  1. Of course he gets a pass on this one...there's nothing wrong with rational debate on any subject. I was just pointing out earlier that CGB was being contrary for the sake of contrarianism...you know you do that sometimes Chief. I thought it was superfluous criticism, that's all. Carry on, fellas. I'm enjoying reading the same debate we've had a thousand other times. Let's keep bickering over the tiny details instead of banding together to protect what we all care about in general.
  2. Oh, come on man. It's not like it was a rabid pit-bull running around wreaking havoc and terrorizing people and wildlife. It was a tiny little beagle WITH a collar on. Totally unrestrained macho-moron behavior on the officer's part. This "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality is really worrisome if you ask me.
  3. You're right, the Triumphs actually aren't that bad for a lower priced stick. Almost picked one up last year, but a more expensive toy caught my eye. Do you know if all Triumphs are on sale at Cab's, or just the fly rods?
  4. Hey thanks buddy...I'll keep that in mind. I did that stretch last fall. It stunk. There are no fish anywhere near there, right guys? NNNOOOOOOO!!!!!! LOL Yeah, Okay Joe. I'll be sure to stay away from that area til I hear from ya. Hey, you think Skip would be interested in doing a shuttle from Meramec State Park up to Onandaga? We'd have two canoes and a kayak, so it might be worth his time since it would still be the off-season...whatdya think? Too far for him? He's a good guy so I'd like to throw him the business if I can't arrange something free.
  5. Hey Gary, since it sounds like most of the membership you'll be getting initially will be coming from the forum, you could set up a "poll" thread to see what days most people would prefer. Just one thread should do it.
  6. Didn't know that one. I'd say that's quite accurate. I learned something today.
  7. Dude, seriously...It's 20 bucks. They're not asking you for your life savings. It's a pittance. And if "time is money," like you so frequently point out, how much did it cost you to sit and type that epic post? I'd say about half your membership fees.
  8. As well you should, Ness. You're one of the voices of sanity around here.
  9. It only got silly when people got all bent out of shape over... A guy trying to grow a branch of an organization whose only goal is to make better and more productive an activity everyone here claims to enjoy. Oh, the irony.
  10. How clever. I guess I'll assume you got my point. And I'll also assume it's not a waste of forum memory space you're concerned with.
  11. I've done pretty much the whole upper half of the river at some point in my life, but it's been a long time for a lot of it. I've done that Birdsnest to Onandaga stretch before, but it's been a while. Sounds nice and private for an overnight. How's the fishing on that stretch? Would you say the fishing is better on that stretch or from Onandaga to the park? I think I remember some really nice scenery on the Onandaga to the park stretch...am I remembering correctly?
  12. You're right KC. This cabin fever has me all irritable. No baby yet...she's due July 1st. Everything is A-OK as of right now. Thanks for asking.
  13. No sir, not yet. I plan to join MSA eventually, and I pick up garbage every time I float.
  14. Absolutely ridiculous. Okay, I want all of the guides on here to clear out their signatures that state they are guides...that's unsolicited advertising and it's cluttering up my screen. Get rid of it. In fact, I guess any liveries, outfitters, fly shop owners, instrucors...anyone with a business or a project or organization to promote who posts here should now go incognito because simply fraternizing and networking with other members of the forum could accidentally spurn some incidental business. And by the way, what's the difference between Gary's effort to bring together like-minded folks for a common purpose and the following, aside from the fact he's part of an actual organization and you're just some guy trying to dupe people into forking over their hotspots to you? Hmmm...guess that's spam, too, no? If you want to get technical about it, the only people that have a right to advertise anything on this forum are Lilley and his paying advertisers. Everything else is just...SPAM. Get a life.
  15. I usually float the way high stretches of the Meramec to avoid the crowds, but we're planning an April float, so I'd like to try out some lower sections (but still above Meramec State Park) that I haven't seen for a really long time. I'm hoping we won't be blown out going in April, but we're planning it anyway. We're doing an overnight and floating two full days, so I figure we can do up to 20 miles. I was considering doing Onandaga to Meramec State Park. Any other recommendations?
  16. So the MSA isn't saving the world this month...big whoop. I would imagine discussing techniques to catch smallmouth would be one of their topics of interest. Geez, Chief. You sure spend a lot of time poo-pooing and criticizing other people's initiative, interests, projects, ideas, whatever. Why don't you tell us about all the work YOU'VE done to improve fisheries so I can tell you what a big waste of time it was and how you really made no difference in the grand scheme of things. So you cleaned up a river with a stream team?...So what? Maybe some other stream team picked up twice the garbage you did, so does that mean YOUR efforts meant nothing? Lighten up, man. Seriously.
  17. How receptive did the Regs Committee seem to be to those recommendations? It's great you guys got to present your ideas to them.
  18. I agree, but in Flysmallie's defense I have to point out he was being satirical...like Rush was the other day. It was clearly a joke.
  19. Take it easy fellas. You guys need to relax and go fishing or something. It's not like Gary's drumming up membership for PETA or something. It's the MSA for God's sake, and they're non-profit. C'mon. Gary, most folks use the "Today's Active Topics" option at the bottom of the main forum page (at least I think they do...that's what I use), so if you post a topic once, chances are it will be seen by all, or at least most. Keep up the good work.
  20. Hmmm...I thought they used their legs. Weird.
  21. That's what you get with "drill baby, drill." Kinda makes you want the drilling to stay in the desert on the other side of the planet...I do anyway.
  22. You know I'm messin' with you, Brother.
  23. Maybe, but if you have a trailer, (or just a pick-up...my solo fits fine diagonally in my bed) you never have to mess with changing racks. And if you only float 2-3 times a year, you'll still come out ahead 10 years from now, because you would have paid about the same for 20 or 30 rentals, but instead you'll own your canoe, which will still be in fine shape if you take care of it. Canoes can last a long time if they're not abused. But the biggest problem with not owning one is you can't float streams that don't have liveries, and the streams that do have liveries are so busy in the summer that I really don't want to float them anyway. Owning gives you the freedom to float wherever you want whenever you want. I say buy one, but don't get the most expensive one they make unless you'll use it a lot and you have the money to blow. Just remember when you're getting ready to buy, like everything else...point of diminished returns.
  24. Always gotta one-up everyone, don't you cricket?
