  1. Turn on the out of office reply and turn off the cell phone. No tower anywhere can beat that. The service at Baptist must be a new thing because I know I wasn't getting any bars last time I was down there about a year ago.
  2. Ya, been a horrible year for me too to get out and do some fishing. I fit a whole 4 hours in this entire year back in April (otherwise rained too much that weekend) and have been cooped up ever since. Oct 8th is on the way though and I got the time off work cleared already - figured I stop buy and tease myself with a solid fishing report from the Current River. Nice to see there's still life out there.
  3. I bought it in the fly shop at the top of Montauk park last year. They were sold along side all the regular flies. I have seen plenty of other insect looking flies with rubber legs attached. I think it's legal and like you said not a soft plastic classification.
  4. Interesting, have a MO Conservation Dept source for that or just a hunch (heard through the grapevine, etc...)? Otherwise I will just double check next time I am down there since I like to play by the rules. It's made of fly material and is single hook so I figured it was good to go but didn't check specifically for that pattern. It was tied on the line from last year, didn't feel like changing it, seemed legit at the time.
  5. I've never ate brown trout before, like you I always release them. I don't even really bother measuring them with much accuracy, just don't want to even handle them that much. Take a look, marvel, release them and reflect. My dad recently kept a nice lookin' one for the taxidermist, although I'm not really into that either, neither is the mrs.
  6. Out and about

  7. I got in the water down at the end of the hatcheries to the right of the bluff in zone two at about 1:30 pm on Friday. I caught 3 nice rainbows: 13", 14" and a 15" in about a hour, one on yellow rubber legged jig and then two on a yellow and black weightless maribou jig with a heavy split shot to sink it to the bottom. There were several people to each side of me and none of them had much luck. The stream was pretty high and from the view outside the car window I could tell there were some muddy spots in some areas.
  8. You know, when I first read this post, that's exactly what popped into my mind. To me it sounded as someone casually used the word "snagged" as in landed a nice one, versus the MO Dept of Nat Resources definition of snagging to hook a fish on its side or something like that. I personally don't use the terminology but I think I'd have to evaluate the body language of someone if they told me I snagged a fish. If they implied that I caught it illegally I'd probably retort a pretty firm response. Personally, I've only snagged a fish once I think and that was a while ago.
  9. I'll be at Tan Vat on the 9th and in the park on the 10th... I'm not sure about the 11th yet, but I may do a half day and head back. But on the 10th it's a huge group of us. I have the egg patterns ready to go.
  10. I'm going down there in a few weeks. But only after I know if ScudzRule will be there or not. I don't want to be tackled into the river and beaten for showing up with a spin reel and ultra lite rod - even if it is just for catch & release. I'll post my report when I return... but that won't be until mid-October.
  11. Zambonis and false teeth
  12. I'm going down with a large group of folks the second weekend of October. It'll be only my third time to Montauk, and the other two trips were also in the fall. Both years I went with Maribou Jigs and did well throughout the day, but more so the first trip than the second. This year I have a greater diversity of flies and will be throwing Maribous, Clousers, Wolly Buggers and, the often noted, egg pattern (I may also stop at DJ's in St. James and pick up some Rubber Legged Jigs to see if the hype is worthwhile). Also this year, I'm going to get down there way ahead of the rest of the group and spend the first afternoon trying my luck on the Current River below the park doing catch and release. The second day I'm going to join the rest of the group in the park, in Zone 1, with a tag on my hat.
  13. How do you do? I think this is my first post on here too, although I signed up back in January according to my profile. I've lurked on here plenty over the past year and have always found a lot of good info. Between fly fishing and ice hockey I have a couple expensive hobbies.
