  1. There are some holdover trout in the Ruby for sure. The White Ribbon Area won't have many, but the Red Ribbon Area should have plenty of trout in it right now, most of which will be brown trout, but some rainbows. It's a pretty stream, I'd give the Red Ribbon a try.
  2. Are there any trout in the mill pond itself? Just curious.
  3. Sorry again FW. Sounds like I misread your comment. I think I just need to shut up about all things argumentative for a while on this forum.
  4. I may have read the comment the wrong way. Reading it again, it could have been meant in a completely harmless way, and I really hope that is the case. If so, sorry about the misunderstanding fishinwrench, it would be my fault.
  5. If this comment means what I think it does (and I hope it doesn't) it is venemous and completely uncalled for. Absolutely inexcusable, you just can't do that o a public forum or anywhere else for that matter fishinwrench. Wow, that is a new kind of low. Good job to the kid, that's all I have to say. It's a great idea.
  6. I have always wndered why people think they have to have a boat to be successful at the White River during generation. I was down there a while back and had some good success bank fishing at White Hole when all eight generators were pulling. I wasn't able to actually wade, but fishing off the bank did well enough. Off course I wasn't fly fishing, so that could change things. I was told on fishing reports on the internet that no one was doing much good off the bank, but I decided to try it anyway, and I didn't have any problems pulling some decent trout out.
  7. One time I saw a guy fishing a hand line off Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock. They got pretty mad at him, but they told him if he left right away they wouldn't fine him.
  8. No, I have never heard of heated eyes, but there is a way around it, especially if you're fishing in a spring creek or tailwater that is well above freezing in the winter. Dip your rod eyes into the water for a few seconds, it will keep them unfrozen for a while. This is counterproductive if it is really cold (below 10 degrees) because it keeps you pole more wet, and more likely to freeze. But if it is between freezing, and about 15 degrees, it works quite well.
  9. Sounds like a fun trip. Great pics.
  10. I am planning on heading down to the park on the weekend sometime in late March. Should I expect a lot of crowds carrying over from opening day? I know it's always kinda crowded on the weekends, but will it be too bad?
  11. Yeah, Livingston is great. I also like West Yellowstone, right on the Madison, also near the Gibbon, Firehole, and other park waters.
  12. Cool. I just don't think I'm brave enough for opening day at Bennett Spring. I did some trout fishing today in a private lake that is stocked with some rainbows each November, and caught seven of them, and that was fine with me. But I understand there is a lot of tradition with opening day, so I tip my hat to anyone brave enough to go
  13. That's an amazing idea. It would allow such waters as Mark Twain, Thomas Hill, and the Missouri River to be covered. But only if you want to. This is already the best forum by far I am a member of.
  14. I'm just curious because I have never been. Do any good fish get caught on opening day, or is it just too crazy?
  15. Good picks. I really like the Adirondacks, my favorite trout river of all time is there, the headwaters of the North Boquet River. So many brookies. Most people that go to the Adirondacks fish the West Branch of the Ausable, it is a pretty good trout stream, but it is most certainly overrated. The lower Saranac is also a lot of fun for smallies and pike. I don't fly fish much, but I did catch a northern out of the Saranac on a woolly bugger while smallie fishing, and man was that fun.
  16. I still have yet to catch an Ozark brookie. I've caught a lot of them out in Colorado, but never here in the Ozarks. I hooked and lost one brook trout at the White Hole access seven miles below Bull Shoals one time, and I have also caught a cutthroat out of the White, but never a brookie.
  17. I wish I lived Cotter, Arkansas. The trout capital of America.
  18. I'm gonna say 1. Yellowstone River around Livingston, rainbow, brown trout 2. White River, Bull Shoals Tailwater, rainbow, brown, cutthroat, and brook trout. 3. North Umpqua River, Oregon trout, steelhead, salmon 4. Colorado River below Glen Canyon Dam- Rainbow Trout 5. Green River, Flaming Gorge Tailwater, Rainbow, Brown Trout I just realized I picked five instead of three. I need to go back to school for a while
  19. I certainly plan on doing that as soon as I scrape up enough money...
  20. Don't ask me. I've fished for trout for years, and I almost always catch them, but I really catch them big. My current record is a three pound bull trout from a creek in Montana, man did he fight. Caught him on a woolly bugger with a spinner attached, he was of course released, because they are endangered. But I've never caught any seriously big trout.
  21. Great report. I gotta get to the Eleven Point. A river that beautiful and with a pretty decent trout population, you can't beat that. I think people who don't live in Missouri would be shocked to know there are places like it.
  22. I bet the MDC doesn't respond to these accusations because they are clearly not worth responding to. No evidence whatsoever, as far as I can tell. If I was the MDC, I probably wouldn't bother to publicly respond to someone accusing me with no evidence. It wouldn't be worth the time of day.
  23. I am not nieve, and believe me I have no secret agenda, but I don't believe a word of these accusations. I have seen no proof or even the slightest grain of evidence, and I live in a country where one is innocent until proven guilty. I have to admit that I have only had personal conversation with a few MDC agents, but they all seem to know what they are talking about, and more importantly they all seemed like honest fellows who really care about the fish and wildlife of Missouri. Just so you know redbird, there are MDC agents on this forum, and I'm sure they don't much appreciate you hurling insults upon them. You seem like a guy that just doesn't like the government in general, and that's ok, but it doesn't give you the right to make unsubstatiated accusations. Personally, I'm not a guy that either goes in liking the gov, or disliking it. If they do a good job, and I feel they are doing what they are supposed to be doing, I admire them. I feel the MDC falls into this category. I have even had email conversations with some of the "big whigs" regarding management issues, the Trout Park Zone issue being one of them, and they answered my question thoughtfully and respectfully. Missouri has great Conservation Agents, and great hunting and fishing, and the Missouri Department of Conservation does a great job. I thank all the good agents Missouri has, that are so responsible for the quality of the Missouri outdoors, and with that I rest my case.
