I'm going down with a large group of folks the second weekend of October. It'll be only my third time to Montauk, and the other two trips were also in the fall. Both years I went with Maribou Jigs and did well throughout the day, but more so the first trip than the second.
This year I have a greater diversity of flies and will be throwing Maribous, Clousers, Wolly Buggers and, the often noted, egg pattern (I may also stop at DJ's in St. James and pick up some Rubber Legged Jigs to see if the hype is worthwhile).
Also this year, I'm going to get down there way ahead of the rest of the group and spend the first afternoon trying my luck on the Current River below the park doing catch and release. The second day I'm going to join the rest of the group in the park, in Zone 1, with a tag on my hat.
