  1. I bought some a couple of years ago and fished them a fair amount. They just do not work for me, for whatever reason. I've yet to ever catch a fish on one. Omega jigs is a good one for me. I've had a lot of success with those. Bass-X lures sells a very similar one that works well, too.
  2. It is naive to think politics don't play a major role in this. There is a lot of evidence that this is largely an international power play, especially at the U.N. level. And the vast majority of research money here in the States to keep the gravy train rolling for the army of scientists and their facilities comes from tax dollars, so politics are hugely important there. Like it or not, it literally pays to be on the side of AGW/CC in most of these fields. And those paycheck are mostly signed by Uncle Sam. That makes politics intrinsic to these discussions.
  3. As little as possible, which is why I liked and tried to abide by the no GW discussion rule. I'm an admin on a large international motorcycle forum and I know what a PITA those threads are, so I was hoping the hardline in Phil's rule would be enforced. But it is what it is, and it's all out in the open now. So forward we go. I agree that it's hard to not call a GW debate political!

    Storms?

No problem in the Prarire Creek area that I'm aware of. We lost power for about 2 hours, but that's not bad for living in the country with a storm like this rolling through. Heart goes out to the folks in Moore, though.
  5. What you tell me is irrelavant compared to what the forum owner had posted for rules.
  6. That does seem to be the case. But his current rule, which I try to respect, is: Don't Start Another Topic On Climate Change Or Politics Or... Which is what I'd like to see him modify officially. But given what he's said in this thread, I, like many here already have, will ignore it going forward.
  7. Agreed. Your question is about this "this subject" and I've never seen anyone change their mind about it on the various internet forums I'm active on, including this one. I appreciate the clarification. And I agree you should probably change the verbiage of your rules about this. As I've said over and over, I'm just trying to respect you and your rules. I can argue GW with the best of them, but hate to do it given your currently stated rules.
  8. And parents. My father worked with my brother and I to help us earn our merit badges, and I have a lot of great memories of that, too.
  9. Who can say if it changed your natural direction? It seems like it was just part of the way I was headed anyway, but I'm sure the scouts did much to sharpen my love of the outdoors.
  10. You are obviously incorrect or he would not have posted as he did above. BTW, freedom of speech does not extend to a privately owned internet forums. You agree to follow the rules of the owner when you sign up.
  11. My apologies. I thought you hadn't read it, but It seems it's a reading comprehsion issue instead. I understand now. So it's okay if you step over the line, as long as you apologize to the board owner when you do it? Can you confirm that's the way it works, Phil? Thanks.
  12. Wow. Boggles the mind how people can comment on this thread without reading the article in the FIRST post.
  13. Read the article!
  14. Ah, so you never bothered to even read the link in the OP. That explains much, including the fallacy of your ridiculous arguments.
  15. So what about the power companies getting fined for birds killed by electrical wires? Should be applied equally, plain and simple.
  16. The point is, obviously, the double standard. If the other energy producers are getting fined for killing birds, the supposedly green sources should be held to the same standard.
  17. No offense intended Phil, but I'm not sure why you'd be surprised that members here continue to step on your rules and wishes when you continue to allow these threads to go on, despite your posted warning. I know I sit on my hands as long as I can each time one of these comes up in deference to your rules, hoping you'll come along and lock it down, hand out suspensions, etc. But since that does not happen, you are simply inviting these to go on and on, IMO. Frustrating for a person who is trying to stay within the rules!
  18. Mine says just under 3.5" in the PC area. That's just overnight.

    5/9 Report

Went out for 3 hours yesterday afternoon. Checked in the backs of some spawning coves. Saw lots of beds, but no fish on them. And only one bite back there. I got into the fish a bit out on some main lake points in the PC area. Drop shotting when I saw active fish below me and dragging c-rigs and t-rigs otherwise. Caught 8 fish, but nothing huge. 16" LM was the biggest. Caught a few fat little spots that looked like they hadn't spawned yet, or else they had been eating really well. Water is clearing up well from our recent rains. Visibility in the PC to Ventris area is 6' or so. Water temps 61-63.
  20. Wow, waking up a 3 year old thread just to spam us is not really very cool.
  21. Yes, HLS now carries Skeeter, GL3 and War Eagle boats. I'm not sure what the plan is for service on them. I'll have to ask next time I'm in. I know the owner also has a marina on one of the Bella Vista lakes, so maybe they do service out there?
  22. The better question would be has anyone here needed to have a 4 stroke yamaha overhauled. I doubt it. I intend to keep my boat/motor for 20 years and I fully expect the motor to be basically problem free during that time. In the forums I visit, I've NEVER read about any chronic issues with this series of motors. I'm sure you're right that if things to go bad on a 4 stroke, they can be very expensive to fix. But I read about a ton more posts about blown 2 strokes than I do 4 strokes.
  23. I respect your experience, but am not worried in the least. The motor series I have is the same one used in so many commercial and offshore boats, and those guys punish those motors day in and day out, yet seem to have little to no problems with them. I very rarely go wide open, or anything close to it, keep up on all my maint and believe this motor will last at least as long as any 2 stroke I've owned. I've never met anyone with a Yamaha 4 stroke in this series of motors that has a bad thing to say about them. The SHO has had some teething issues, though. Fuel mileage is worth talking about, IMO, and it was a big part of my decision. In the performance bulletins the manufacturers put out, this series of 4 strokes is much more fuel efficient than the Vmax. According to the bulletins for my boat/motor, at 3000rpm, which I cruise at quite a bit, my motor is 20% more fuel efficient than the 200 VMax that I had them pull off to put my 225F on. When you add that to the no buying 2 stroke deal, the running costs will be cosiderably decreased over the life of the motor. I have to change the oil every 100 hours, but the total cost of that is easily less than 2 gallons of 2 stroke oil. Not putting down the 2 strokes at all. They are great options, too. I just don't think anyone should be scared of buying a Yamaha 4 stroke.
  24. Why specifically do you say to avoid 4 strokes? When I got my skeeter, I had them pull off the Vmax and install the 4 stroke (not the SHO). I bought it for the quietness, much better fuel economy, no constant cost of 2 stroke oil and long term durability. Like the OP, this is my retirement boat and I was much more concerned with cost of operation and durability than I was with anything else, and I've been very happy with my decision. 450+ hours on it now and it runs as good as the day I bought it. The Yamaha website says Rainbow Marine, Cableas and Roger Outdoor Sports are all Yamaha dealers, so I'd guess/hope one of them would have a good service dept. I've not had to get any Yamaha service since Waymack has closed, so I don't know for sure. I guess I'd hit Rainbow first, though, if I needed service on something I couldn't handle.
