  1. Pretty deep I assume? Or were they at least starting to move into the 10-12 foot range of water?
  2. Were these fish also in the 25-35 foot range?
  3. How deep do you typically fish an A-rig on T-Rock. I would guess something to the effect of positioning the boat in 30 feet of water and throwing toward the point or bank. Am I on or off with that statement? I've fished them down south but the lakes were much more shallow and we were fishing Florida strain bass.
  4. Yeah I have a transducer saver mount. I'll have to pick up a shield though. Thanks for the input guys.
  5. Welcome. Hands down this forum has taught me how to fish the Rock. Great group of guys who never hold back. Just having a basic idea on what to do and where to start, you can figure it out on your own after that pretty easy. Also spending a day on the water with Bill Babler doesn't hurt. You'll learn enough to be dangerous for sure.
  6. Anyone had any trouble or issues mounting this on the trolling motor? I have a transducer saver but was curious what other folks experience has been with SI fish finders.
  7. What was the water temp?
  8. Just want to thank everyone for the help. Lilley was right on, found slab after slab in pole timber in 20 ft of water. Me and my dad both caught out limits. Had 10 crappie over 12 inches with the biggest being 14. Threw a bobber and minnow at the bank and caught some males. All fish were caught on minnows. Males were only on a few select banks. Any tree we could find in 20 ft of water had at least one slab on it, most had 3-4 fish per tree. Only caught maybe 8 short fish all day. All the females still had eggs so I don't think they are done. Water was 68.5-70 degrees. We fished the kings. Thanks again guys! I can't express it enough!
  9. Thanks Bill. This crazy weather had me worried that we might be too late. Might end up just throwin shaky heads or flukes for bass.
  10. So my dad is down at the lake (I'm driving down this evening), flew up from Alabama to try and catch some crappie over Easter weekend. He went out this morning and hasn't caught a single fish. Fished Mill Creek up by Shell Knob throwing the banks and just caught a few small bass. From the reports that I have read everyone was saying the fish are on the banks spawning. He can't catch a crappie to save his life right now it seems. Has anyone been catching any crappie on the banks in the Kings or White river around Shell Knob or maybe Viola? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  11. My buddy was down at table rock this last week and really got into the crappie. Him and his family caught about 30-40 or so off his dock using minoows 8-12 foot down. I know they were up the James but I don't know much more info than that. They were just fishing the cables on the dock and doing pretty well. Here is a pic of the catch. His girlfriend had a blast!
  12. The crappie actually came from a 2 acre farm pond. Was about 3 lbs I'm guessing, but I had the pic so I figured I'd throw it up there.
  13. Came down with the family for our yearly trip. We have a place up at Shell Knob. Saturday morning when we got there I took the girlfriend drop shotting. We caught about 20 fish but had to hit a lot of locations and most of my go-to spots were producing very few fish. The water was a bit murky I believe for the drop shot and it seemed like the KYs just hadn't really stacked up on many of the deep docks yet. I hit 6 or so deep docks and only 2 had fish. Usually I can pull 50 bass off those 6 docks. The girlfriend was happy with the fish she caught and wanted to tag along for the rest of the trip so that evening I switched to throwing a 5/8 oz PB&J football jib and a 3/16 oz green pumpkin or watermelon shaky head in 12-20 foot of water on points. Caught 14 fish in an hour and 15 min with several of them being keepers. Sunday, went out early with my dad and brother. They were both throwing FB jigs while I was trying the shakyhead. That morning they wanted the FB jig as I only caught 4, while dad caught 10 and my brother caught 6 I believe. This last weekend it seemed like the evening bite was better than the morning bite. That evening I caught 12 fish off pt 22 in an hour with a nice 19 inch SM. Up at the Knob we don't get to catch many SM so I was thrilled! I ended up getting a 18 inch and 19 inch SM this last weekend, both came on the shakyhead. Monday morning was fantastic with the cloud cover. Stayed on the lake until about 10:30 and caught the largest LM on a shakyhead off a bluff end in the white river. The key was really hopping from point to point. If they were there you would pick one up in 5-10 casts or so. I never stayed in a place long if I didn't get bit within a few casts. This morning things were pretty slow. We tried about 6-8 different points and caught some decent fish but the bite was very slow by 8:00. I brought Dad and my brother back to the dock and I went back to try this one bluff with lots of cuts in it that usually has some fish. Caught 4 LM's off of one of the cuts in the bluff. Mad 12 casts and caught 10 fish, 9 of them being LM's and 1 being a KY. Caught one LM that went 19 inch and 4 lbs. All in all it was a great trip with several LM's over 3 lbs and two nice smallies. I saw about a 8 lb dead walleye that had floated to the top. Was a shame to see him dead but what can you do. Just wanted to thank the guys on this forum, I am always able to catch good fish by the generous reports on here. I only make it down to the Rock maybe once or twice a year but have been fishing it since I was old enough to hold a pole. Thanks again for the great info!

  15. Fished April 3rd-5th, ran way up the Kings river and were catching crappie in 20 foot of water casting toward the bank. We caught about 30-40 a day but we fished pretty hard. Only color they would hit was a white marabou jig 1/16th ounce. Anywhere you can find brush in 20 foot of water or a big lay down, you should find em. We caught lots of shorts but managed a good stringer of keepers for the freezer with a couple really nice slabs. You really just have to try a lot of different places because we only found a hand full of spots that they were biting well at. Most of the banks we fished turned up nothing but then you would get into em once you found a good submerged tree or laydown. It's a shame how much the lake has changed over the years. Coves that I used to fish as a kid that were just full of cedar trees now have virtually none in them. All broken off, or eroded away over the years. Crappie fishing on T-rock isn't like it used to be 10 years ago thats for sure. Anyways good luck!
  16. Headed down to Shell Knob this weekend with my dad to try our luck with some crappie. Has anyone been doing any good in the kings or white? Will be there Friday through Tuesday. Also has anyone been doing much with the white bass in the shell knob area? As always your info is greatly appreciated. This site is such a great group of folks. Thanks!
  17. Had a couple more questions.. When you guys are fishing a tube or grub, do you guys typically fish it along the bottom or in contact with the bottom, or just throw it, count it down, and real it back to the boat? Also when drop shotting on fish in 23-28 feet of water, are you talking about suspended fish or are you positioning your boat at that depth and looking for fish on the bottom? Thanks again!
  18. Hey thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to try that this weekend.
  19. I always drop shot crawlers. I have tried several different types/colors of finesse worms but the crawlers seem to perform better from my experience, I just hate the mess.
  20. First off I just want to thank all the contributors to this forum. I'm a long time reader, first time poster. Without you guys, my 1-2 trips down to the Rock every year would yield very few fish. Anyways, my family owns a house on the lake at Shell knob just west of the bridge (the only wooden dock still left with a well house on it). It has been in our family for about 45 years now and I have been taking vacations there ever since I was old enough to walk. This year is a rare occasion as I am actually able to take an extra trip down this weekend. My main concerns are the current patterns of fish. I typically fish Table Rock over July 4th, which is usually one of the best times for drop shotting and throwing football jigs. This summer's weather patterns have been pretty unusual, and I was curious as to with the recent cooler conditions if the bass were still being taken on the drop shot or if other methods were producing better. Over the years I have found an assortment of submerged trees that hold fish really well when it is hot, and the drop shot just slays em. The current weather report is saying that we might be getting a frontal system that goes through on saturday, I'm hoping that doesn't screw up the fishing too much. As for some questions I have: I have been reading this forum a lot lately and have read several posts about catching white bass, which is something I have never tried to do on Table Rock. When using jigging spoons for white bass, do you folks tie the spoon directly to the line, or do you use as swivel? Also do you use the same rod/reel you would for drop shotting or do you need heavier line and heavier action rod? I have never fished a jigging spoon and I just assume its the same presentation for white bass as it is KYs. What size weights do you typically use when throwing a carolina rigged french fry/centipede? Are the LM's starting to move up shallow? I typically just throw a football jig at the bank when fishing early morning/evenings. How is the spinnerbait bite this time of year? When you guys are fishing docks either deep water or shallower say what are some good methods to try? I don't really have much experience using grubs or tubes and was thinking of trying them but I'm not really sure if these are the best method on the Rock to fish docks. Thanks again everyone for your input, as you can tell I'm not exactly a Pro angler by any means, but this forum sure does help to make my trips to the Rock enjoyable ones.
