And it looks like it will indeed be the Cotton Bowl. Back to the Big 12 for a game, ya'll. Short of winning yesterday, this is the most exciting outcome for me.
-
I agree it was pretty inexcusable, especially given that this has been one of the best defenses in the SEC all year. Luckily we will have awhile to prepare and probably won't be playing a triple option team. Of course Pinkel's job is beyond secure, but he may not get as many phone calls from other schools in need of a coach after that defensive performance..............Texas already has a coach that can give up 4-500 rushing yards, so no need to bring in Pinkel as some (maybe just me?) have feared would happen if Mack Brown is gone.
-
It will now be the Capital One or Cotton for Mizzou (LSU has already taken what would have been my least favorite option in the Outback Bowl), and the opponent will almost certainly be Wisconsin (Capital One) or Oklahoma State (Cotton.) Once we've recovered from the disappointment last night, either game should be seen as a great opportunity for Mizzou to play a quality team on a big stage. Yeah, it hurts, but we'll still have a chance to get to 12 wins against a really, really good team. Hard to ask for more than that. Feels almost like a repeat of 2007, we can only hope the bowl goes the same way.

Good thing Steckel coached well over the course of the season. Because in almost any other circumstance, giving up 500 rushing yards in a conference championship game is grounds to be immediately fired. Unbelievable. They'll learn their bowl fate in a couple hours. Cotton (Big 12 opponent) or Capital/Outback (Big Ten opponent). I think the smart money is on the Cotton Bowl and Oklahoma State, but we'll see.

Forced a punt there. Every time that happens, it feels like a huge victory. Hopefully the second half will show that adjustments have been made.
-
Good stop there for Mizzou. The defense couldn't have played worse in the first half, but barring a turnover it will still be anyone's ballgame at halftime. Eight points is far from an insurmountable deficit. MIZ!
-
Well that is one way to do it! First to 50 wins?
-
Missouri can't stop Auburn. Gonna have to either make haltime adjustments or score major points. Got to get into halftime within a touchdown or so.
-
No one thought Mizzou would have a very good basketball team this year, but I think we all are being proven wrong. UCLA is a really good team and this is a massive win. With UK and UF struggling, Missouri could be competing for an SEC title. Wow. They got punched in the first half and countered with a great second. This may be Haith's best team. Will anyone ever beat the Tigers in Mizzou arena again? Starting to wonder.
-
And now they have settled down. Two point Missouri lead with about 12:00 to go. Fantastic game, if you're not watching I'd encourage it.
-
Mizzou needs to stop turning the ball over. Down 8 heading into the second half. Gonna lose by a lot more than that if they don't settle down.......................

Can't you just see it happening though. I know I come off pessimistic, but that wasn't really the intent. Just saying I don't feel good about the game tomorrow, and even if we lose it's still one heck of a year. It wasn't intended to be an indictment on Pinkel either, who I really have only good things to say about. It's just really, really hard to win the "big one" because it's always against a great team. For whatever reason, in a lot of tries, in two seperate sports, Mizzou has somehow never broken through and gotten to either a BCS bowl or a final four. Being a Mizzou fan is mostly fun, because our teams are usually good-but never great. IT is what it is. But if we do win......well, Northern Illinois just lost. That means we don't have to worry about playing UCF in the Sugar Bowl. It would probably be either Oregon or Baylor, either of which would be beyond awesome to watch.

Missouri plays Auburn tomorrow for the SEC championship, as I'm sure everyone and their brother already knows. It's been a storybook season by all accounts, 11-1, winning a string of games that looked like near certain losses in the preseason. A 5-7 team became a divisional champion. A coach on the hot seat in September is in the national coach of the year conversation in December. I have, of course, enjoyed every second of it. From that double pass from Sasser to Washington at Georgia to shutting down Manziel in Columbia, it has been awesome. But this is still Mizzou. We've had moments like this before, where we are on the edge of doing something great. And then it is Oklahoma 2007 or Norfolk State 2012. Something always ends the run right at the moment when hopes are highest. We are not going to win tomorrow. I want to think otherwise, but deep down, that's a feeling I can't escape. It's not a prediction, based on the evidence of Auburn or Missouri's season this year. This is just the type of game Missouri has never won. I have felt the way I do now about this team a whole bunch of times over the past few years. After all, Missouri has put out a lot of good teams lately in both major sports. There has been a lot to get excited about. But they can never get over the hump. At a certain point, expecting them to do otherwise becomes nothing but a good way to get your heart broken. Tomorrow, I am going in with absolutely zero expectations, knowing that regardless of the outcome this season will have been one of the greatest in school history. Because while many people around the country are picking Mizzou to win (and there are many logical reasons to do so), does any single Missouri fan honestly believe in their heart that it's going to happen? I guess we've seen to many Fifth Downs and missed field goals in the North End Zone. I hope this post makes me look really dumb in about 24 hours.

Yep, it is at 11:30 on CBS. Should get done just in time for the SEC championship. A whole day lost to Mizzou sports......too cold to go fishing anyway, so it's all good:)
-
Yeah, it's not happening. I think they are 50000 point underdogs.
-
Yeah, if Mizzou loses I'm probably done with college football until bowl season. With a win, I become the biggest Duke and MIchigan State fan on earth. Why does our only hope to reach the national championship in football come in the form of two basketball schools? Here's my favorite scenario that is totally going to happen-Mizzou wins, then Duke and MSU both pull the upset in their respective conference title games. Then our national championship? Missouri vs Alabama, and eight straight guaranteed. People think they are getting no SEC teams in the title and instead they'd get two. Part of the plan may require one of the biggest upsets in college football history, but let's not get too far into the details here:)
-
Yep, that is the general idea. Wouldn't worry about the funny looks......chances are you wouldn't be the only one doing it. People do crazy things for trout!
-
Yes, that would sum it up. Clarkson, Brown, and Ross are all great players.....but we are somewhat limited outside of them. They played well tonight, of course. I have no idea what tonight's win means. West Virginia may be sub -.500 again and this may be an afterthought on selection Sunday-or they may be 4th or 5th in the Big 12 and top 50 in the RPI. More likely it's somewhere in between. Either way, it's a lot better than a loss, and winning a game like this has to add some confidence. Now it's on to UCLA. I am pretty confident the Bruins are a really good team, so that one is big. Especially because the SEC is having a bit of a rough time in basketball right now. The Big 12/SEC challenge is not working out all that well for the SEC at the moment.

Don't worry, everything that isn't spring fed will likely be frozen soon anyway. Time to start devising your strategies for breaking ice far enough out to hopefully catch fish without actually putting yourself in danger by going out on it. You would be surprised by just how creative some get. Of course if there is a dock that simplifies matters, but those areas get fished out pretty quick.................... When they're frozen, figuring out how to get a line in the water is half the fun of winter trout fishing on the ponds. I value remote streams and wild trout as much as about anyone, but curiously its something I still enjoy.
-
The Hogs are better than last year, Anderson might finally get it going in year 3 and make the tourney. Should be a couple interesting games between them and Mizzou. UMass #1 in the RPI is hilarious. They are actually a really good, likely tournament team, but somehow I don't think they're #1 in March..................Missouri is #65, right behind # 64 Duke. Penn State and UC Santa Barbara are both ahead of the Blue Devils. The RPI serves mostly as a funny prank in early December.

I get that basically no one could care less about Mizzou hoops right now given the state of the football team. But in addition to the SEC championship game, this is a massive few days for Missouri basketball. We get a (seemingly) much better than expected WVU team tonight at home, then UCLA Saturday morning (on CBS before the championship game so no excuse not to watch it......... Anyway-win these two, and you are probably looking at a national ranking, a solid tournament resume, and a ton of confidence heading into the the last few tests of non-conference play (mainly Illinois and a road game at NC State.) Frankly, these look like two really good opponents, so if we can just win one of these I'll be fairly pleased. I'll go 78-77 in favor of Mizzou tonight against West Virginia, and 85-70 in favor of UCLA on Saturday for my predictions. Any home loss would be breaking a major winning streak for Mizzou, so I don't feel great about picking UCLA. But they just look better early on. And with the SEC championship a few hours later, those who live far away won't want to travel to the game, so we can probably expect a half-empty arena. Normally we'd pack the house for UCLA, so the Bruins are catching a major break here. Hopefully we'll get a decent crowd tonight though.....no excuses for this one. I plan to be there, though sadly I'm gonna have to miss the big one against UCLA.
-
Wouldn't worry too much. Don't think Ole Miss our Tennessee will be in the running for a playoff spot anytime soon, so Archie shouldn't have anything to worry about:)
-
I don't know, I guess I just think the selection committee can't be worse than the "ratings and ticket sales mean everything" system that we currently have in place. We'll see if it solves anything soon enough, though.

I'd love to play Oklahoma State if we both win our conference titles. That would be one heck of a game with two great offenses. Let UCF and Northern Illinois play each other in the Fiesta. But I'm dreaming, of course. bowl tie-ins wouldn't ever allow it and the smaller conferences wouldn't like it. The best chance at a really good bowl opponent, is, unfortunately, to lose the SEC title game. That brings into play Baylor/Texas/Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl or Wisconsin/Michigan State in the Outback or Cap. 1. All of those teams are really good and I'd love to see Mizzou play them. But that said, I'd rather have the conference title and a lesser bowl game in the Sugar. A weird year where the Capital One and Outback Bowl are likely to be bigger games than the Sugar and Fiesta.
