  1. For the record, I'm not anti-guide and have a couple of friends that guide for a living. I guess I can apologize for the "skirt comment" but I tend to be sarcastic at times. Otherwise I don't feel I made any comments that I don't think are true. We're all entitled to our opinions and those are mine. I actually enjoy a good argument so this has been fun , to those of you still upset over the comments I and others have made.......you're obviously taking this forum a little too seriously!! Lighten up!!
  2. Eric you should learn to read posts a little more thoroughly before you reply. Your reply to my post infers that I am on the side of these followers and I am not. I don't like it any more than you do but I have learned to live with it. If you're trying to say that it happens to you more simply because you're a guide, I beg to differ. I get crowded out of spots almost every time I hit our local tailwaters. Start catching fish and someone will inevitably crowd you out. The difference is I don't put on my skirt and complain about it on a fishing forum and then whine because not everybody feels sorry for me. I may mumble some unfriendly words under my breath and then I move and let the offender have my spot , he's not going to ruin my day. Honestly if you think this will ever go away you're very naieve , the lake will only continue to get more crowded with fisherman and a portion of these people will be idiots that have no common decency or consideration for others. And by the way I've also had the shoe on the other foot and been crowded out of a spot I was fishing by a guide because he felt he had more right to it than I (I assume because he was "working" and I'm just playing around). My suggestion.....don't bite the hand that feeds you or you very well may starve!! Jeff H.
  3. This happens everyday on lots of bodies of water and 90% of the people it happens to are NOT guides. We all need to acknowledge the fact that our waters are getting more crowded and some of these folks don't hold the same standards as the rest of us. Add to that the fact that TR is a popular tourist destination where many of the fisherman are not familiar with the lake and you end up with followers. I have a couple of close friends that are trout guides and they go through the same thing (maybe even worse) but what you have to keep in perspective is that these tourists are the same ones enabling you to do something you enjoy for a living. Without the local tourism you wouldn't have a clientel. Right or wrong it will continue to happen and it will get worse not better so stop complaining and go on with life. I don't think it's right , but I don't feel any more sympathy for you than I do the average Joe that gets crowded out of his spot by these same people , maybe less. We only get a limited time to enjoy our fishing habits and you guys spend every day doing something you enjoy. If you're really good at what you do then just smile and head off around the corner knowing that the SPOT you left is one of many on the lake holding fish. I contend with these same folks on my too far and few between weekend trips and have learned to accept it as I suggest you should , otherwise find a profession that doesn't involve guiding for a living.
  4. Thanks for the info. I may change my plans and camp somewhere further upriver where the trout fishing is better.
  5. Just wondering how far downstream the trout fishing goes on the Current? Is there still good trout fishing around the Pulltite area or is it mostly smallmouth water? Thanks for any help.
  6. The wife and I are going to be in the area Monday and Tuesday of next week and plan on stopping and checking out Johnson's Shut-Ins while we're there. Would like to camp somewhere close by in that area and was looking for some suggestions. Just need a place to put a tent and a fire ring for a campfire. The more primitive and uncrowded the better but I know that's hard to find these days. Any suggestions are appreciated.
  7. Sounds like a great trip! Makes me wish that I hadn't let the weatherman scare me off and made the trek down on Monday morning. I was just afraid I'd show up to a flooded river after a 5 hour drive. That's what I get for listening to the weather predictions!!
  8. Unless they are predicting no generation at Taney theres a really good chance I'll be heading down that direction on Monday morning and fishing Monday and Tuesday. I'll shore up my plans more this weekend depending on water levels and weather, if I'm there I'd be interested in meeting up and fishing with you for a while. I won't be much help on advice though as I've only fished the Current 3 or 4 times so I'm still learning the river (and the fish). I'll post again tomorrow if I'm going and maybe we can hook up.
