    What's Cooking?

And I loved Easy Rider. She was gone far, far too young. If only that slider would have slid.

    What's Cooking?

I love White Castle. Wish we still had them here. The frozen ones in the grocery store are just as good though, so I guess I can't complain.

    What's Cooking?

JoeD -- it's just not funny. Go to bed. Make a to-do list when you get up and do something positive. It's just getting old.

    thirsty?

Agree. I'm about out of the business of ordering martinis when I'm out. Everybody does them differently and I'm tired of explaining how I want it and half the time I'm talking to somebody that doesn't care. And I'm tired of seeing martini menus with all kinda apple and chocolate and pumpkin spice and what not. But that's just me being grumpy.

    What's Cooking?

We split it and the sweet potato fries too. Still too much food, honestly. I was pleasantly surprised. They've got a good craft beer selection (they just need to educate the help -- I ordered an Imperial Stout and got some kind of IPA). And the wall of old-school pinball machines look like fun. The turnover in that strip center has been something else. That spot was a pretty good Mexican restaurant before it went down. Down at the end is a home cooking kinda place that just isn't very good, but always busy with the blue hair crowd. It's pretty much right off the Sysco truck type fare. That's the third restaurant in that particular spot. Be sure to give me a head's up next time you're in the neighborhood.

    What's Cooking?

I do a light flour dredge, then fry in a skillet like you. Then, pull it out and deglaze the pan with white wine, add lemon juice, toss in the capers and let it reduce for a minute. Finish with a little butter. I think I talked myself into doing that for dinner tonight. ?

Love the lemon/caper thang. May be doing that one night this week.

    What's Cooking?

For Chief: Dang it, iPhone doesn't play well with this forum software. So it's upside down Fixed Dinner tonight, bow tie pasta and mushrooms in an Asiago cheese cream sauce.

    thirsty?

The OZV I mentioned is an old vine from Lodi. Should be OVZ, but it's bassackwards. Good stuff and relatively easy to find. What no Noilly Prat? You're the one that got me to try it. I like it. I see you like a traditional 'wet' martini. I like them a little drier, but it needs the vermouth. They want to pour a little Vermouth in the glass then dump it out. That's a glass of gin, not a martini? A while back I ordered a martini and the waitress asked, 'What kind of vodka do you want?' I said, 'Gin.' ? You gotta explain it to waitresses these days.

I don't ever order dirty, but I'll make them myself sometimes. Friend of mine ordered dirty and this is what she got: Nasty!

    thirsty?

SIO3 -- I love the Marzens too. Bought a mixed six the other day and had an excellent Marzen in it. Forgot what it was though. Dang it. Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest is good. I haven't replied yet because this one is pretty tough for me. I change it up quite a bit over time. These aren't in order so I'm not numbering them: Guinness on tap or from a can with widget Martini -- mixed about 5/1 Bombay gin and Noilly Prat vermouth; and this sounds hoity-toity, but I do want it shaken (not stirred) because I want the little ice chips in there; olive garnish Belhaven Scottish ale -- heavy on the malt and just a wee bit o' hop Bourbon -- Bulleit if I have to name just one. Working on a bottle of Four Roses that's good too. Gin and tonic with lime -- great summer drink ...and if I can break with protocol and exceed 5 Cyclist/Radler/Shandy: Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat & Lemonade 50-50 -- great in the summer Budweiser with a dose of Clamato -- it's the drink that makes you thirsty! Ayinger Oktoberfest Bailey's Irish Creme and coffee (Christmas morning favorite) In the world of wines I like the lighter-bodied, more fruit-forward, less-tannic reds (Pint Noir typically, but OZV Zinfandel is really good) and German-style whites (Reisling, Gurwurtztraminer, if they're NOT too sweet). Chateau St. Michelle (WA) makes good ones.
  17. Wind River Brewery in Pibedale. It was darn good food and beer. Made in into my journal ?

    What's Cooking?

Scoop out the tater, take the innards and mix in some butter and sour cream, load it back in the skin, top it with a little cheese and hit it under the broiler until golden.

    What's Cooking?

It was last Saturday. Attendance was light. Chief Blue Bear, Mitchg and MilletHead came and drank all my whisky. rsvp and Flysmellie came later and started busting stuff up. Johnsfilly brought some mushrooms but JoeD bogarted them all. I had to ask him to leave when he started getting fresh with Ruby. He kept saying, 'But she's 21 in people years!' He mistook this for her having a romantic interest in him: MilletHead had the best costume:

    What's Cooking?

I just spend about a half hour looking through this thread. Skipped most -- did about every 5 pages, because there is a ton of material here. What a lot of really great stuff here. I wish we had a retiree or somebody with a lot of time on their hands who could go through and index it.
