Hey Phil, how much is Glade, Oust, and Lysol air cleaner in Alaska? Thank goodness you did before you came back... I bet Kristina is glad, too... A-VAILABLE at... BACKCOUNTRY OUTFITTERS!!! Your PREMEIRE fly fishing headquarters in Springfield, MO.... JUST half a block north of Battlefield on Campbell between Fuji Japanese Steakhouse and Mexican Villa... That's BACKCOUNTRY OUTFITTERS... For all your fly fishing needs.... (Insert tons of indiscriminate disclaiming lawyer talk here...) WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT..... WAIT just a DOGGONE minute.... I just took a good look at the pictures in this thread... There is food on the table and Michael is just STANDING AROUND... There are bears crossing the road, the rest of the crew is on the ground watching them while MICHAEL IS IN THE PICKUP ON TOP OF THE CAB taking pictures... Michael has a bent rod in his hand, but it oddly enough looks exactly like DUCKYDOTY'S fly rod..... And God help us all if that's Michael in the PILOT'S SEAT!!!!!!

Well, 25 miles might be a little tight in some cases... especially if you are talking trout. But, the Spring River out of Mammoth Spring, AR is about an hour from Gene's and no generation to worry about. Also, you might consider the North Fork of the White... Brian Wise can clue you in on what's going on there. But, if you are not set on trout, there are a lot of smallmouth opportunities in the area... Crooked Creek, Myatt Creek, South Fork of the Sping River, Buffalo River... all within easy reach of Gene's. There are quite a few more places. I'll bet the folks at Gene's can give you a head's up on current fishing in some of those streams...

The answer is YES..... to all those questions... Well, as for the trees, a LOT may not be exactly right... That'll pretty much do it... You might tie some patterns with flourecent color (neon green is good) ice dubbing with a maribou tail and a bead or dumbell head. I wouldn't go without a few hopper patterns as well. Might be too cold, but then again might not... you never know...

Extreme Sight Fishing - Lucky Catch

Yeah, they said the guy was OK until the fishereman skinned and gutted him... -
(In my best "Hans ans Franz" voice) Ya... you all are "girly men"... ya... and we're gonna crush you like a stewed tomato... ya.... like a little girly grape we're gonna crush you.... ya.... Cuz we're here to PUMP (clap) YOU UP!!!!! Glad you're OK.... Too bad the video camera wasn't rolling.... Does the Simms guarantee cover brown and yellow stains?

Yep.... best bluegill fishing just about anywhere. And the Crappie fishing can rival Kentucky or Reelfoot at times. If you want to bass fish, I would take the half hour to the Arkansas River on either side of Murray L&D (several tournaments have taken place there) or ride up 65 to Greers Ferry Lake. You'll fish in Larry Nixon's back yard... LOL

JD, You mean someone who does stuff like this? Big Dave's Woodwork click here This guys work is really neat. Just look at the staircases. One of the rustic shelves job is at a BBQ place here in Nixa. It is really neat work. Good idea. I bought some "junk" lumber at a yard sale and may do something with it. I thought when I saw the box, it was chipboard, but turned out to be solid with plastic vaneer. I'm going to plane it and do something with it. Got quite a bit of lumber for $5... -
I think I would go buy a portable DVD player instead. But is there not a power supply with the laptop? That should give you information you need. Should be printed right on the black box.

I heard a vicious rumor that with Michael in Alaska that there is a big sale going on at Backcountry Outfitters... Up to 80 pct off everything in the store! Be sure to tell Michael about the post when you see him, Phil.... Has he actually done any work yet or just fishing to relieve the jet lag?

People With No Respect For Others.
Terry Beeson replied to Trout Stalker's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
I think the nail has been hit on the head. Many people have no idea about walking behind someone while casting. My wife doesn't fly fish, and she's done it a couple of times, once at Bennett, until I told her it was not only rude, but a bit dangerous unless she wanted another piercing.... The other part is why I'm not into fishing the parks during the summer. There is enough of that on Taney, BS tailwaters, Norfork tailwaters, and the Spring River... -

Thom, The strip on the left with the holes will have 3/8" dowels in them about 5 inches long for thread. And yes, I used Forstner bits except for the bigger holes in the back. I need to add a couple of sizes to my collection. Then I can use my spade bits for sinkers... This one is SOLID cedar and Titebond with the exception of the dowels. There are no screws, nails, or anything else, unless you count the felt I'll put on the bottom just before shipping. John, Good little boys don't lie about being good little boys.... I enjoy making these and wish I had more time to make them. I have the one for Conclave to finish and then need to find a good source for wood. I like working with cedar, but I'm ready to make an oak, maple, walnut, or other species. I'd like to try Aspen just to see how it would hold up. I think it would be a nice "rustic western" look. -
Conclave Setup Crew Needed
Terry Beeson replied to Terry Beeson's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
Brian, It is the first weekend in October. Our very own Michael Kyle is the Conclave chair this year and he has quite an event in the works. Conclave is more than just a big fishing show. It is the premier fly fishing event for this area of the country. As one fellow put it, "you can learn more in three days at Conclave than you can in three years of fishing." You will meet new people who share your passion for fly fishing. You will see hundreds of the country's (and even the world's) best fly tiers in one room, several of whom frequent this forum. For $15, you can sit with Kelly Galloup and tie flies for two hours and go home with probably more than the $15 worth of fly tying material (thank you Wapsi.) That's no typo... I said FIFTEEN DOLLARS! A two hour fly casting instruction with Mel Krieger. You can meet, talk with, and get great fishing and tying advice from the likes of Dave Whitlock, Davy Wotton, John Berry, John Wilson, Terry and Roxanne Wilson, Sister Carol Anne Corley (the fly tying nun), (geez, this list could take up most of Phil's drive space...) You can win prizes, bid on items in the silent and live auction. You can learn fishing techniques like nymphing and Czech nymphing from John Wilson. You can cast some of the latest rods from different companies like Sage, G Loomis, TFO... You can buy fly tying and fishing equipment at very good prices. You can volunteer and help teach kids how to fly fish and then take them to Dry Run Creek and watch their big smiles when they land a big 'Bow or Brown. You can cast some of the finest bamboo rods on the planet. You can even meet Phil!! Oh... and did I mention it's in Mountain Home, AR where you can slip away for a couple of hours on the Bull Shoals or Norfork tailwaters with one or several of the guys? And I should mention the Welcome Party on Thursday night where you can get some pretty doggone good eats... Oh... and did I forget to mention you can help me with the setup and take down of the show? Yeah, it's sort of a big fishing show, but with a very very friendly atmosphere. I wouldn't miss it for the world.... Click here for a full schedule of the events... -

Zach, You have to be a GOOD BOY to get one from Santa... JD, The two sides have removeable partitions, so you can take them out and use them for material or whatever. The main idea is to put things like bottles of head cement and other stuff. The cedar was some I purchased several years ago at a flea market. But I found some more on craigslist.com here in the area. Now I need a planer... it's rough cut.... (yeah, I want Santa to bring me a planer.... and I've been a GOOD boy...) -
This one already has a home. Just have to put the felt on the bottom and let the finish dry a couple of days. There will be a similar one up for auction at the Conclave in October. Don't miss it!!!

I have volunteered to be this year's facility chair for Conclave. I will be the one overseeing the set up for the show, tiers, presentations, etc. at the fairgrounds. Since I've not done this one before, I'm asking - ok, BEGGING - for any and all help doing this. Set up will begin Thursday morning early to get the tables, chairs, and everything else ready for the day. Then Saturday afternoon, we will need to convert the big room into the auction room. Then Sunday morning, take everything down and put it away. Any of you who can help with any of this - Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday - will be greatly appreciated. This is gearing up to be a really really great conclave... You don't want to miss it.

I downloaded T-bird and tried to set up my hotmail account in it. Well, that was a bust. I didn't take a lot of time to tweak it, but I know Outlook was easier to setup. I guess I could call the helpdesk at work, huh, Web?

I Got Someone In Trouble Today.
Terry Beeson replied to Chief Grey Bear's topic in General Angling Discussion
Just to clarify my position, I in no way disagree with what you did, Chief. I merely said that I have a hard time standing up and cheering knowing that I have done something similar in the past - including duck hunts which are pretty doggone difficult to be sure who took a duck down at times with seven hunters blasting at incoming Mallards. The circumstances as I see them in your case were well outside the limits of the law (no pun intended.) You did the right thing. And as I said, I don't think I would have a problem with a couple walking out with their limit of fish. But it is clear these folks violated the regulations. So, yes, you did the right thing. And I think you will find that my values are very much more to the right than you may realize. -
Recipes For Homemade Trout Bait?

Bman, In your defense... I got your "biting tongue" joke right off the bat. And found it quite amusing. And I'm a charter member of the "DBHC"... Actually, while I don't subscribe to certain techniques and will try to sway you from "the dark side" of fishing, if it's legal, I ain't got a problem with it. Wheaties and strawberry pop.... Now excuse me while I go tie up a few powerbait infused flies... -
I Got Someone In Trouble Today.
Terry Beeson replied to Chief Grey Bear's topic in General Angling Discussion
I can't say I'm pumping my fist or anything over this, but I have that "cast the first stone" syndrome. I will admit to fishing from the dock on a lake overpopulated with Crappie, having good luck while the only other fisherman there could catch nothing but small bluegill. I knew she was not going to waste the food and the local wardens had both confided in me that the lake was TOO full of Crappie (and they drained that lake a year later to reduce the population.) So, I intentinally slipped a limit of nice slabs into her 5 gallon bucket before completing my limit. However, you did the right thing. I agree that there is a need to crack down on poaching. I'm not sure I would be offended if the couple had walked out with eight fish, though, even if he had caught the majority. Now if they came back later with clean stringers and buckets, I'd have a big problem. But, regulations are regulations... Don't feel bad about what you did.
