many of the browns were located about 10 to 15 feet in front of boat docks.....the flashers of a cowbell bring them out from under the docks? i caught the largest close to dark but we caught them throughout the day.... i was almost ready to leave early in hte week...... Curtis was telling us what to try..... the guys on the dock commented about not seeing a cowbell or using same in years. we just had to turn around when we hung up and used 4 pound to the hooks. we just tried to find docks in water at least 7 feet deep .... we hung up too often in shallower water. and we did run out of gas on the lake just floated to Scotty's. i did forget to talk about one nice rainbow caught from lilley's dock.... it weighed in at 6 pounds. the young man caught it about 7 one night. he said that he saw one fish ....threw a lure ... and it nailed it. upstream end. a football taht fed on carcuses?

my wife and i arrived at Lilley's sat May 17. we fished sat from noon to 6 and caught 4 fish. we talked to others at the dock and were told that it was hot a week ago but it was tough fishing now. Sun, monday, were brutal ..... we did not go to trophy area but fished from short creek to roark creek. We even fished at the 2nd bridge in roark creek to not catch a fish in there. we were averaging 4 to 5 fish per day. Most were browns with the wife catching a 17 inch brown. we fished about 7 to hours / day. we tried from dock as well.... it was slow!!!!! tuesday night it all changed. we had caught a few browns during the day with and almost no rainbows. Near dusk, the wife wanted to watch TV ... so i fished from the docks down from trout hollow to cooper creek - on channel side ......i landed browns 16 inch, 2 at 17 inches, and the largest at 18.5 inches..... unbelievable qty in 12 to 14 inch. by wed am, we had caught about 50 to 60 browns and rainbows - less than 10. the rainbows were all orange meat... not one white meat. we tried jigs, jigs under floats, drifting power baits.... our success came with worms. wed - we fished the same areas and we started to catch rainbows and almost 0 browns. drifting worms or behind a cowbell .... we caught lots of fish. at 2:00 the trout release boat came up the river. i had never seen this before. a boat came by and told to get ready for action.... we were between the car bridges and teh railroad bridge. the fish boat went to monkey island and turned around without slowing... after 1/2 hour or so, we noticed that in front of us - trout were jumping... this was close to the shore - north side ----- we could not keep a trout off the lines for the next 2 hours. we smashed barbs for easier release. we caught and released an unbelievable quantity of fish. we tried for browns across from lilley's and did not catch one. thursday --- we fished from monkey island to rr bridge and we caught several.... kept a few for lunch.....we wanted something other than those 10 inchers so we tried other spots with limited luck on browns..... but in hte afternoon we started to catch nice rainbows in the same areas fished before.... the best luck was in the middle of the lack down river from mnkey island ....with the average size being 14 to 16 inches... when we cleaned uot the remainder of the limits we found the majorilty to be orange meat........... by 6:00 that night my wife was tired of catching fish and wanted to go out to eat. a first. we ate at whipper snapper all you can eat lobster...... i ate a couple of fried shrimp and chowed down on lobster. after eating out ..... we had no cabin key.... called Curtis and Phil came with a key.... sorry Phil. the resort looked great.....we had a great time..... slept late several mornings ....... my only complaint..... a leaf blower woke me from nap.. i could sleep good there. the fishoing was slow for a few days.... 18.5 inch brown makes up for a lot.... in the end my wife wanted to eat as she was tired fo catching fish wow!!!!!.....

look at cabellas catalog and search for a cowbell or ford fender......... these are spinners to which you you attach a hook behind and use a worm. i use the cowbell that is 24 inches long. you tro these in areas where there are few logs to keep from loosing them due to costs of the cowbell. i use garcia 5000c and old worm rods to troll with. go down stream with trolling motor to make sure they stay off bottom a 12 to 14 inch smash these or you get a peck peck peck as they eat the worm i first fished these on taneycomo in about 1977 with a guide Milo Holvick spelling? he was a retired dairy farmer that fished out of the dock near the end of main street..... to the campground. he fished a stick steering boat ...... as i do today. my wife and i have caught many many fish dragging a cowbell....... most people stare at the rig it is old school but it does catch fish.

i am not sure that i would consider dragging a chain if there is any currrent at all - then you would not need it if it were not running. habitat??????? safety!!!!!! if the flow is there ..... you drag a chain and should it get hung up on the bottom and the connected end of the boat could go under water quickly sinking the boat. then you are in deep doodoo. depth - the gravel bars can be shallow enough to have ruined many props.... many props. i am not an expert pn kayaks - but i do not believe dragging an anchor to be safe at all. if the water is running very much at all, i will not even anchor my boat. -

hello blue cat......lillie's is the best ...... we like being able to fish, dock the boat, and walk to the cabin. -
we rolled in about noon on Wed. after checking in we fished until about 5:30. we fished drifting power baits, drifting worms, and dragging cowbells with worms. the wide and i caught our limits but this took about 5 hours. all of the trout were 9 to 12 inches. most were pink meat. we fished from falll creek to south of monkey island. we ate all you can eat lobster ... only one place in toewn to do this. lobster was not bad. not a 5 star place but it was fun. i got my money's worth. THursday we fished from about 9 am till a late dinner. we caught 8 rainbows and i caught 1 gernman brown of about 16 inches. we added jigs and jerk baits to the mix this day, we did make a run to the college of the ozarks for biscuit mix and cornmeal. dang good and the wife bought trinkets to help support the kids. Friday we went to silver dollar city. it had been 20 to 30 years since we last went. we had enjoyed the crafts in the past. we arrived at 9 and ate breakfast. rode the train. rode the ride with a theme of convicts in a flooded mine. walked to try to find the crafts .... ate a funnel cake and left. the last time that i was therre Bruce the gunsmith was there ..... there was a shop on the far end that had looms, etc. now it is more like an amusement park centered on rides. We fished that afternoon and caught 8 to 9 fish total. Saturday we fished most of the day and caught about 10 fish total. My wife did catch her first ever brown it was about 16 to 17 inches. fat as can be, we ate at Dana;s pulled pork and onion rings. danged good!!! Sunday AM was cold. we loaded the truck ---- fished across from lilley's and ran to monkey island after it warmed a bit. fished till noon without catching fish. i had never have this happen before ------ then tried to eat at Dana's again but closed on sunday ---ended up at a buffet as we could pull in with the boat. we just went with it .... when it rained we napped. old cabin 2 at lilley's nothing fancy but it does sleep good. i hope it comes out good after the late year remodel. did get to watch a deck get hauled up river to lilley's ready for an addition. the trout under the clean station have grown ---- one was huge! not many boats at any of the docks nor on the water. good time - just hard fishing ...... only 1 person talked of really catching fish .... he was the only one. and most of the fish that we cleaned for the 4 days were pink meated. the wife used about a half spoon fiull of oil and sauteed onions and peppers. added about 5 to 7 fillets. served on tortillas with coleslaw, a one pan dish. good eats. we never fired the grill.. be back in Sep when the fishing is better????? cowbells - who knows what these are? i do carry ford fenders in the baot as well.
-
i am sure that i have eaten worse.... vienna sausages eaten with crackers while catfishing - using stink bait. no fork - just a stick or fingers. or a eating sardines while running a trap line and smelling the coyote lure. the buffet was not prime food - but when we were there, it was good. the really bad crap for me was teh food at the throwed roll. it was gross.

my wife and i stayed at liley's landing and foshed taneycomo thursday, friday, saturday, sunday, monday and came home this AM..... we fished from the dock a few times as it was cold some mornings. berkley power eggs were the rule here. there was no generation .... the only issue was the leaves and debris that would catch up on the lines. we had periods of catching only a couple per hour to one every few minutes. we caught some small sized trout up to about 12 inches long. we fished out of the boat much of the time ....... trohy area ----- we motored to near the tree over the water and used trolling motor to go past this...... jigs and rapalas. threee guide boats came by and they were using jigs and floats. all reported to doing poorly. the trout following the lures to the boat drove us crazy. we left as we were hit with a sleet shower..... we fished the remainder of the time from fall creek to roark creek. we drifted power baits and with worms..... just had to let the wind push us up or down the lake. again smaller trout was the rule. we lost count of the number that we caught. we fished jigs and rapalas along the bluff accross from liley's and in front of the landing. here we caugth larger trout. on Monday we stopped by Scotties for a snack. he suggesterd to go just past the bridges at Branson. when we arrived, there were boats on boats. there must be a fresh stocking????? small trout but they could be caught cast after cast. we even trolled with cowbells and night crawlers. many trout again with one at 16 inches or so. saw marmits, eagles, ferrets, and many wood ducks. took a lot of photos. ran into good people ...... our bat would not start .... dead battery and we had to wait no more than 5 minutes for a good boater to jump start us ...... 5 year old battery and it gave it up????? then curtis at liley's loaned us a battery to keep fishing. we celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary and she still likes to fish - wow what a great wife. food - went to whipper snapper and ate lobsters - all you can eat ..... it was very good. much improved from years ago and they have moved. american cafe with giant rooster out front..... fanytastic salad and soup bar. sadie's sideboard - fair - lunch - we were first in for lunch and they served the left over - partial eaten foods from the day before. wendy's chili - good when you are cold. breakfast buffet ata forgotten named place .... good dana's parking lot was always full so we did not make it here. the wife shopped at the fabric store by the imax theater ...... she left $200 behind --- but she was happy! Petals flowers delivered a beatiful flower arrangement just as ordered for the wife on the way home - we stopped at the throwed roll ....... we had eaten there many time before .... good enough to return. today it sucked!!!!!! the grease in the chicken gizzards --- i squeezed out the oil on papaer towels. in front of the waitress i poured pout about 2 to 3 teaspoons of oil. her only response was to ask if i wanted more water???? att eh register, the wife asked for a manger who gave my meal free. we had a great time. just had to brag. there we grilled fish and burgers.....
