
  12. I hunt in Gasconade County for the most part. My girlfriends dad has access to some land down in Wildwood and also some land around St. Clair. Both of those places produce some big bucks. I sometimes go down there with him during the gun season.
  13. Since Monday of this week, the scrapes and rubs have appeared everywhere almost over night. Everytime I got through the woods, there's a bunch more rubs and scrapes in all of the places except for one that we hunt. I haven't checked the one spot out yet. I'm taking some days off work next week to do some all day bow hunting. Hopefully a shooter walks close enough to give me a shot.
  14. I was hunting down at Peck Ranch in Shannon/Carter county last weekend on a managed bow hunt and didn't see squat. The deer have been moving around a lot more lately since the cool spell hit. I'm going to start hunting hard starting next week since it sounds like the bucks are starting to chase. Hopefully Mr. Big will come strolling past me and let me deflate him.

    Acorns?

No white oak acorns at all around here. The pin and red oak tree's have quite a few little acorns for the most part. The deer have been eating the small acorns for a while now.
  16. This is the reason we went to using chains and chain binders. You don't have to worry about the chains giving out on you. Prayers go out to the family and wish them a full recovery.

    Guitar Hero

I'm a Dance Dance Revolution man myself. LOL I can do good with my feet, but suck at Guitar Hero when I have to use my fingers.
  18. When the rut starts kicking in, those bucks will be on the move all day long. The best thing to do is to hunt the whole day. It's tough to do too, unless you have consistent action all day or just sleep half of the time like me.

    Buck Fever

Good luck my friend. I would definitely be shooting at that buck if he comes close enough. He's a dandy!

    Buck Fever

I tried drawing one a big group of turkeys opening morning this year and got busted. They sure do have some good eyes. The boom stick will suit me better for killing them crazy, good tasting birds. On a side note, is that trail cam setup here in Missouri? If so, you might want to get rid of the feeder before you hunt on it since bait is supposed to be gone from the area for atleast 10 days before hunting it.
  21. After the first weekend of December I can go anytime for the most part. By then I am usually about deer hunted out anyhow.
  22. I usually fish it a few times later in the year when archery season is over with. But until then, I'm probably sitting in the tree stand.
  23. We went out that first night and got into the silver carp up at Bonnots Mill on the Osage. The water wasn't that clear and we could only see about two foot, but with those carp jumping out of the water it didn't make a big difference. Last night we went to Bonnots mill again and got into the Bighead carp this time. The jumping silvers weren't nearly as plentiful as the week before. I think it might of had something to do with the full moon.
  24. We went again last night and killed quite a few bighead carp this time. We didn't get any of the jumping silvers. I'm not sure what the difference was this time, other than it was almost full moon out. They weren't jumping out of the water nearly as much as last weekend either. We still had fun though. My buddy brought his girlfriend and she gigged her first fish, a 8-10 pound bighead. She was pretty excited.
  25. Wow! There a quite a few bow hunters on here. I did not realize this. I am just wound up to go hunting right now, but that will subside shortly I am sure. From the middle of October till the start of rifle season I get down to business again big time. Last year I stuck an old doe opening night, will history repeat itself? I sure hope so because their aint much backstrap left in the freezer.
