i forgot to put that up on my post last night...i used small shad also,not for very long though, i kept large whole shad on my big pole,my big pole is an catfish ugly stick with a rhino xl baitcaster with 65 pound braid line tied with a three way swivel with a 7o hook and a 6 ounce bank sinker. my other pole is just a normal ugly stick with a bill dance baitcater i have set up for smaller catfish,also 65 pound braid with a 2 ounce slip sinker rig with a like a 3 o hook.

well,it was awful for me anyway,i didnt see the other couple guy's that were catfishing in there boat catch much either,one of them caught 2 about 6 inche's long. i got there was in the water at 5pm and out of the water at 12pm,i used GIANT whole shad,head's,belly strip's,back strip's,small chunk's,big chunk's.NOTHING. the school's of gar and other's like the carp and spoonbill were so thick you couldnt hardly tell from them swimming into your line or a bite,there were maybe 3 time's i could tell it was an actuall bite. i fished the left side,middle and right side of the flood gate's,including the swifter current. around the island's. down river from the boat ramp around the mudbank. NOTHING. im going to go ahead and blame it on my 7o hook and 6 ouce sinker's and just say there werent any big one's around and the little one's couldnt get the hook in there mouth...lol. looked like the crappie guy's were doing pretty good though,bank was full all day and there was close to the most people i've seen there at night. probly 7 boat's during the day average and 3-4 at night. i had fun though,got to do some relaxing.

ill be out there in a 16ft jon,with little red seat's and a big ugly 40hp.good luck! also,it's ok to snag them carp on the top for fun isnt it?

yeah that's pretty good sized,i caught the 7 pounder on cut bait! that's never happened before and i thought it to be a little odd. you ever do any fishing at the boat ramp around tuscumbia? i know there's some big one's hiding around that drop off around the pillar's by the bridge it's just hard for me to stay put in the boat...current's pretty strong by the bridge.

i cant hardly stand fishing the boat ramp side,lot's o rock's to get snagged on and it drive's me nut's when i have to re tie my rig's.....i did catch some nice drum about 7 pound's on that side downriver a little from the ramp along time ago.

just wanting everyone's input on the spot where they catch there biggest cat's. i've caught and lost some good one's around the log's by the bridge and right in front of the flood gate's on the second spillway closet to the vfw side,nothing over 20 pound's yet at the dam other than a spoonbill on accident last year. i would love to take a afternoon trip to truman atleast once,i havnt lived here that long and heard it is better than bagnell. also i took a trip to the MO river in jeff and fished some of the dike's but i was limited on foot so i cant wait to take the boat out and cover more ground to get into one of them bigun's hiding arond the scour hole's. input on truman and going upriver on the MO in jeff would be nice;) not downriver from the boat ramp,still breakin in my new motor.thanks.

i'll be taking the boat out to try and get on some big cat's tommorow around 4-6 depending on how hot it is and staying till around midnight.probly be fishing the flood gate's until dark then moving closer to the island's depending on how the bite is. so i guess it'll be a catfish report. ill let you guy's know how it went as soon as i get back.

i've had to have seen you one of the time's that i've went to the dam,are you mostly bank fishin or boat. im bout half and half. i was there 2 day's ago i think and there was a boat beside me with 4 guy's in it with no shirt's on,that's all i remember about them. where you one of them? and i have 2 girls and another guy with me on the boat. ill be going friday probly in the afternoon to do so cattin.

i read in this month's conservation mag. that if you actually want to fish for gar just get some nylon string and frey it really good and when they hit there teeth get tangled in the rope...no hook's,pretty nifty.

i have an 86 model 40hp mariner i might trade for a newer 25,i've had it about a month now and taken it out almost 10 time's. the 8'th time i took it out on the river i was running it wide open for about 3 mile's and it just stopped. i pulled on it a couple time's,took a break for about 2 minute's and pulled again and started and ran fine. got home and cleaned one of the hose's and it was plugged so im assuming that was the problem but i have a very small suv that can hardly pull it's own weight up the hill's around the lake let alone with a 200 pound motor on a boat. so i guess im just wanting to take some of the weight off and would like to trade for a smaller newer motor 25 hp. if anyone has any fishfinder's they dont use that would be nice if i could have it or possibly trade something for it.THANKS.

i need someone that know's the lake and where to fish for the big cat's,im a little weary of taking my 16ft jon out on the lake and fishing the black hole's that they set in and would love if someone would take me with them on there next time out,can meet at bagnell dam to get bait and follow to one of the public beach's or somewhere not to far from there to launch,so if you want a fishing buddy im the man.

does anyone fish the old dam that's on the osage near jeff??? im goin there probly tommorow and want some pointer's. it's on lock and dam road a couple mile's from where the osage dump's into the MO,speaking of MO i went to the acess in jeff and fished some of the wing dike's but no luck.bunch of bite's but no luck any pointer's for there???

went to bagnell yesterday afternoon just to do a little crappie and bluegill fishing,the crappie fishing didnt last long for me im more for the cat's but my women like's the little fish so we were on the rocky side right were the little cove is that everyone fish's from bank and there's carp on the top. i snagged 3 finally got 1 of the 3 in and he was ten pound's. anyway a guy was fishing there and no one was catching anything except him so i ask what he's using and he said a minnow about nine foot deep with a slip bobber,he was casting right on the current line most of the time and he had a stringer full of crappie and bass,i wish he would have thrown the bass back but whatever. ill be goin catfishing there in the next 3 day's so ill let you all know how it goes. i was there the day before to try and get bait,there was a couple guy's down there and they were netting a bunch of white bass and few shad but the shad they did get where pretty big.

unfortunatly guy's the motor i was goin to buy off a family member with the money has been sold. so i do not need the money anymore. i would still be willing to trade my 6 horse motor AND my t34 motorguide clamp on trolling motor for atleast a good working 10hp motor or higher.

i have a small 6 horse johnson...i think it's a jonhson ill have to double check and get the year and model but i think it's a mid 80's model and works great asking 200 and would have to be picked up. if interested please send a private message would also trade for larger motor AAAHHHH TO HAVE A 10 HP motor would be great..lol.

i've fished the dam when the flood gate's were open and was pretty close and it was a little scary but i couldnt keep the catfish off my line.

i've found the shad!! went to the dam 2 day's ago and they were all along the wall...WOO.

wanting some fresh shad for my first trip to the MO river in jeff,gonna fish the wing dams and see what happen's. so i was just wondering if any one's seen any shad running the bank at bagnell yet. if not how long or when do they start coming up closer??? i've only lived here for 3 year's now and havnt really kept track of when they where around last year.it drive's me nut's waiting on the shad! so it would help my nerve's alot if some one knew around when they start gettin close. anyone found any mushroom's yet?? i've only found 3 red's and a buddy found a white today.very small.

check out gier's bass pro shop across from mcdonalds in eldon,i just bought a setup for 103 after tax it's a 10 foot daiwa beefstick surfrod and a HUGE rhino xl baitcaster,beautiful combo mostly use it for catfishing...still new to the snagging thing,gonna try it next year. the pole was only 40 dollars and they had cheaper big rods there too,there's also a place at the lake across from one of the minigolf places right next to a payday loan place i think that's what it is.

my g-friends friends dad found 117 red's so that's what im eating NOW. and i've looked but cant find any whites or anything else.

i used about everything in my box jig's,cranks,swim,jerkbait,inline spinner's. nuthing,BUT i went today on highway 17 at the saleen with my g-friends dad and we pulled out between the 2 of us 17 largemouth 2 stripes and 1 cat....all in around 2 hour's so that was a good pick me up from yesterday. and all the bass where averaging about 2 pounds each so that was very nice. another funny thing...i caught them on a tiny pink ice fishing pole that's about a foot and a half long and my lure was a probly 5-6 inch plastic segmented shad crankbait. also went nightfishing for some cat's at the park in tuscumbia last night...which i dont really care for fishing it,dont do very good there to often but i got plenty of bite's last night on my bluegill,nightcrawler and big butt minnow's i had sooo it's now 11 o clock and im gonna be heading out again in about a half hour to give it another shot right after i eat all these awesome mushroom's! hahahahaaaa. NONE FOR YOU!!!

went to bagnell dam yesterday and there was probly 20 people bank fishing on the rocky side,i went down in the little cove where the water's slack to try and catch some bluegill for bait cause i planned on coming back and doing some night fishing but i didnt catch anything and neither did the 10 people i was around.the hour i was there i seen one guy pull out 1 small crappie,i didnt see how the people fishing for the stripe's in the current where doing but i was very dissapointed that i didnt catch anything,we even tryed the other side and nothing,the water was flowing pretty good so i thought i would get something but nuthin!

how close are you allowed to get to the dam? i've lived here for 3 year's now and i mostly fish bagnell dam. thinkin im goin to go up to truman and try some catfishing and maybe a little bass. did you happen to see any bait fish around?

i've also caught alot of fish with growth's on them,mostly catfish though. i brought a bunch home one day and me and my women where cleaning them and im pretty sure there was a tape worm in it if that's even possible,i dont know but it was transparent white and flat,whatever it was it was gross and i wont be eating anymore catfish for a long time. i just like catch and release most of the time anyway...never keep the big one's,just bring a camera with me and take a pic then letum go.
