  1. Yeah, I’ve seen them. They’re better than the porous ones but the eye socket is butt ugly.
  2. But they’re butt ugly...
  3. Not familiar with Durham’s. I haven’t used the soft foam bodies out there and probably won’t. They’re ugly.

    What's Cooking?

Busy schedule, cooking for one, tough conditions. Gotta eat something and be out the door in 45 minutes. Stick with me here...it sounds like nothing, but there are a few little things make this way good. Preheat oven to 450...Pull hamburger patty out of fridge and season generously with Montreal steak seasoning...heat cast iron skillet over medium heat...lightly butter a Roma Bakery hamburger bun and toast in skillet as it heats...when skillet is hot hot toss in the burger and fry on both sides until just before the smoke detector goes off...pop in oven to finish...when the temp hits about 150 slather on your favorite sweet BBQ sauce and return to oven...let that carmelize and cook to 160 and not a degree more...put on bun and eat. One skillet, one plate, what I think is a delicious burger.

How long did you do the veggies? All at 180 right?
  6. Yeah, I think even plain epoxy sounds messy and hard to sand. Was trying to avoid that, and figure the epoxy coating will be pretty durable, so the slot filler doesn’t need to be too tough. I used spackle once and it was fine. Don’t remember it shrinking, but that’s been a few years back. Anybody got thoughts on my weird glue drying situation?
  7. Man, I’ve got a job and a pretty full calendar. I’ll whittle when I retire 😄 I know, I know. I want to produce a peck of pretty poppers though.
  8. Yeah, building it up makes sense. I actually thought I was doing that, but this stuff really shrinks. I think I'm gonna pitch it.
  9. Couple things I’ve been wondering about on these poppers. I used Zap-a-Gap to secure the hooks in the slots on the pencil poppers and regular poppers. For whatever reason the glue in the regular poppers just wouldn’t set up. I wiggled them, and let them sit some more thinking I just needed to break a bubble or something. Finally, after several tries and a couple hours I just popped those poppers in a 170 degree oven just to see what would happen. After about 10 minutes they were rock solid but glue had oozed out requiring clean up. Any ideas what the heck was going on? Why one set dried fine and the other not is a mystery. Another thing: I used the Waspi Perfect Poppers, which are made of a hard foam. In the past, I used Zap-a-Gap to fill the slot, but these slots were pretty deep (deeper than I remember) and I wanted the slots to look good, so I read up and decided to use Elmer's Wood Filler. Well, it was easy to work with but when it dried is shrunk up into the slot, so I had to add it a couple more times. By the third application, it was such a thin layer that it didn't want to stick. They ended up ok, but not as clean as I wanted. So -- anybody got a better solution?

What a crazy spring! Haven’t even had my stuff out of the basement for any hardening off. Snow over the weekend, record low last night.
  11. Ok. Will do for the next swap. 😄
  12. Oh, I don’t think so. I’m sitting on a pile of sweet looking flies and you’ll just have to drool over the pictures. But, maybe you’re just the type to drool over pictures in lieu of the real thing. Lawdy knows there’s a whole industry devoted to you types 😄
  13. Yeah, I saw that. Been very happy with Devcon, and realize old may not be best. Got some on order and I think I will see if it works better before I change.
  14. My gawd, you sure do post a lot in this thread for a guy who thinks this is all stoopid 😄
  15. Well, my stuff has been epoxied and they’re ready for the finishing touches. I’ve used Devcon 30 minute epoxy with good results in the past, and I had some on hand and used it this time. Probably 2-3 years old. Man, I fought that stuff all the way. Very thick and the working time was short, only allowing about 3 poppers before it was noticeably hard to work with. I soldiered through, but I may need to rethink things for the next round. Any thoughts?

And, that walleye looks perfectly cooked! Light breading, Golden Brown, not greasy. Why is golden brown capitalized there and not here?

I really like to possibilities of the droid mushroom powder. Gonna read up on that. Okay, I’m letting the autocorrect stand. You get the point.

    What's Cooking?

It’s been a long time since I did a belly-busting breakfast. French toast made from an excellent take-and-bake Italian loaf, sliced thick and cooked slowly in butter. With real maple syrup, grade b, some bacon and scrambled eggs.

    What's Cooking?

I’ll just say this was delicious. Done in less than an hour and very satisfying. Got enough left over for breakfast too 😄

Who doesn’t love peas? Tonight’s delicacy: split pea with ham soup. It’s a real looker too!
  21. They're in the paint shop right now.
  22. New rule: no COD
  23. I nominate this as the stupidest post of the day. Dang it!
  24. Wait — you can send stuff without paying postage?? I want that

First thing is to test the soil and see if it even needs adjustment. Extension service will do them, or you could try to track down a testing kit and do it your self. There are published guidelines for adjusting pH levels.
