  8. "...or other food substance..." is the catch-all part of the phrasing that allows some subjectivity to be used. I'm no attorney either, (but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express one time) but I don't think I would want to try to stir this up with MDC by fishing it on the upper end of Taney. Maybe you could argue your way out of it, but unless MDC says specifically it would be OK, I ain't buyin'... Good looking fly and I'll have to try it myself. Just not there...
  9. This is from Dennis "Bear" Reed: This fly plate contains approximately two dozen flies tied by some of the greatest tyers in the world. Each tyer was asked to tie a fly in the CFR colors. Steve Jensen designed and created the fly plate. It is being auctioned off on this web site with all proceeds being donated to CFR. The current high bid is $500. I will try to update this every day. The auction will run until the first weekend of October. Contact me to make a bid or for any questions you may have.. You can contact Bear at wildbearflies@gmail.com
  10. We got a great meal with all the trimmings (lunch) for $20 including the tip... Now the dinner menu might be a little higher... But the food is worth it...
  11. Recently, a rare occasion of my lovely wife and I being off on the same day without a teenager in the house prompted us to find a nice spot to have lunch. We moved to Nixa three years ago and have driven by Chez Robert's numerous times promising to try it out. Well, this was the day we decided to take the plunge. All I can say is GREAT!!! The restaurant is located on 14/Mt Vernon across from Sonic. It is in an old house that has been renovated. Now I'm not a big fan of atmosphere, but this does have a nice one. Your wife or SO will love it. Several rooms are set up for dining. Since it was lunch, it was the Melinda's Tea Room menu we got to choose from. It is made up of soups, sandwiches, wraps, and salads. I ordered a wrap while my wife ordered a sandwich. Both came with tea, a side (potato salad, chips, or pasta salad) and the soup. Soon we had a "mug" of bacon potato soup that was hot, fresh, and homemade. Some of the BEST potato soup I've ever had. Our order was a bit slow arriving, but mind you we had come after the lunch rush. My wrap had angel hair pasta as an ingrediant, and they informed me that it would be a bit due to the fact that they had run out of cooked pasta and had to boil another batch. Well, it was certainly worth the wait. The pasta salad was not from a bucket ro a box, and the wrap was very fresh and very VERY tasty. When done, we were both full and could not try the wonderful looking cakes or cookies that were on display. These are also made from scratch by Robert (or so I was told.) But we will have to go back and save room for them next time. And that next time will be soon. So, if you're looking for somewhere to take your wife or girlfriend for a nice romantic lunch or dinner that will be a treat to her, I recommend you try this little place and see if she's not impressed with your taste...
  12. I wonder if you can get them in Cuban Cohibas?
  13. I once knew a bookie who HAD PMS... but never knew one who TOOK PMS... Then again, maybe this bookie took LESSONS on PMS. Kewl pheesh...!!
  14. It don't get no better'n that...
  15. Corky, You need to get with the Fort Smith Fly Fishers club. Danny Lynch 12 Brentwood Ct., Ft. Smith, AR 72908 Email: xs8444@ipa.net Phone: (501) 646-1054 Meetings: 6:30 pm on the second Monday of each month in building 1627, Ft. Chaffee, AR You can learn a lot from those guys including casting. I'm not sure about the local fly shops. May have to head up to Eureka Springs, Tallequah, or down to the Narrows... But the FSFF guys can give you better info... They would be glad to have you attend a meeting and be glad to give you a casting lesson.
  16. The Crosswater is a good line for beginners on a budget. You can get a full setup - rod, reel, line - for a good price. However, I would opt, if possible, to go up a notch or two and look at the Red-2-fly seris and the RS4 series, which will be better rods. Again, the best thing is to go do some casting of these rods.
  17. Hey if you like Simms clothing, Michael has a sale going on at Backcountry Outfitters this week. All Simms Base Layer 40% off including Wader Wick Crew Top and Bottom and Rivertek Zip Top and Bottom. So if you're in Springfield, you might want to stop by and check it out!
  18. Reels? Lamson Konic... You won't be sorry... Affordable and good workings. Better reels out there, but in my opinion, not for the money. Lines.... RIO all the way, bay-bee.... Nuttin' but RIO.... SA a fairly close second.
  19. I think we should have a complaint department designated for this forum. Any complaints should be addressed to that user... I have the perfect person for the job.... Her name is Helen Wate... If you have a complaint about fishing reports or accomodations.... Take them to Helen Wate...
  20. First welcome to you new found passion... and it will become one. As for rigging up, I will recommend that if you can get to one, go to a local fly shop and get some casting lessons/pointers then cast a few rods. Almost every rod manufacturer out there has a "beginner's line" of rods. Redington is a good way to go as is TFO. Bass Pro and Cabela's are OK, but you order it unseen and untested by the hands that will cast them. And from all experiences and conversations, one man will put brand A or model A in his hands and think it's a POS and the next guy will think it's the sweetest rod ever. But it's what YOU like that will make a difference. My wife had her first casting lesson less than a year ago. Never had a fly rod in her hands before. She got a lesson with a TFO rod then Tim Rajeff gave her a lesson with an Echo of his. I took her to the fly shop here and she cast a Redington and a TFO. She kept saying she liked the Echo much better. Even she could tell the difference. But, I didn't like the Echo as much as I did the the Redington. Differences in feel and taste. So... The best advice I can give you is to try a few brands and models out before you decide. You'll thank me in the long run....
  21. Carp feed a lot on plant material and especially things like moss, fuzzy seeds, grains, etc. I've seen flies tied with olive green disco yarn from WalMart that was a carp catching fool at times. Big puffs of white are also good since they like Cottonwood seeds.
  22. Waking up early to the sound of rain was not a good omen, but I managed to let the killer Yorkies out for their morning lawn watering and fertilization along with the newets edition to the family - Maggie, the ear-draggin'-the-ground Basset. I took a look at the radar while having my first cup of coffee. I decided there was time to fix a little breakfast and relax before heading out. Lightening is not my favorite fishing partner. I did make it around 10:30 and the omens got worse. Dragging all my gear out of the bag, I noticed it seemed to be lighter, or I seemed to be stronger for some reason. It turns out I have not been doing curls and bench presses in my sleep, but had taken my wading boots out of the bag and forgot to put them back. Oh well, at least it's warm enough that wet wading was not out of the question. I decided to try a red Zebra Midge first and made a couple of casts at about 24-28 inches below the indicator just below Snaglet 1. I noticed several fish close to me scanning the area at a much shallower depth, so I moved the indicator to a 14-16 inch range to see what would happen. First cast and BOOM.... a nice silver bullet buried my indicator. He did a number on the fly, so I had to trade for another one and there must have been something about the first one, because the fish snubbed that one for a while. Picked up a few, but decided to try some streamer fishing. After a long period of no luck with the streamer (water was not cooperating as I was not out far enough to get a drift) I switched back to midge fishing and picked up a couple more fish. Finally, I kept seeing fish feeding on the surface and tied on a hopper pattern. Picked up a few nice fish with it and had one really nice bow that kept going for it (even jumped straight over it once) time and again, but never could nail him. Later, Leonard came by and we talked for a bit but the fish had pretty much shut down. So I left about 2:30 having picked up enough fish to keep me coming back, but not anything to write home about. Oh... yeah, it was a little crowded, but not so much you couldn't find a nice place to fish. Of course, I did have one guy come up behind me and stand 15 feet away trying to fish the outlet. Such is Taney...
  23. Big furry flies.... especially green.
  24. White, pink, yellow maribou jigs if you're spin fishing... Small... like 1/64th or smaller... Drift under an indicator... I mean bobber...
