River levels are starting to go down and clear up, lake reports from blue mesa have been good with nice lake trout being caught and rainbows as well, silver jack is still brown and not fishing that well nice brookies have been caught out of rowdy lake in the last week, and moose are in the area,I seen a nice young bull and cow moose just passed rowdy lakes entrance on monday, Owl creek pass is open and if staying the night in the area expect warm days with 30's at night last night was 35 F at 7100ft little cimarron road has had a slide about 2miles from the end so the best fishing holes up that way are blocked and open to foot traffic only untill the road is repaired gunnision river is fishing well , some very nice trophy sized fish being caught and released below the dam in the black canyon national park area, recently all four flood gates were open on morrow point dam and river levels are still very high and unstable and are changing rapidly making fishing difficult since high water has been a issue now for about a month fishing has been light so expect a jump in reports in the weeks to come

I am located in on the western slope in Cimarron CO. it is in Montrose county near the Gunnison county line there are several rivers near me so I'll start with the nearest first River: Distance: Notes: Little Cimarron river My Back Yard Access limited, challenging but rewarding fishing Big Cimarron River 6/10 mile Good access from-9000ft to 6500ft (5 Min to 30 min pending on where you go) Crystal reservoir 3 miles below Morrow point Dam (10 min or less drive) Gunnison River(PIne Creek) 15 miles Access at Pine Creek (below blue mesa dam) (15 Min drive + hike) Black canyon/Gunnison River 19 miles G Gold Medal Waters (Below Crystal Dam) (25 Min Drive)steep curvy road, national park Uncompahgre River 25+ miles Check Maps for access(limited due to private property) (25 Min drive to hour pending on where you go) Gunnison river (above 149 bridge 30+/- miles ending at Blue mesa reservoir going up into Gunnison (25 Min drive to hour Pending on where you go) Blue mesa has several feeder creeks that I did not list above they provide great fishing for both spin and fly fisherman There are many more rivers within a hour and half of us with good fishing along the way on some more back country roads ,there is also lots of lakes withing this area that provide great dry fly fishing and streaming there is not enough room to list all the lakes but I can list a few better ones if interested

went to Blue Mesa lake last night,Fish are hitting on the surface just before dark, water levels are looking better since they have raised the lake last report on tuesday was that the lake was at 73% full, but be careful of debris along the banks, they are flushing the canyon below blue mesa so fishing is out of the question in the black canyon of the gunnison for the moment

This is what hides in the cimarron valley if you are willing to earn it And I do regret keeping them but sometimes you just have to bring home some fish when you have a day like this

The FORKS OF THE CIMARRON RIVER INCLUDE -EAST-MIDDLE-WEST :If you enjoy chasing wild fish in small rivers, this is your place to do it. At a elevation of 9600 feet all three rivers have a high alpine setting to capture your heart. In these forks you will find an abundance of pocket water, riffles and small pools.the hatches can be great throughout the summer. This is the dry fly fisherman's dream. My Recommended Gear: shorter 2 or 3 weight rods Big Cimarron: Beginning below Silver jack reservoir this river offers several miles of uninterrupted and remote opportunities. although this is Technically a tail-water, it doesn't fish like one.shallow dry/dropper rigs can work best during low flows but when fishing the deeper pools or in higher flows, dead drifting a nymph will produce bigger and better quality fish. Be prepared for casting in tight quarters, there is lots of vegetation and access is limited along the river, this river is for the one who wants to earn it. My Recommended Gear: longer 3 to 4 weight rods These rivers can be accessed within min's of our location and if staying with us you'll have access to 1/2 mile of private water

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/co/nwis/uv?site_no=09126000 here is the first link to water flows on the Cimarron River I will continue to post links of the local water flows and start talking about the + and - of each and what to expect in a trip to these waters currently for the little cimarron and the cimarron river conditions are High water/stained brown with lots of snow melt due to warmer temps. fish are still being caught in the upper elevations where water is a bit more clear
