  1. I think it's fallen out of favor with a lot of folks because it's just not as good as used to be. I haven't fished in years.

    I Made Pastrami

I'm impressed! That looks and sounds really good.
  3. Thanks, Al. That's really interesting stuff. I wasn't aware of Photoshop being used in those ways. Interesting how you're combining elements from different media too. Never heard of that.
  4. Al -- a while back you told us you used Photoshop to do some of your paintings. I find that really interesting because I always thought of it as a photo editing software only. Plus, it seems like a largely different skill set. When you do pictures like the one above, or catalog covers how are you doing those? What determines which way you go?
  5. Verrrry nice, Al.
  6. This thread has gone down the path of no return. Not only am I done posting pictures of puppies, I'm not even going to read anymore. Have fun.
  7. Sounds good. I haven't been dove hunting in years -- maybe it's time.
  8. But -- nice haul there. How do you cook those, BH?
  9. OMG -- you're gonna get blood on the Yeti!!!
  10. Huh? I thought you said.... Anyway -- she did get it.
  11. LOL -- a filibuster. Now it's time for a little story. My family and I went to Washington and visited the capitol in the early 2000's. We went into the visitor's gallery in both the House and the Senate. In the Senate, Robert Byrd was standing at the podium reading from a history book. It was some delay tactic -- I've forgotten what the debate was really about. (The last time I was there, in the mid-1980's, Sen. Byrd was at the podium too.) Over in the House, we watched a debate about Medicare (IIRC). A female representative took the podium and began a loud, angry presentation attacking the other side's view. As she talked, she pounded her finger on the charts she had displayed for effect. She was pissed. It was only for a couple minutes, then she finished, grabbed her charts and walked off. After she left the podium, and presumably got out of camera range, her demeanor immediately changed. A big smile came across her face and she greeted other members with smiles, handshakes and hugs as she went up the aisle. My daughter, who was about 10 at the time, couldn't understand this. She looked at me and asked, 'How can she be so mad at these people one minute, then be friends with them the next?' Man, that was a moment I'll never forget. A ten year old was able to see first hand what a lot of these people are like.
  12. You are correct, sir. I've got a picture around here someplace.
  13. Naw, she's a Brittany -- but you were close. They look a lot alike as pups, and most folks are used to the orange and white Brits.
  14. Ness-trodamus predicts: 1) No permanent damage from the shut down; 2) No default on the debt; 3) Obamacare lives on; 4) Most of these dipsh*ts will be reelected; 5) No significant change in the workings of the government; 6) Chiefs go 10 and 6

    Who's Reading What?

I had the same thoughts, and started a 'read the Bible in a year program' the first of this year. But, I kinda ran out of gas. It only works out to a few pages a day (maybe 5-10), so it's certainly doable. I need to get back to it. I did an audio version of Atlas Shrugged a few years back. It just seemed like something I should read, and I sure wasn't going to plow through that monster of a book. I did it driving back and forth to work for a month or two and got through it. But, even that was a struggle for me. Didn't really care for the format or the story. But, maybe that's a good way to test the waters on some of the old classics.

    Who's Reading What?

I'd like to work some of the classics in at some point, but I'm pretty impatient and don't like to get bogged down in difficult, old school language. Was RC like that? Hemingway? I had to read Moby Dick in junior high, and hated it. Bad. You can sure ruin a book for a 13 year old when you force them to find all the hidden meaning instead of just enjoying the story. Here: let me save you the trouble: (Spoiler alert: the whale is the devil) I actually have been thinking trying that one again though. If anyone wants the Shackleton book, I'll mail it to you no charge. It's an old, yellowed paperback I got off Amazon -- not 'bookshelf' material.
  19. I got a new puppy!

    Who's Reading What?

Wrapped up "Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage" about an Antarctic expedition that was stranded for nearly two years. Incredible, incredible story. Just started "This Town", the book Al was talking about in another thread, about the inner workings of Washington politicians, lobbyists, staffers and the press. Looks like it will be a pretty good read. It kinda confirms some things we all suspect go on, but adds a lot of details, names and describes personalities. It's written in a pretty casual/humorous style that helps you stomach the sad reality of the way it works there. The author seems to be an equal opportunity fun-poker -- everybody get's it.
  21. I'm not ready to switch yet. I like it in a lot of other ways. My work, home and phone calendars, reminders, mail and contacts all seamlessly sync. I waited a looong time to have that work easily. Probably wouldn't change just because of that, regardless of what anyone says about their method. I'm pretty sure they'll fix the issues. They can't afford to PO customers with all the other offerings out there.
  22. I even happens when I'm not on the merry-go-round. So it must be real. (Google "iOS 7 makes me sick")
  23. Nobody else getting the vertigo from it? That's the real crappy part for me. Weird. CWF -- don't do it! I wish I hadn't. I can't think of a single thing that's better for me, the way I use it. I've been thinking about an iPad -- I sure won't do it until this stuff gets resolved now. I saw one article where the person said the iPad vertigo thing was even worse.
  24. Yeah, I've got the parallax thing turned off. I think it's the zooming stuff that bothers most folks, me included. I did find a place to bold fonts and increase contrast and that helps in some places. The enlarge text thing was a joke -- in the apps where it worked the text would spill over the edges. Yeah -- forgot about the battery drain. I've got the automatic updates turned off now too. I can accept a learning curve, but reserve the right to grumble if it's not as good as before. Can't do car sick though.
