    Xmas bassing

With no family in town, I decided to take advantage of the warm weather and hit the lake about 630 yesterday morning for some Xmas fishing. Caught a couple fishing WW's and RC's along point sides at first. Was idling along and found a bait ball with fish under it, which I see a lot of on Beaver. Does not always mean fish, but it did this time. Used the spot lock on the trolling motor to setup in the face of the good breeze and got into them! Just happened to park over where they were and caught a bunch of nice fish with spoons. LM and SM over 3, many spots in the 2+ range. I caught 4 in 4 casts at one point. 25'-35' deep. Finally wore them out and caught a few more fishing steep banks and points with spoons and jerk baits. Wind drove me off the lake about 10am. One of the better days I've had on Beaver for a while.
  2. Saw Jeff this evening. He's doing much better than I expected for such a major deal. Getting around really well, but not fast enough to keep me away from his cold beer. :-) Had a good time chatting with him.
  3. Asking everyone to send good thoughts to Quillback. He had a knee replaced Wednesday, but is doing well. He looked good in the hospital yesterday and even fought his way out of there earlier than expected. But it'll be a while before we get another of his great fishing reports. Hope you heal fast, buddy!
  4. Debit card from my credit union is fully protected, for free. They will repay 100% of any fraudulent charges.
  5. Mustang HIT inflatable. From the time I get in the boat until it's back on the trailer. Never really notice it's there.
  6. I am an early riser, but you'll never catch me out there fishing at sundown. :-)
  7. I think I just hit it at the perfect time. Caught them feeding.
  8. I'm not much of a weekend fishermen, when the crowds are out, but had the opportunity to get out Sunday morning for a few hours, and the rain was mostly south, so jumped on it. On the water at 0530. It was actually a little on the cool side with just shorts and a t-shirt. But a good morning for fishing. Stayed cloudy, a nice breeze and cooling water temps at 79. Perfect! Fish were very cooperative on my milk run of brush piles and rock humps. Spoons, topwaters and drop shots accounted for most of them. A 19" walleye, 11 spots (several in the 15+ range) and one small smallmouth. Back in the garage just as it started raining, around 9:30. All in the PC/mid-lake area. Had a lot of misses on the topwater, more so than I'd normally see. Not sure why, but the action was fun. And I did catch a couple of nice ones on topwaters.
  9. 4.5" of rain in the gauge near PC. But the cove did not go brown, and the creek itself is still clear. So it all soaked in, it looks like.
  10. Good to hear they got the dock back in the water. That was getting kind of dangerous. Sounds like you had a good day of fishing,
  11. Water temp was 82-84. Fish were in 30-35 FOW, from the bottom up to 15' or so. Mixed school. We caught LM, Spots, a nice smallie, a mean mouth and even one white all in basically the same spot.

    Sunday report

No, the boat I'm talking about is a runabout, not a dedicated ski boat.

    Sunday report

If that was mid-lake area, down around Coppermine, I see them all the time. Must be some ritual they have. It's pretty much every day. I've never had them cut me like that, but they do seem to follow the same course all the time.
  14. Congrats! Nice bag.
  15. It's gone. I heard there's a video of them dragging it off the rocks, maybe on FaceCrooks. But I can't find it. Apparently, they got it over to the bridge and loaded on a trailer.
  16. Still there. Quillback and I saw it yesterday while out fishing. Hope nobody was hurt.
  17. Huh-oh. Going to see Jeff out trolling for whites now?! Seriously, glad you found a good bite on the whites. They are fun to catch.
  18. Congrats to Steve! Awesome bag.

    Tuesday Morn

I've also caught a lot more small mouths in the mid-lake area this year.
  20. I bought it new the summer of 2011.
  21. Excellent question! Feeling dumb for not putting it in the ad. Shaft is 54". MSRP on this motor new would be almost $1300.
  22. Minn Kota Power Drive V2 70 trolling motor for sale. It has 70lbs of thrust and is a 24v motor. It has the built in US2 transducer, Copilot with one remote and Auto Pilot. It includes the foot pedal also. This trolling motor works great. The only issue is that the bottom inch or so of the skeg is missing, but I put a stainless steel "Raptor" extension on it to get it to the original length. It has no impact on the motors performance. Pulls my 21' Skeeter around well. $400 obo. Located in Rogers, AR.
  23. Cabela's has had a lot more sales the last year than in the past. When I lived in MN, we were not far from what I believe was their first store outside of Nebraska, in Owatonna. It was so rare to see anything on sale in there. Now in the Rogers, AR store, it's very common to see sale and clearance racks.
  24. Love it when the c-rig starts working! Nice fish, Jeff.
