  1. The thickest part of them will be above the 76 bridge and specifically around point 15.
  2. I am taking some kids on a field trip down there Thursday. Looks like they are calling for rain now. I hope it doesn't mess up the day for them. I'm used to fishing in the pouring rain but I prefer them to not have to deal with it.
  3. They have to be released since they are a game fish. I snag A LOT and it is very rare for us to catch anything besides paddlefish. A few shad and the occassional white bass do get in the way when they are running in big schools. It still pales in comparison to the number of fish removed from the waters by folks targetting them though so it doesn't mean anything in the big picture.
  4. I talked to a guy that was snagging around point 15 this morning and he said they accidentally caught several big sow whites. He said his graph was full of shad balls with bigger fish close by. He figured they were whites.
  5. Talked to a guy that was snagging around point 15 this morning. He said they snagged several big sow whites on accident. He marked a lot of shad with bigger fish close by and figured it was whites.
  6. We put in at Coffman Beach. It was the first time I've been there and it was really easy to put in and take out.
  7. Caught them good in 4-8' of water on swimming minnows and slab slayers. Find the shad, find thr crappie. Never caught squat around a dock or a point. Water temps started at 46 and were nearly 50 when we left.
  8. The water was dirty on Saturday but not mud and we still caught them. It wasn't quite as good as the day before but there was also a lot more boat competition too.
  9. Not sure what area they fished, but some guys I know caught some awesome bass this weekend. They said there best five went 20 pounds yesterday and had 14 pounds today. The two biggest yesterday were both flirting with 7 pounds.
  10. I'm going to give the Gravois arm a try tomorrow myself. I've never been there but I figure I'll just go pick a bank with rock and start casting. If that doesn't work I will go graph some brushpiles in 12-15 and fishing them. That pattern usually produces something for me on the Glaize arm. There has been a few recent reports of people catching them up shallow. A buddy hammered them on Friday but another guy went and hit the same spots today and never caught squat so they must be moving around a bit. Another guy said they caught a mess today fishing minnows 18" deep in 4-8' of water.
  11. Fished from 3-dark on Friday in the rain and we managed 25 keeper crappie, 1 nice sow white and a few short crappie. On Saturday, we fished from 10-5 and managed another 25 keeper crappie and probably just as many shorts. The shorts were nearly all 9.5" so they will be keepers next year. Most of the fish came off brush hanging off the bank near steep banks that dropped off to 18-20' deep. Most fish seemed to be 5-10 off the bank 4-8' down. We had a few long poles out with double minnow rigs about 12-15' down that produced a couple extra fish as well. I was excited to snag after marking a lot of spoonbill, but the trash that came down the river Saturday night ruined that for us since I run a jet drive. The motor was clogging up every few minutes and I had to keep cleaning it out so we didn't even get to really try. My buddy had a prop boat and they caught 7 fish today an said most boats had a few fish as well. He managed to catch a small tagged male. MDC said they tagged the fish last week down by the 76 bridge and he caught it 5 miles up the river from there. The extra flow from the rains must of caused a few fish to run up already. It was fun trying to make our way back in last night. The GPS on my graph really came in handy since we were virtually blind due to the pea soup fog. There were several guys that I overheard talking today about how they had no idea where they were and it took them hours to make it back to the ramp after snagging last night.

  13. I had 51-53 on my graphs the past two days from point 15 on up to Walnut Springs. We went out and tried to snag last night, but it was pointless in my jet drive. I couldn't idle for more than a few minutes before I had to stop and clean the trash out of my intake. Really stinks because I've never marked so many paddlefish up the river as I did this year for the opener. My buddy caught a small male with a tag today about 5 miles up from the 76 bridge. MDC told him they tagged that fish a few days ago by the bridge so he moved up quite a bit. I'm sure the extra flow coming down the river made some of them move up.
  14. I'm not sure if it's whites or shad, but my graph is lit up like a Christmas tree with smaller sized fish around point 15. We snagged several shad last night and also seen a few dead ones about a foot long on the surface. We only caught a couple of whites while crappie fishing around point 15, but there were plenty of folks out trolling around. I didn't see the trollers land anything, but I'm guessing they were getting a few as many as there were out there doing it.
  15. It's 52 degrees down by point 15.
  16. I'm headed down to Cape Fair tomorrow morning for the weekend. maybe the rain will deter a lot of the folks from going out to orrow. As long as it doesnt deter the fish bite, bring on the rain!
  17. MDC never messes with the eggs because the anglers clean their own fish and they get dumped back in to the water 99% of the time. Oklahoma has cleaning stations that will clean the fish for you while they keep the eggs to resell. The carp and catfish sure do appreciate all of those eggs laying on the bottom of the river.
  18. I love snagging for paddlefish, but I have to say that you do make a pretty good argument. The thing about the six fat boys drunker than Cooter Brown in a 14' boat made me laugh pretty good because you definitely see plenty of that.
  19. Just curious if anybody has been around Cape Fair this weekend and knows tge water temp. How much do you think the temps will come up by next weekend?
  20. Anybody who wastes a sucker obviously hasn't ate one to know how delicious they are! Scale, fillet, rib, score and deep fry them fresh and you will be hooked! They only reason I rate them slightly behind a walleye or panfish is because of the extra work to scale and score them.
  21. It was hard to keep the goggle eyes off those orange trout worms. I know I caught at least 10. Three were right 8-9" and they are awaiting to be consumed for dinner tonight!
  22. The areas above the riffles are always stocked extra heavy so that's where most of the anglers go. There was a pile of fish just down stream from the anglers in that pic and those were the ones I was catching. There are so many fish in the stream on the opener that you don't have to go fight the other guys in the main holes to catch them. Once the crowds die down a bit and the fish get cleaned out of a lot of the areas, I usually join the crowds and fish the holes above the riffles because they hold so many more fish. I actually fished the bathroom and handicap holes later in the day for a while. They were packed at the buzzer but cleared out pretty quick and were still loaded with fish.
  23. There were a lot of people slipping and sliding in the snow and water. I know I busted my butt at least three times on the bank, but all I got was a snow covered butt. A guy I was fishing with most of the day fell a few times, but just got a wet arm. One of the times he fell was after setting the hook on a really nice trout. He took a step back, which was right on top of a slick rock, fell backwards and caught himself, stood back up only to find out his fish was wrapped up on something. He messed around and managed to get the fish untangled and landed! He said that one was going to taste extra good since it required a lot of work to land lol. The best I saw was one poor guy went down at the end of the handicap hole an the only thing sticking above the water was his head! Another angler rushed over to help him up. After the guy stood up he let out a big "WWOOOOOOO" and then headed back to the truck. If that had been me go under, everybody would have thouight I worked a sailor for a living! I felt bad, but couldn't help but laugh my butt off. I did see some folks walking around with smallmouth on their stringer. I'm really hoping that the MDC guys that were around nailed them since season closed the day before.
  24. The bad roads kept most of the crowds away. For the first 15 minutes, I had an entire area to myself. The closest angler was 40 yards to my left and they were fishing up stream away from me. I fished till 1 and caught 30+ fish. The average size of fish was pretty good. Not many lunkers caught. I only saw two on stringers all day long. With the clouds and the weedy bottoms, it made sight fishing nearly impossible. I imagine there are still quite a few lunkers left. Last night I had baked trout and tonight I'm going to fry up the remainder of the trout and the three nice goggle eye that I also caught. I had to lock the truck is 4wd and go 30mph for an hour in this, but I made it just fine. This was my view 5 minutes before the buzzer went off. My favorite way to eat stocked trout. Butter and season both sides with lemon pepper, put a piece of bacon on top, wrap in foil, bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes and then open foil and broil on the top rack a few more minutes to crisp up the bacon.
  25. just bought mine. Figured I'd get it today instead of tomorrow morning at the trout park and save some time.
