  1. Is anybody else having an issue with the video buffering and then stopping right after it finishes buffering? I just started having this problem.
  2. Silver Asian carp will do the same thing. The only difference is they can weigh 20-30lbs and do that. Imagine getting knocked upside the head by one of those while sitting in a boat.
  3. We got quite a few buffalo too. We got some silver sucker lookin fish that are called quillback suckers. I looked them up online becuase i wasn't sure exactly what species of sucker we. We had red horse and white suckers too.
  4. I fish micro jigs with a fly rod alot. They usually weigh 1/80oz or lighter so I fish them underneat an indicator on a fly rod all the time. No different than fishing a beadhead under an indicator on a fly rod in my opinion.
  5. I only know of those two becuase that is where we do most of our snagging around. I heard last year though that some monster spooners were caught by McCord's Bend, made me wonder where exactly that spot is.
  6. I would love to go bow fishing for those monsters one of these days. That would be a blast seeing something that big roll up besides you.
  7. Which fish are you talking about? Are you talking about that bighead carp in the picture with the big mouth and the eyes even with its mouth?????? I think we got only smallmouth buffalo, but I did not look very good.
  8. Does anybody have links to some maps of the James River and the names of the holes? The only ones that I know of are Flat Creek and Asher Cane Bottom. I don't know where the other ones are exactly.
  9. I use P-line fluoroclear on my ultralight gear. Either 2lbs or 4lbs test. I love that stuff. It is has good castability, I can cast the little 1/80 oz trout jigs really well with it. I very rarely have a break off with that stuff, even with 2lbs test.
  10. What lures work the best for you guys and how do you locate the schools of fish when you start out? I always go over the opening weekend of snagging season to snag, but after we do that for a while we like to go fish with regular tackle for crappie. Id love to catch some whites though too. They are awfully big down there on the rock from the other places I have caught them.
  11. I used epoxy if I remember correctly. If I get rid of the cork grip, how will I get another one on the rod since I have my guides installed already? Will I have to remove all of my eyelets and rewrap them to replace the cork grip ?
  12. I have to really bite my lip on some of the stuff people do down there. I hate getting tangled up with people, but it happens. A lot of times though they get irate about it and blame everyody else when they were the one with there line 50 yards down the stream. Those kind of people really strike a nerve. I just deal with it though, I like trout fishing way too much.
  13. I built a fly rod a while back and it is a nice Sage blank, but when i build it I did not do a very good job on the reel seat and grip and the reel seat is really loose now. Is there anyway that I can repair the reel seat and grip on this fly rod?
  14. I built my first one with a Sage blank. The local town chiropractor talked with Sage and they donated ten 6wt 9ft fly rod blanks for him to have some of us build rods. It is nice, even though I did not do a perfect job on it. She gets the job done.
  15. If I did not live three hours away, I would love to come down there and meet some of you guys.

    Trout for the table

We always fillet out our trout and deep fry them in Andy's fish batter. It's delicious.
  17. That is the tip I was needing Wayne, thank you. I always cut my marabou a little too short when I am working with it and it makes it really hard for me to get it on the hooks. Do you make a loop around the marabou with the thread before tying it down, or do you skip that step and just tie it straight onto the hook?
  18. Yes, I know what you mean by RUDE people down there. Once March 1st gets here, there will be a whole lot more of them down there too.
  19. No, they arent North Hog Suckers or "hog mollies" as we call them. We only killed one of those. Did not see many of them either for that fact. Phil....we ate a mess of them tonight deep fried in Andy fish batter with some fries and tader tots. We got a lot of people we know that want a mess of fish so they will all get ate. I am sure there are many different ways of eating these fish, but all we ever do is fry them. Just fillet them out, cut out the red meat, and then score them up nice and good and then fry them nice and crispy. They are definetly better if you eat them before freezing them. Fish never taste as good after they have been frozen.
  20. Thanks for the link, I will check that out ASAP and try out some of those tips.
  21. Fished from 1pm to 4pm. Fish bit good on white G-bugs, white thread jigs, white jigs, and a brown globall. Only landed one fish though. They weren't biting very aggresively at all. I hooked a lot of fish that I just "rolled" and then they came off. It was frustrating but the weather was gorgeous and I had a great time. I would of just had to throw them back anyhow I seen the most fish in the long stretch below the pond hole and just above where that big log or w/e goes across the stream before it bend to the right. The bathroom hole had quite a few fish in it also. I only seen one other guy catch a fish while I was down there.
  22. It's the hole besides the handicap fishing area. The first hole you see when you drive down from the lodge is the pond hole, it has little if any current at all.
  23. Four of us went and we got 80 fish. We killed a a bunch of buffalo, drum, common carp, redhorse, one big head carp and one grass carp. We killed a bunch of sucker/carp looking fish too, not sure exactly what they are. We got into schools of the big heads right underneath the bridge. Down river where it is a big shallow riffle, we did the best on the redhorse and buffalo. Seen two nice walleyes while gigging too. Both probably 4-5 lbs. The paddlefish were everywhere above the bridge. They were in big schools and the boat would go right over them and you could see them swimming with there mouths wide open, it was pretty neat. It was a blast and I took a pic of the mess of fish and the two biggest ones we got.
  24. I have a hard time managing the marabou to the correct size and position on the tails of small flies. Any tips you guys have for sliding it into position and tying it down? Also, I always seem to crowd the hook eye on my flies and it makes it really hard to thread the line through. Will my flies not be near as effective though if there is a little bit of gap between the thread and the hook eye? Thanks for any help Seth
  25. I feel people should be grateful that you take the time to post reports. A lot of people don't get a chance to fish these bodies of water as much as the locals and find it nice to get an idea of where to start when they show up to do some fishing. I definetly cram all I can in before I head down to Taneycomo to do some trout fishing since I only do it a few times a year as I live 3.5 hours away. I sure do appreciate everything you do for fishing Phil. Thank you.
