Fishing In Lo Where And How At The End Of March ?
solus_vero replied to Vola Bass's topic in Lake of the Ozarks
Alberto, I sent you an e-mail to the address you have posted on your profile. -
It's all good. I've learned everything I needed to know. You wont hear anything more on this subject from me. I do not wish any ills on anyone. I sincerely wish you (and others) a great long life. May your lines always stay wet and your honey holes stay full. I copied this from a reply I made on another thread. It is sincere.

It's all good. I've learned everything I needed to know. No hard feelings here. You wont hear anything more on this subject from me. I do not wish any ills on anyone. I sincerely wish you (and others) a great long life. May your lines always stay wet and your honey holes stay full.

Actually ,, Chief ,,,, I was talking about the Gasc and the Big Piney. And no, it wasn't "EVERY TIME" Funny,, you just proved my point from another post. You still don't get it and probably never will so I wont waist my time typing more to you ,,,, Chief.

Pond fishin?,, HECK YA ! Count me in. I'll drive. It'll give me a chance to try out my new float tube and poping bugs. Some people have no idea what it means to be a responsible parent. The boy is lucky your not employed by the Vatican.(I hope that wasn't over the line) I do hope you were kidding about "Sneaking into the ponds,, my flack jacket is at the dry cleaners.

Just a little FYI. I'd like to thank all those who have sent me PMs and e-mails (there were many!) Oh, and by the way, if I'd have known there were going to be that many visits to my profile, I would have put up a better pic ! ROTFL! By the way most talk about Tim, I'm thinking he's going to be wearing a halo and wings when we meet,,lol. BUT <<< Most agree that the first few replies were arrogant,, albeit unintentional,, but still arrogant. And it's not just on this thread. Something to think about,,, for all of us. I also understand the gents that are in question are "Great guys". Hopefully, someday we will meet face to face and I will find out for myself. They may even find out, I'm not "nutty as a squirrel turd" ,, just out spoken at times. I don't hold grudges. I do hope the ones in question are mature enough to feel the same way.
-
If you really want to cut to the quick, I think (a few) of you have become complacent in your responses and you just come across as arrogant. Isn't that worse than being just straight up arrogant? Just think of me as a friend who just told you, you have a bugger hangin from your nose or your fly is open. We can drag this out more for the entertainment value, or just drop it,, whadya say? (actually I never was upset, offended or anything like that. I was just trying to make a point. I'd be willing to bet it all fell on deaf ears though) cheers
-
I hope so,, but,, for some reason ,, I doubt it. Cheers

Ok Mr. FC. I see a few Rattle Traps being "Accidentally" dropped in your waders.LOL! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MOFishwater - But, but, but, HE STARTED IT!

rubicon is right, this is turning into a immature cat fight. I didn't want to go that way but sometime you gotta walk through a little mud to get to the real fishing spot. No matter how you (and others) try to spin this thing around, I asked for some background info and got a smarta** response from you and others. You say you were poking fun at Tim,,, and I was supposed to know that - HOW?!?! What this thread has turned out to be is an attempt to bring to light the arrogance of a few that are selectively blind to that fact. A loosing battle? I guess we'll find out in time. If your first post had nothing to do with me then why did you say anything at all? I guess you think EVERYONE knows you joke with him about his crooked hat all the time? Give me a break. Don't try to play it off. Only after I called you (and others) on your replies did I get any kind of usefully information.
-
How is this a private matter? This is a public forum. My first post ask for some background about a gentleman I had never heard of (Tim). Your first reply (And others) was meant as nothing more than a attempt to be-little me and didn't even make an attempt to answer my question.,, "While we are at it......I think Tim's hat is crooked......can we not get a better pic??" Then when I call you on it,, you say "Also....before you play a statement off as arrogance, you should know the person well enough to put that tag on them. Making a rash ASSumption by a random post on a fly fishing message board seems a bit closed minded.......that's just my opinion. Zack Hoyt There is no need in wasting my time going back into your post history. The first reply's you gave in this thread says it all. If you can't see that then anymore would be a waist of my time. You are right about one thing though. I don't know you or OTF or CGB. But, I do know arrogance and better than thou attitudes when I see it and as I said before, that kind of attitudes will keep GOOD people away from this forum and programs like Al and Tim are trying to to together.
-
Pm received, On the public forum you imply I am an butt-(sumption) and call me close minded, yet in a PM you actually show a little civility. That in it's self says something. I'm sure what ever needs to be said can be said publicly. .
-
Nope. Not offended. As much as you and OTF try, I'm not offended. Just disgusted and repulsed. Yes, you did try to answer my credential question, but, it was so rapped up in judgmental high mindedness,it was hard to pick out. Fact is, there are allot of people that wont post on this forum because of the High Horse cavalry,,,, Chief. When I started this thread I thought the program sounded like a good thing. Something I may be interested in. so I asked a few questions. You and OTF have changed my mind. Thanks for saving my time and gas money.
-
""Sarcasm is intellect on the offensive.""" Think about it,,, you just admitted you were trying to be offensive. I have read your past posts. I tag them as I see them. Even if you can't see it, you wear that tag like a badge of honor. If you represent the type that are going to attend the program, then I don't think attendance will be very high. How is that supposed to help Tim? Or this forum?
-
I gotta apologize for my comments earlier. It was very out of character for me. I'm trying to stop smoking, the wife is going through menopause, The neighbor kicked my dog, and I can come up with a few other excuses too. It wont happen again. ============================= Yes cricket, I was fippin you off. That's what you get for kicking my dog. Just kidding bro. Nuthin but love bro, nuthin but love!
-
I am VERY interested in the subject and now I find myself with enough time and $ on my hands to pursue it. I would like to meet Tim and chat with him face to face before I make the commitment to go to the program. Where is his store? I still giggle a little when I look at that picture of the spot. Don't get me wrong, It is a fine picture, just a little out of place, lol. As far as some of the comments earlier in this post, It's hard for me to put up with arrogance. I'm sure those who were being just that, have no clue. Maybe I'm just getting to old to put with stupidity. You seem to be a nice gentleman. Thank you for your respectful and informative reply.
-
Ozark Trout Fisher - I believe your right, I see a spot, and yes It is a perty pic. I guess my questions were over your head? Chief Grey Bear - As a matter of fact if I am going to take the time to go the program, then yes, his credentials do make a difference. If I want some off the shelf tips I'll ask the guy in the John Deer ball cap that hangs out in the wally world fishing isle. If I'm going to burn the gas I want to make sure the guy knows what he's talking about. I'm probably not the only one in the world that hasn't heard of Tim. I just wanted a little background info on his expertize in the field before I waist my time driving all the way to Springfield. From what everyone is saying, he knows what he is talking about and he is a nice guy. That's what I wanted to know. You'll excuse me if my boldness offended you. Buzz - Thank you for your input. And thank you for answering one of my questions. KCRIVERRAT - Thanks to you I now know Tim owns a fly shop and he is the type to honestly answer questions. Thanks for the input. Smallmouthjoe - Do what? lol Zack Hoyt- Did you have to practice that sarcasm or were you born with that disability? I think your John Deer ball cap is a little tight. Of course,, that's just my opinion. I really didn't mean to step on any toes in this post (that didn't step on mine first). I asked a simple question and pointed out a small foe pa in the picture. I was just trying to get a little background info. I'm not sure if I'll be going to the program now.

UUummm ,, on the new banner at the top of this page I see Al Agnew is putting on a spring program for river small-mouths, but, in the picture it shows a large-mouth. Is this just a ,,, OOOpppps moment? Am I the only one that noticed this? And while I'm on the subject, who is Tim Homesley ? That is to say,, what is his credentials?

I got into the habit of using turkey livers instead of chicken livers because they are a little tougher than chicken. Either way, get them as fresh as possible. They both get mushy if they aren't fresh. Also, running the shaft of the treble hook through the liver helps too. (as mentioned earlier) I have found that cats mouths are very sensitive and although putting the liver in panty hose and such is great for keeping the liver on the hook, I always got less hookups because the cat would spit it out. Also, never put anything else on the line besides hook and liver. Don't put any lead weights on the line. If the cat feels ANY tension on the line, he'll spit it out, TO THAT END I always set the pole down (not holding onto it) and open the bail then run the line under a small pebble. That way the cat wont feel ANY tension on the line and hold onto the bait longer. When you see the line come out from under the pebble, close the bail and set the hook. Hope this helps.

Well, if you take into consideration that with a float tube a person can walk through shallow water (up to 3-4 foot deep)rather than forced to float though them, then one can say it is more controllable than even a boat. In my mind if you float through fast moving shallow water, then your just asking for the end of a log shoved up your,,,, tube. I agree that you can not make snap adjustments in fast water but 90% of the time fast water is shallow enough to wade. That is another reason I like the paddle pushers (The fins set off to the side of the foot) instead of swim fins. It makes it ALLOT easier to wade and fish forward rather than backwards. I actually find myself more comfortable in the rapids rather than slow eddies. Besides, that's usually where I catch more fish. I guess it takes a little more common sense to float tube moving water,,, as you all know, common sense isn't so common any more. I Too don't like the bigger water. In rivers like the mid to lower Gasconade (32HWY down)The water in the riffles can get deep and dangerous. But in the smaller rivers like the Niagua and Osage fork the riffles are very wade-able. If you try to take a canoe or jon boat on smaller rivers you'll be dragging the boat anyways. I've never used a outfitter so I'm not sure what kind of tube they offer. In my mind I see them renting regular inner tubes for tourists who like to float just for the float rather than fish. If you've ever tried to fish out of an inner tube that doesn't have a seat then you know what I mean when I say it is kind of a silly way to fish. Actually there are different types of tubes with seats that keep you higher out of the water. I personally like the round tubes that set a person low in the water because it makes it easier to walk/wade and if you use suspenders connected to the tube, the tube isn't around your feet when you walk on land. I have a second tube that is "V" shaped and you set a little higher but you can still wade without much problem. I just bought a tube that has 2 tubes set up like a pontoon. You set allot higher out of the water. I haven't had a chance to try it out in the river but it seems like it would be better for still water. It also has a place on it where you can put a flag so boaters can see you. I'm sorry but I'd rather not be in a tube where there are speed boats like LOZ. Flag or not. My luck the wind would blow my fat butt out into the middle. Instant speed bump. I guess this come back to my original question,, does anyone else on this forum use float tubes in the rivers in mid mo?
-
I have been float tubing the rivers and ponds around this area ever since I figured out how to tie 2 ropes across the center of a tire tube. Yes, there have been a few curious snakes and the thought of putting a foot into a turtles mouth is allways in the back of my mind, but, the pay off of being able to fish where you can't wade and go where most boats can't, is a great pay off. In all the new float tubes I've bought the instructions say (yes I read the instructions,, most of the time)"Do not use in a current". Ok, I understand there is a reason why they put "Not to be used orally" on Preparation H but, It's hard for me to see why they put "do not use in a current" on a float tube. Common sense says you stay away from snags and logs in fast water just like you would in a small boat. Am I the only Hillbilly crazy enough to float tube the rivers around here or are there others that are as crazy,,, eerr,, I mean,, as dedicated as me ? (come to think of it I haven't ever seen others in float tubes when I'm on the river ,, aa ooooo,,I'm having a self conscientious moment ,,, FLY CHECK !)

Wednesday - Floated the Niagua river from the BSSP to the last boat launch after the 64 bridge in my float tube. Did quite well on smallies and larg trout. The trout were tail dancing all day. They were both loving a small jig with the shimmy shad body fished on the bottom cross current letting it bounce off rocks. Weather was cool but Beautiful. Thursday - Got in 18 holes at the Lebanon CC. Shot a 90. They stop the winter rates soon so I figured I'd better git it in now. A warmer day than Wednesday. Friday - Put the bass boat in at day break on the LOZ. Caught nothing but small ones till about 4:30 then started catching bass off of rocky points with spinner baits and rattle traps. The water was real low but slightly clear. Even warmer day than Thursday. The sun felt especially good. Saturday - Recuperated from the last 3 days,,, standing at my front door watching it sleet/snow,, remembering how nice it is to be able to get out all week instead of standing in front of a 500 ton Brake Press machine all night (3rd shift for ?? yrs) taking "guff" from the boss. I find it hard to complain. .

-UPDATE- The first line in this thread reads "They don't make them anymore". I was wrong. They are still made by " Fishmaster Mfg. Company" in Oklahoma. You can find the whole address and phone number earlier in this thread. They are actually called "Paddle Pushers" I'm a happy camper now. By the way, I have 2 float tubs and know of allot of places to use them. The invitation is still open if anyone wants to take a float. Just PM me.

Very informative post Chris. Thank you. (I had no Idea PDT had smallies)
