  1. With all the development around this area, I'm not sure ANY waters are safe to eat fish out of...
  2. "Honorable?" We ARE talking the same "Brian Wise" here, right? JUST kiddin' Brian... Have a great birthday! Hope you get to spend part of it fishing... YOU fishing and not a client. Hope to get to fish with you soon!
  3. Welcome to the forum. Not many of the members here would be in the SW Arkansas area and just a few from Ft Smith and north. So you might not get many reports from the area you are talking. Maybe north of Ft Smith... If you want to take the drive to Beaver Lake or Beaver tailwaters, there are several on here that can help you out...
  4. Welcome to the forum. We'll be anxious to hear how you do on TRL...
  5. My cousin lives in Darien. My uncle lives in Savannah, GA... My cousin is actually an investor in the new airport they are SUPPOSE to build in Branson. Maybe he'll come down to check up on things and I can show him Leonard and DuckyD's honey holes....
  6. Don't ask me... I'm 0 for 1 at RR...
  7. Ham... I agree... they are a lot cheaper at Price Cutter... and you don't have to mess with pluckin' the feathers! But I do like to hunt the critters and hear 'em gobble back at me when they think I'm a beautiful amorous hen... And, I agree to an extent about the tax vs. license fees. Dano driving from Harrison to Taney once a month vs. a group of (insert wealthy type persons here) coming down for a few days fishing are two TOTALLY different things. The same goes for me when I go to Arkansas to hunt on the land that I own and my wife grew up on. It ain't fair... but my daddy always told me life was not fair... And Dano.... Ssshhhhhh about the driver's license....
  8. Welcome to the forum, Kano. I would love to fish your part of the world sometime. My cousin lives in CT and I would love to get him and my uncle down here on some big ol' browns... See ya on Taney!!
  9. Geez, DuckyD... MacGyver can take a foot of waxed dental floss and blow up three buildings, escape from a terrorist prison, start a Lear jet, parachute into a New York apartment, cook a seven course gourmet meal, floss his teeth afterwards, tie said fly, and use what's left of the floss for tippet material to land a 20 lb brown with his big toe... Of course, I could too if I wanted to... He DOES use the mint scented/flavored floss, right?
  10. It's a pretty sad tale when those who have travelled far to fish there for years are starting to look for other places to go due to the decline they have seen in the fishery... I've heard the same tale from several long-time lovers of the White and Norfork. Honestly, I realize it is a two-edged sword, but I think more of you guys who guide need to start speaking out as bluntly as Davy... and doing it more publicly... Not to say any particular one has or has not... I just would think it would be more "valuable" if a "bunch" of White River system guides along with resort owners and others who make their living from these trout would speak publicly about the demise of the fishery. Of course, that comes from someone who does not make his living guiding on the river... So take my opinion for what it's worth... and that ain't much...
  11. You have about ten rods and $1,400 worth of tying material - not equipmet or hooks - just material... to catch up with SOME of us... not to mention any names (You KNOW who you are...) Welcome to the forum, Jody. And welcome to fly fishing and tying. We all started with a couple of rods and a $100 worth of fly tying material... I just hope you have a couple million laid back somewhere to feed your new habit... Lots of good guys with good advice for you here...
  12. Yeah... maybe you danged ol' Arkies will stay out of my way on Taney now... (Disclaimer - This is intended for Dano from a "former" Arkie...) Oh, man... I just thought. I told russ and CC I'd be coming down soon to fish the Spring... that means I gotta buy a non-res license!!! What was I thinkin' when I moved up here?
  13. Yeah, Shawncat, you should be very careful... If you open those posts wrong, your computer will be inundated with naughty pictures, offers for adult toys, and you will receive thousands of emails for more of the same at discount prices.... You'll also receive hundreds of emails from desperate women seeking men to fulfill their dreams. Then you will set up a meeting with one of them at a cheap motel who turns out to be a 6' 6" guy just out of prison named "Dawg." Then your wife will find all this, become extremely angry, leave you, take your brand new pickup, your house, furniture, and clean out your bank account, then demand another year's salary or more... and get it! You'll wind up living in a van... down by the river! Or so I'm told.... Now... seriously.... good for you, Phil. Thanks for taking on the extra work.
  14. I will verify that from the presentation by an AGFC biologist I attended, this is exactly the case presented. However, as an old statistics guy for more than 25 years, I can also affirm the old statistician's saying, "Tortured statistics will confess anything..." I agree, John... The big loser here will be the Brookies...
  15. There are a couple of things to take into consideration when talking colors for "scuds".... Number one, are you wanting to mimmick the scuds the trout are eating or number two, do you want the fish to just bite? For number 2, black or any other color might work depending on what the fish sees. Did the fish you caught on your black scud bite for the heck of it? No, they bit because they "thought" they saw food... scud, pellet, sowbug, or whatever morsal they thought it was... Now, to actually mimmick scuds in the stream, you want to stick with something in the olive, tan, gray, and even a bit of orange in your tying. A year or so ago, there were a couple of good articles and even some discussion on a couple of forums I belong to about the color of scuds during their life cycle. The overwhelming concensus was that those four colors were the way to go to mimmick scuds. Next time you wade for any length of time, check your gravel guards periodically and see if any scuds have hitched a ride. Most of the time, these will be something in an olive or gray color and wiggling. When scuds are dying, they tend to take on more of the tan color and when they die, they tend to wind up with an orange tone to them. Also, if you look at some of the aquatic insects that hitch a ride on your waders other than the scuds, you will find some "similar" looking (in profile) bugs that are black and gray. The bottom line is that color can and does make a difference in certain situations. If you want the fish to bite, you have to throw something at them that appears to them to be a bite of food.... whatever color it is...
  16. Hmmmm.... De ja vu all over again....
  17. Welcome to the forum....
  18. Welcome to the forum...
  19. I WANT to, but ain't gonna happen.. Good luck and remember your camera!!
  20. Yeah, but now MrD is talking about feeling bad this morning... Hope you keep him well, MrsD and can make it...
  21. The rain has stopped in Springfield, but the temp is going down and it's starting to freeze. They are salting the parking lot here and I don't look forward to the drive home. And it's not suppose to get any warmer anytime soon... Hey John... Get some safety pins and put on some gym shorts over those jeans. Nobody will notice under those waders.... That is, unless the zipper breaking is like me - due to an excess of sweets and other great food from the week before Halloween and continuing for a couple of weeks after Valentine's Day....
  22. Steve, You are absolutely right. It is difficult at best to articulate in the written word the emotions that go along with what you are trying to say. That's one reason I use emoticons to give some idea that I'm kidding, serious, or whatever. I also try to re-read what I've typed before posting just to get an idea how it MIGHT sound compared to how I WANT it to sound. As well, I will read someone else's post twice if I feel my feathers ruffled. I TRY to put a positive spin on it, but sometimes it still doesn't come across that way. However, my reply (I hope) will be as tactful as possible with maybe even a hint of humor to lighten things a bit. Don, After a couple cups of coffee with a bit of Irish Creamer and while finishing my - uh - well, let's just say "last" margarita last night, I noticed the two-heaeded kangaroo was in Nixa... being chased by the Taneycomo Squid and three drunk monkeys... Not sure how that came out, but apparently KY3 missed the whole thing...
  23. Hey Don... Happy Birthday, bud... Go fishin'!!... Better go today... Your sweetie might not like it if you go tomorrow!!
  24. Uh... why... uh... NO... what ever gave you THAT idea? We're talkin' about fishin' for creek chubs... yeah... that's it... creek chubs... that's the ticket... with my wife... Mon---uh... Morgan Fairchild... WHOM I've seen naked! (Ssshhhhh, Pat... don't tell him and Duckydoty...) COME ON SPRING!!
  25. I HATE when that happens! It's like the other night. I'm in the attic and I got a bunch o' mousetraps, ya know? And, for bait, I used a big piece of, uh-- cheese... Right? So, so I set the trap, right? A-a-a-a-and I wanna see if the trap was gonna work, right? So I got the cheese in there. But every time I went to taste the cheese, the thing came down right on my tongue! ... I'm tellin' ya -- after forty, fifty times, I - I - I couldn't even feel the cheese, much less taste it. I hate when THAT happens, I'll tell ya that.
