  1. Without a seat belt I would've had to been dragged out of my truck. I'm really lucky. My Orvis waders and my fishing rods were not. Some how they were thrown out of the truck and my truck landed on them. I don't know how that could have happened being that my windows were rolled up when this all happened. Those people down there in Chadwick are really nice people, there wasn't a car that passed that didn't ask if they could help.
  2. Well my quest for a solo has been put on hold as of today. I was going to hit a small stream this morning in Taney County and do a little fishing before I had to come home and write a lab report. I was driving down 125 just south of Chadwick when I slid off an embankment and flipped my truck over. I came out of it with nothing more than I bad bump on my head and a sore shoulder. But it's safe to say that I will using the money I saved up for a solo for a new truck.
  3. Yeah I'm not going to buy one. I'm going to buy my time and get something that suits my needs. I went to BP today and talked to a guy who said they could order anything from old town but the catch is there will be a considerable price difference. So it's safe to say that I won't be ordering one through them. I'm just going to take my time.
  4. Man that's a lot of stuff. This is why i need a solo so bad, I can only carry two rods, one casting and one baitcasting. The last time I was out I broke my five weight due to my kayak being so small. Really sucked.
  5. Hell man let's take it all the way back to 18th century. That is if I could take my modern fishing tackle with me. I would have loved to fish The James and The White before it was darn.
  6. I just wish I had the time to run to dick's. Maybe after this week I'll take a little road trip, that is of course if my brain doesn't explode before then.
  7. The paddlers guide is a great resource.
  8. The best maps I've come by for any river in Missouri come from A Paddler's Guide To Missouri. Mine cost me 6$ at Borders and is worth ten times that in value to me.
  9. I tried an x-rap for a while with no takers. I did use it in recycled water so maybe that's why I couldn't get anything going on it.
  10. I fished the upper section Sunday and couldn't get anything going on anything except for a bitsy tube in copper craw. All the fish I found were bunched together in a deep pool with light current flowing through it. They were all sitting out in the middle of it and they wanted almost no movement from the bait, they wanted it stuck to the bottom. This, in concert with the fact that a really nice riffle filled with current breaks that was just above the pool was empty, tells me that they are transitioning into their winter pattern. But on another stream that I'll call stream X, the fish were willing to hit anything you threw at them on the same day. I hope that the warmer weather turns them on a little more, especially since I'm going back to the same spot on The Finally this weekend. It should.
  11. Thanks guys, I'm still relatively new to canoes and kayak so this is really helpful info.
  12. Excellent summary. Right on the money.
  13. I've been using the BP brand and there pretty good. I would have to agree with PC on the bitsy tubes they have some really good colors.
  14. BP had a solo on display for awhile a few months ago. I can't remember what it was, I don't think it was a disco but I may be wrong. At the time I was poor, eating ramen so I could afford to put gas in my truck to go fishing. The next time I go there, which will most likely be tomorrow, I'll inquire.
  15. Wow, this is awesome. Pc, how do you rig those sliders? A lot of guys on river smallies love them I've been wanting to try them out. They're just paddle tailed worms right? Jig head? I keep meaning to try a wiggle wart on the river, if if they work well in lakes why wouldn't they work for river smallies.
  16. Why is it that longer canoes track better? Is it because the sheer size of the canoe moving through the water is harder for the friction force of the water to displace? Eric, my major is wildlife bio. and it's really hard to get a job in this field without a masters degree. Plus I love learning about all things biology and ecology related so it's really enjoyable. The part that really sucks are all the auxiliary classes that I guess I will need, physics, trig, calculus, geology, etc.... I guess they're really not all that bad, geology is really interesting, at least the fossil and the plate tectonics part of it is. I think I'll go with the guide, I'm going to call the St. Peters store tomorrow and see if they can ship it to the Columbia store. If that's not an option I'll wait until I have some time and call the St. Peter store and see if they still have it. Thanks guys, you've all been a really big help.
  17. Next time I'm confronted by an angry land owner I'll start conversing with satan. It's a good way to avoid a lot of trouble, like when dealing with the cops or when the girlfriend asks me why I didn't mow the lawn. I think I have problems with land owners because I'm always searching out the most remote and unheard of accesses. This year has been better, only one really bad altercation. Last year I had three or four. Thanks for the advise and the spot. I was going to go out there this weekend but I don't think the rain is going to stop so it looks like another weekend at Table Rock. I miss river fishing and it's only been a couple of weeks without it.
  18. I would definitely throw in some of the classic rubber or silicon skirted jigs with matching trailer. When the fish are really keying in on crayfish nothing beats them. I would also add some jerk baits to the mix, original floater, x-raps, husky jerks. Man, I sound like an ad for rapala.
  19. Yeah, I go to Missouri State home of the worst football team in the country. I need to keep my GPA up because I need a 3.2 to get into grad school. If i didn't want to go to grad school i would be happy with a 2.0. Those people at Dicks in Columbia probably hate me. I bet their thinking, this guy is calling again, this is the fourth time today.
  20. I called the St. Peter store and they had one left. My schedule is crazy right now, forty hours of work,13 hours of school and about 20 hours of study time a week to maintain my gpa. I'll call them again when I know that I have a day to drive there and back. I wonder if they could ship it to me? I'll check it out.
  21. Yeah the 14' is heavy for me. I'm trying to find something that is <45 and is in the 10'to 13' range. One of the things I love about my kayak is how easy it is to transport, so I really don't want something that's hard for me to carry long distances because in some spots I have to carry it a long way to get to the water.
  22. Thanks man, Ive been looking for access to the upper part of Bull Creek. Will I get yelled at by crazy land owners? I always have problems with that I guess because of all my tattoos and my nipple piercings.
  23. I also like mine to stay in contact with the bottom, I just seem to get more bites that way.
