  1. My friend woke me up this morning to tell me about his fishing trip to Springfield lake yesterday evening (3/13/13). The lake was about a foot high. That puts it up in the weeds on the bank. He was catching bass on a spinner bait, waking it over the top of the weeds, in no more that 3ft of water. Most came in 8-10”. Now the thought had crossed my mind that he was feeding me a fish story. But I don’t think so. Because he cut the conversation short so that he could get to basspro when they opened, to buy some more spinner baits. He tells me his trip ended when he lost the one that they were biting on.
  2. I do not think that table rock turns over. I think the thermal cline goes away, but the lake doesn’t turn over. I fish what I will call mid lake. From cow creek to a little pass point 9(Baxter on the White and Ants creek on the James) the fish that I am finding are still in a summer time pattern. A summer time pattern for me is mid depth. Structure(points, drop offs, bluff ends. ect.) now what I call mid depth is 25ft. To 45ft. Deep. any thing less that 25ft is shallow and deeper that 50ft is deep. A fall time pattern that some people look for is the fish moving up shallow. We might not have that happen this year. Or it may be so brief a period that we miss it.
  3. I hope that they are ready by the 8th of April. So that maybe we can pick some up at the Springfield nature center.
  4. In my quest to learn how to eliminate water. I would like your opinion on railroad cove. http://ozarkanglers.com/tablerock/maps/baxter.jpg As I look at the map it looks like a good place to fish. It has points, deep water, shallow water, flats, and lots of cover. In my way of thinking it should be a good place to fish. But I can not remember ever catching a fish in there. And very rarely see other boats there. Hopefully with your comments I will be able to further my under standing of that elusive yet very important skill of eliminating water.
  5. A good place to start is You Tube. Search for videos on the subject. I have seen one on there by Mike Webb that helps with a lot of the basic stuff.
  6. Go to bass-pro today 3/6/10 and watch Rick Flint talk about crappie, from 10-noon. He and Darrell Jones (speaks next Sunday,3/14/10 from 10-noon) are the crappie kings. Take a note book and take notes. Try to get a seat up front. His seminars move quickly and he give lots of excellent advice. After seeing his seminar last year. And using his advice, crappie are no longer a accident for me when I catch them.
  7. The subject of ethanol in fuel. Has been something that interest me for some time now. As a auto mechanic it has a direct influence on my daily life. I have been searching for a gas station that sells gas, without ethanol. Of all the ones that I have tried and tested. The only one that has consistently test ethanol free(8 times in the last 1 and ½ years). Is the Rapid Roberts at sunshine and 65 in Springfield. And only there 93 octane. As my boat is older, I use gas cans. That way I can drain them after each use. And keep the fuel fresh each time I use it.
  8. Fellows fishing report 11/22/09. Me and my son decided to spend the afternoon fishing. We threw the pole in the back of the car and went to fellows to fish off of the bank. Fished from 1:30 to 4:00. Tried spinner baits, spoons, rattle traps. Had no takers. Switched to a jig to catch 2 keepers and no shorts. We had to drag a watermelon/pepper twin tail grub painfully slow in order to get a bite.
  9. Oh yea, spend most of my time roaming through the archives.
