  1. Marty, just wanted to thank you for all you reports, and helpful hints. the reports you post here are awsome and i really like that you include us lowly bank fishers.
  2. Looks like you guys had a great time down there! Wish i could've made it!!!
  3. i've got one for ya,.. happened to me last night. I was fishing for some cats up around the dam in stockton had my big trble hooked loaded up with liver and cast it in, perfect cast, anytime i keep the liver on the hook when casting is a perfect cast! set my pole in the cross beams of my chair so that i wouldn't loose it, and went up to the cooler to grab a cold beverage and a hot dog to stick on the fire. about half way i heard the sound of the chair fall, running back to my spot i grabbed the pole and set the hook! SNAP!!! broke the pole right above the reel. now I'm wonedering what the heck to do. i have no idea if i have the fish, how big it is, could it really be big enough to have broken the pole? any way i quickly decided to try to land it with my remaining handle of the fishing pole and reel. got it landed and to my surpise it was only about a 4 pound channel. but one heck of a fight with no rod there to help ya, i should have just did what my niece did with her first fish ever, a 5 inch long sunfish, and just took off running backwards up the bank, instead of trying to reel the thing in.
  4. This may sound like an odd question, but i'm trying to learn and understand more about the fish i'm catching, or should i say trying to catch , lol. why is it that i have never caught a small carp? or even heard of some one catching small ones? i have caught small everything else in the water,.. crappie, bass, cats, bluegill, etc but have never even seen a small carp?!! Best i can remember the smallest i've seen is probably 12 to 15 inches, and given that's pretty small for our bugle lips, i know that they have to grow to get to that size, right? do the little ones not feed on the same things as the larger ones or what is the deal? like i said just wonering i'm not going out there to catch the small ones but i have heard that carp make great cat bait, of course heard the same thing about dog poo!
  5. GOOD LUCK!!! I've got a trip planned tonight so I'll give ya a run down tomorrow!
  6. just found this post, i am kinda like you there lilley, i love to hunt but i am no expert, while i do bag a deer or two every year i think that tips and pointers from everyone like we do the fishing here is a great idea, maybe just a new forum here with sub forums, like deer, qauil dove and pheastant, duck, etc, you know just like the rest of em here... i mean a guy can't fish all the time!! or can he?????
  7. weekend of the 8th should be good for me,... what about the rest of you fella's???
  8. this may be a little premature but me and some of the other members are trying to put together a fish in for carp, cats, whatever, it's an all night type of event, you can check out the rest of the info as it becomes available on the "suggestions for administrators" forum, it's under the topic "cat's, carp, and all the other misunderstood, topic.... GONNA BE A GREAT TIME!!!
  9. i noticed some last weekend in the afternoon, around the masters area, i have caught them there quit a bit in the past. in the cove where the fishing dock is located. GOOD LUCK!!
  10. ok sketch is rough but this is a hot spot,.. the red dots are where i found the fish to mainly be, the green is weeds(sparse and fishable) the pink/purple slashes are submerged trees, and the pink/purple x's are free standing trees, the shore line is rock, some large but mostly pea gravel, lots of carp jumping some very large, very good catfishing, the pool on the left is about 6-8 feet deep(est.) the pools bank on the top of sketch is a small rock bluff, the break between the main lake and the pool is about 75 feet across, the main lake are is pretty deep 20-30 ft, and the shore line at the bottom right is actually a rock bluff that can be fished very easily since the water is down(great for you night time crappie guys), the black is the access road and the little yellow dot,.. well that's me, fishin' my little heart out!!!lol. i like this area for size, convienence, variety of fishing, it's hardly ever fished to any great extent, have never seen more than one or two people there and i frequent this spot alot. i'm up for suggestions on places, dates are somewhat limited, but of course weekends are best.
  11. i guess we would just need to get a common place to go or a meeting place to meet and then go, i can post maps, if mo knows a place that can support 50, and still catch something, then it sounds like the battle is half way won, now i guess we just need to get some members to join us, i went to a place last night i hadn't been to in a while and brought home 3 nice channels, carp where "flying"(some really big ones) everywhere in the cove, i'm going to post a sketch of the place as soon as i can, it created a quite unique fishing opprotunity for different species, landed the 3 cats, 4 drum, could get the carp to bite, and i had my line broken 2 times!!! this all within the last hour of daylight, MAN WHAT A GOOD TIME!!! this place could support several, maybe like anyway i'm pretty new to this fish in thing, and it sounds like you guys are a little more familiar with it, i just would like the opprotunity to fish with some of you guys and see what i can learn and how much fun we could have!!! hey mo-- how bout s'mores???
  12. with the coming up 4th of july i was just wondering if anyone knows when the fireworks display will be this year. is it on the 4th?
  13. http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/catchfish.asp thought this was quite funny,... nice looking fish though.
  14. how bout a camp/ fishing get together for all? everyone has caught a bass but to enter a tourney with some of you guys,... well i'll just write you a chek now and save the gas$$$ it would take, lol. but how bout a couple of days worth of fishing? all you bass and daytime fishers can go during the day and get burned and all that fun stuff, the rest of us will wait until night and pull in some big ones to fry up,... if any one would like to get together on stockton lake and do some all night fishing let me know
  15. i do some fishing on it, but i fish it where it's still cosidered a creek, local name for it is "linn creek" and there are several access points around bolivar. different bridges and that sort of thing. usually fish it for cats, carp, and buffalo, but i have seen guys fly fishing it for bass, and some of them do quite well. if you need directions to some of these spots pm me.
  16. does anyone out there know when the cats started spawning, if they have, and if it is over? i went to a place last night that is great catting during the spawn, its some rip rap around a bridge here local, used to pull 5 to 10 pounders out a few years ago. just can't remember what time frame i was catching them, it was either the first week of june thru the first couple of july, or the first of may thru june, and do you think the lowered water level will or has effected this type of fishing? would really like some help on this one.
  17. i'm a big fan of these streams rivers and creeks, there is one that has several access points around the bolivar area, does anyone have any advice for cats in these waters. i have caught some nice ones in the past at these sites, it just seems like each time a catch a decent sized one my bait supply is gone from all the smaller ones i had to go through, and if not then they just seem to stop biting after one or two large ones. any one know why or am i just cRaZY?
  18. hey i'm pretty sure that the river that runs just outside of bolivar here is the very uppermost end of pomme is that correct or am i way off? either way i'm fishin a couple of holes on it that have yeilded me some pretty nice fish in the past. just wondering!
  19. planning on going again tonight, will probably hit a local river/stream, its very upper end of pomme river just outside of bolivar, or might try hittin' up @ high point again,... as always i'll let you know the outcome.
  20. well i fished a cove there @ high point, used to be a pretty deep with small to mid sized rock (4 to 5 inch) bottom. tried from a boat for a little while then banked it for the rest of the evening, got a ton of bites, there were some weeds, and the water was about 10 to 12 feet out in the center, (unless my buddies fish finder is questionable). oh yeah and i fell in first thing launchin' the boat!
  21. well the night went ok, not a stringer buster or anything but did manage to trick a couple of smaller channels in. didn't seem to be biting real well. did receive a ton of small bites around 1 to 3 am.
  22. well the bait seemed to have worked very well, had a ton of bites, landed a few but they were small, my excuse will be that the larger ones are still on the nest, and it's still a little early in the season. it's the best i can do! anyone got any tips on what they are hitting, where (@ stockton and pomme)or when.
  23. yup, it's hard to beat a good day at the farm pond. thanks for you support there lilley!!! some of the fastest, most fish catching, and relaxing days that i can remember have been spent in very similar places to what you were describing, except mine were he in mo,.. and thanks i had forgotten about the bacon and string trick.
  24. i know alot of these are "secret" recipes, but if anyone has a recipe for cats that works well on stockton or pomme, i'd appreciate if you'd share it with me, i'm trying one tonight that i found which consists of mac and cheese powder, garlic, sardines, and chicken liver. i'll let you know how it works out for me.
  25. i know that there are mixed emotions about private ponds, but i really don't think there is anyone out there that can deny that they have fished them and had a great time,...the fun in landing a bunch of fish and usually good sized ones,... i'm only bringing this up because i recently caught my personal biggest bass on one of these "secret fishin holes", the fish was about 25 inches and weighed in at just under 10 pounds. yes he's still in the pond, i'm waitin for him to grow up before i catch him again...
