  1. The success of a natural walleye spawn is generally very minimum in comparison with bass. As far as competeing with bass for forage and taking over I don't think you guys have alot to worry about. LOZ stocked a million plus a couple of years and has a great population of eyes but it has not seem to affect the bass population at all.
  2. With as many small ones as there are lately I am thinking of getting the tattle flags. Have you run the 800 series reef runners on them. I kind of figured as hard as they pull it would pull the tattle flag down.
  3. Yeah, you are right, I didn't really think about it that hard. I don't have tattle flags, but do have the snapper releases.
  4. I can't remember exactly but I think the Off shore Tackle boards were like $20.00 a piece....They make specialty rods for planer boards, however, I just use a 7 foot rod with a soft tip and decent backbone. I use fireline on my rods, which kind of makes me use a softer rod to keep from pulling hooks.
  5. good times Predator way to go!
  6. The coves around point 9 hold some large gar...I used to fish for them there with goldfish on balloons and we got some REAL good ones. Best was 32 pounds. I have bowfished them there as well and my best with bow gear was 55 inches (didn't weigh it). Good luck.
  7. Last week I used my planer boards and I was catching fish pretty much every pass on the "outside" lines. In the clear water of Bull Shoals, planer boards rock. I use the Offshore tackle brand, I think they are the 0R12 with the snapper releases so I could use my fireline with no probs'. I was pulling two leadcore rods on the inside and 2 planer board rods on the outside. It works great, we had numerous doubles on and no tangles whatsoever even on tight turns.
  8. Client I went out yesterday. I caught around 40 to 50 total all over but mostly around Lead Hill. The eyes area all over as I caught some in the backs of coves as well as in the open water. Most caught trolling but some were caught on BB and crawler harnesses. Mostly caught in the 20 to 25 foot depths at about 1.8mph.
  9. Ten to One the fish you lost was a Flathead.
  10. Thanks FW.... As far as seeing them on side imaging I dont have a unit yet....and I stress yet, but depending on conditions alot of the eyes seem to lay so close to the bottom that they area very difficult to pick up on any locator. I noticed in BS and TR that alot of times you may not even mark fish and you end up picking up fish anyway. You can find them suspend chasing shad sometimes. I can't remember the figures but mdc stocks a good number of walleye in LOZ. There was a couple of recent years where they stocked a million plus. I kind of fell out of bass fishing and into walleye fishing. Except for incidental catches by the bass guys, it can really be a different fish to learn to catch. LOTS and LOTS of different techniques. On lakes like Lake of the Ozarks there are only a few devoted walleye guys that chase them. The summer is real good for trolling. Speeds around 1.8 to 2.3 generally works good. Bait color depends alot on water clarity. Even if you have a bass boat you can still troll using just a trolling motor......I now fish from a Ranger 620dvs with a 6Hp mercury 4 stroke kicker and though it is ALOT more comfortable, you bass guys out there can still use your boats. Get after 'em
  11. I have never personally trolled spoons. I have a bad habit of sticking to what works for me. Three way rigs, bottom bouncers, leadcore and longline trolling generally work very well on LOZ and other missouri lakes. I will let you know this walleyes on the bottom look completely different than most other echos on the fish finder.......That is if you can see them at all. To target walleyes alone, the Niangua Arm above Larry Gayle is a good place to start.
  12. I do! Caught trolling in mid august. A little over 8 pounds. LOZ has a great population of walleye. Just got to target them and know where and what you are looking for. If found it generally isn't a problem catching a limit. There are only a few die hard walleye guys I know, including myself that fish it. I rank LOZ very high on my list of good walleye destinations. Right now alot of bass guys will be catching them as the eyes are ready to start splurging on just about anything they can eat. Catch some more!!!!! I Love to catch fish with teeth. Jason
  13. The whites are going strong on the Kings above Hwy 86
  14. Don't know for sure about K Dock, but I know one thing, high water plays hell with guys trolling cranks for walleye. With the end of the walleye spawn almost here and them transitioning back into the lake, those fish will likely be in the brush. Hard fishing and lots of lost cranks.
  15. ANybody know what the water clarity and temp is like in the Niangua Arm. Thanks Jason
  16. Phil, Is the CORP saying how high they are going to let the lake get? Hopefully not to high..... Jason
  17. GlennL, You should be nailing it pretty close by the 16th as long as the rain cooperates. With the upcoming warm weather the water temps should get up there pretty quick. Unsure what the water temp is now?
  18. Muddy, current and no whites there yet. Water temp dropped a few degrees in relation to what it was last week. Caught 10 keeper crappie yesterday and a couple of small whites. They were all down by Hickory Hollow though.
  19. FS, Bill was right. make sure you call the agents first to check the lake conditions. Some years I will fish it extensively in the winter, other years it may stay muddy all year. I called about a month ago and it was still muddy. I have done real well on fat rap pearl glass shads when they were surfacing and also the larger model pearl Bomber Fat Free shads, along with large 1/2 to 3/4 ounce road runners with tails also in white. I did get a couple of twelve pounders out of there last year with the assorted 20 inchers and below. If you hit it right it is a blast. This time of year make sure you pack tire chains with you as the ramps can be treacherous. The last time I put in up there it was exactly 1 degree. As long as you are dressed right it really isn't bad.
  20. Powersite would be a good place to start, if I haven't caught eyes there, I've caught real good smallies.
  21. Hot darn someone finally replied. Thanks Elk, do ya have any details. I think I may head up there this weekend. I thought the river would have been running high.
  22. green carp, trash fish, those annoying fish, bass have all sorts of names. If it doesn't have teeth why talk about it. Right PD.
  23. Sam, I never thought alot about it but I agree with you. I use pink and white early on, switch to pink and chartreuse and then during the tail end I use the swimmin minnows with the purple and gray body.
  24. The brown was caught by Rob Caudel on a tube jig, I can't remember the official weight though. I only know this because I bought his ranger from him.
  25. Anyone know if there area any sauger or walleye being caught below clarksville or winfield yet. Thanx
