I thought after first reading about the fact that this fish was a triploid rainbow it should be considered a seperate catagory. Thinking it was just like the difference between the hybrid bass is to the striper and white bass. Yes it might be of the same species but genetically different. But then reading the comment about the Florida strain bass and the Northern strain bass and how there is no distinction between the two I was undecided. Since they are not in two seperate catagories should we make a seperate catagory for this guys monster rainbow? It almost seems unfair to me, but then I think that this fish is genetically modified to grow big maybe it should be. Then there is the difference between the Florida strain(that grows larger) and the Northern strain (that is more aggressive). I am up in the air about show the record should be kept. Anyway you look at it the fish is a giant. An impressive catch for any fisherman. I myself am jealous. Ask yourselfs how many of you out there would go fishing for them if you knew they were stocked in the lakes or rivers around Missouri, or would you not fish for them because they were GM. I just don't know if it should be considered the world record Rainbow trout, world record Rainbow trout with an asterix, or a world record Triploid Rainbow trout.

I meant 1 pm to 3pm. Around the 49 mm there is a large main lake flat. It probably averages around 15 to 20 feet deep with a large hump that comes all the way up to 4 feet. We drifted again this last weekend and probably only caught a dozen or so. Had a hard time catching anything. I did have some odd luck around our dock in about 4 feet of water in some brush. I was catching crappie. I was shocked to find them so shallow this time of year even with this colder weather.

I was catching the catfish around 1 to 3, and the rest of the time we were out there around 8 am. til we got tired.

Tried the main lake points with a rattle trap and crankbaits. Didn't have any luck finding the whites. We did see big balls of shad in about 5 to 6 feet of water with fish underneath them on the fish finder. This was off the main lake points in about 25 feet of water. I couldn't find what they were bitting on. Does anybody have some suggestions on what to throw at them? I did have some luck with the crappie though. A bone white 1/16th ounce jig in about 15 to 20 feet of water. Saturday I did some drift fishing for catfish on a main lake flat again. Did really well again. I was only out there for about 2 hours and caught 25. They were around one to two pounds. Too many boats after the sun came out.

I was down there last weekend (Sept. 1) and didn't see any activity on the surface. I sure did catch the heck out of the blue cats drifting across a shallow flat on the main lake. I sure was looking for the whites to start busting the water after those shad. Heading down again this weekend. Might try the rattle traps on the main points like fishinwrench suggested. Will let you know how I did.

Did you catch all of those whites and hybrids below the dam? Wow, what a catch. Looks like you had a awesome day.

Thanks for the advice. I'll bring everything I've got. I have some of those Gulp Alive minnows, I think that I might try those. Do you recommend to look for the eyes in the current or in the slack water? I have only been fishing for walleye in Canada and up there you could catch them anywhere you fished. I'm figuring they are a little harder to find down here and not as abundent. I also heard that a jig tipped with a night crawler works. I have never tried this but I'm curios if it is a good lurer to use.

I am curios if the Truman tailwaters in the fall (late october) is a good place to go for whites and walleyes? I have only fished up there once and I fished the slack water side. I caught a lot of crappie. I have a house around the 48mm and I'm wondering if the long trip up to the dam would be worth it. If so would shallow diving crankbaits and in-line spinners be the lures to bring, or should I bring just a bunch of jigs?

Thank you all for the information. I will definately check out the older posts for that time last year. What would be a good spot to put the boat in if we are going to be fishing farther down the lake than by the first bridge near the dam? I have bought a Hotspots map off the internet, just wondering if the spots to fish on there are any good?

My father and I are looking to go to Stockton for another fall excursion for some walleyes. We fish LOZ and have only fished Stockton once. We went last year and had no luck. We tried trolling along some main lake points and bluffs. We used crankbaits and lindy rigs with a minnow. We put in by the darn and only went a little ways past the first bridge. Does anyone have a good idea where the walleyes are around the end of October and what would be the most productive bait to use?
