  1. Did not get to go as the wife was not feeling well. I've seen a few diving in the past, though, up by the dam. See more sunfish than anything. Next would be black bass.
  2. This has gotten a little off track. I guess I'll drop out of this thread by saying my condolences are with the recent drowning victims family.
  3. Last weekend. And will swim again tomorrow. Probably do some scuba diving in the morning, too. Zero history of heart issues or seizures in my family, either. I'm not arguing about being careful out there. But I don't think you can make blanket statements, is all. Like my favorite prophet says "A man's got to know his limitations" (credit to Clint Eastwood, of course).
  4. I spent 5 of my 6 junior and senior years on the swim team and was a Red Cross certified lifeguard. Being in the water with no safety net, so to speak, does not bother me in the least. But I'm sure there are far too many folks without good swimming skills that take far too many risks in the water. Unfortunately, life can be a cruel teacher.
  5. I was passed on Old Prarire Creek road by a Sheriff today. I was on the way home from running errands, about 3pm. Obvious he was in a hurry. Got down to the "beach" area, where the road used to go into the lake, and saw another Sheriff car on the beach and some yellow tape. Quite a crowd too, which is not unusual on a hot summer day. Then I heard on the news that a guy had drowned there. 3rd one this year on Beaver, according to Quillback. http://5newsonline.c...-beaver-lake-2/ Wife just drove by the area and said it looks completely normal down there now. So I guess it's just part of the game folks play with the lake.

    Cabela's

Not many of those kinds of clubs left. When I was a much more active hunter in MN, we had a couple of those. And I always enjoyed going to them. But, like so many outdoor sports, the average age is growing quickly and participation is dropping. Cost of shooting trap these days is not helping them, either.

    Cabela's

It will be nice to have it here. I am looking forward to it. But having spent a LOT of time in much bigger Cabela's, I expect to be underwhelmed by the selection, especially for black bass fishing. It's just not their thing. Heck, even the BPS is Springfield does not excite me much. I'm kind of into higher end tackle, and they just don't carry much of it in the store, even though they show it on their website. I'm sure I'll still be spending the vast majority of my local tackle buying money at HLS. Those guys do a great job for me.
  8. Water Trash! Love it. Yeah, we had a decent morning. This time of year, I'll take days like that all I can. No sense beating our heads on the wall chasing big LM's suspended in deep water. If guys like Bill can't catch them reliabily right now, I know I'm way out of my league trying!

    Cabela's

Saw a bunch of Sky Carp in the PC area yesterday morning. Please relocate as many as possible.
  10. I'm not too worried about it honestly. We've been here 7 years, and the lake was super low the first 2-2.5 years or so. Huge docks in the PC cove on dry land, etc. Talking heads on the nightly news said it was global warming, it would take years to fill back up if it ever did, yada, yada. Then we had a wet late winter/spring that 3rd year and boom, filled back up in just a few weeks.

    Cave Tours

We went to the Smallin cave. Very interesting. The tour guide/owner was a lot of fun. We had done a tour at the Cosmic cave the year before. That was more of a real cave experience, but the guide was not nearly as good and made for a worse experience. Smallin cave has a HUGE opening, and a lot of history. My son and I may go back at some point to do a wild cave tour of Smallin. Thanks for the recommendations.

    Thanks much!
  13. I'm pretty sure freshwater shrimp = crayfish.

    Lost Rod/reel

It has not shown up. I'd guess it's been found by now, so doesn't look like it's going to find its way home.
  15. Maybe no confusion in your club about it, but I think a lot of folks that are not in an organized club and/or don't fish night tournaments are unsure of it's meaning. It would not hurt for the boating manual to make that a lot clearer.
  16. Sorry to hear about the heart issues, F&F. Hope the doc's get you 100% again.
  17. The sometimes fuzzy area though, I think, is the "underway" term. A lot of folks consider that to mean when the big motor is running. But in point of fact, it basically means if you're not moored. So drifting, being on the trolling motor, etc are considered underway.
  18. I agree. But I think to be legal, they'd need full lights on, unless they were actually anchored or moored to a dock or shore. At least that's the way I read the stuff posted here so far.
  19. Word is they wrote over 100 tickets. Hardly sounds like they had any problems finding people doing things wrong.
  20. That's what they said. I wonder if it depends on who gives the tickets (AGFC, Sheriff, etc)? I've never heard of the water for dogs thing. I'd be making them show me where that rule is. I carry a bowl in my boat for the dogs. Hopefully that would pass. You're right, they seem to be issuing mostly full on tickets. Must be an enforcement crackdown. Which Beaver does need, IMO.
  21. That was pretty funny. But I think that has to do with the shallow ramp. Laura and I watched a guy launch a bass boat there last Sunday. Front bumper of the truck was past the waterline 5' or so. He had his YOUNG son wade in and drive the truck up to dry land after launching it, so he wouldn't have to get his pants wet. Kid couldn't have been more than 10 or 12. He was shouting directions on what to do. We did not even bother bringing the boat up there for the weekend. Just too crazy. But we had a campspot on the lake and saw many violations from our picnic table. Nutty time of the year to be on the water. I heard at HLS today that there was a lot of enforcement out last weekend on Beaver. I guess they wrote 100+ tickets, which is good! Apparently a lot of them were PWC's after dusk with no lights as well as fishermen turning their lights off when fishing at night. The latter is a $285 ticket, they said. Y'all be careful out there!
  22. Thanks for the link F&F. Hard to believe they were all treated and released! But good to know. KWall, I hear you. I try to stay off of Beaver on the weekends, especially anytime after 10am or so. And if you think Beaver is bad, try Table Rock on a summer weekend!
  23. Yeah, right outside of PC. You know, I never gave a thought to it having not been reported. Man, I hope it was before I saw it. Could've been a body below it while I was taking pictures, I guess. KFSM for sure contacted the authorities about it, though. The way they sounded was like the LE agencies knew about it, but were being tight lipped. The person talking to me assumed that meant there was a death and they were trying to contact family first. But I did think it was kind of odd there was no indication of the cops having been there. Maybe they were tight lipped because they had no idea of what was going on?
  24. I reported it to KFSM. They're very interested. Hopefully they'll have more details on the news. Along with some of my pictures maybe.
  25. Saw this while out fishing this morning on Beaver. Must have happened last night. Looks like it drove it straight in. Notice the glass and parts on the ledge above it. Busted chairs, some blood, not a pretty scene. Nothing on the local news about it so far.
