C And R Opener At Roaring River
Terry Beeson replied to Danoinark's topic in General Angling Discussion
It was good meeting some of you and seeing all of you yesterday. Breakfast was GREAT as was lunch. And the fishing made it all even better. I took about 15 or so to hand. Yep Dano... you're right... That fish went 20... (uh... centimeters...) My fish of the day went 41... cm... or about 16 inches. After the first cast of the day, I was wishing I had my fly box that I lost with some cracklebacks in it... I'm thinking they would have been killer. But didn't see anyone fishing them. We did discover a phenomenon... The fish in the picture was deemed a "walking rainbow trout"... He had an SJW in his tail that I wanted to remove for him... (no, I didn't foul hook him... he already had the fly in his tail.) He resisted my efforts by jumping out of my hands and "walking" (wiggling) his way up the bank with me in hot pursuit... I hated he did this and he did swim away seemingly no worse for the wear. I hope another gets to catch him later. -
Mr. B And Hendrix Outdoor Rods
Terry Beeson replied to Danoinark's topic in General Angling Discussion
Thanks Dano... Glad you liked them. Gavin, I'll be at the Fowkes Backcountry Outfitters Christmas party in Springfield that day or I would love to come up and do just that. I've had a few failed attempts to get an appointment with Tom up there, but I hope to get in before spring for sure. Any of you around Springfield that want to try out some of the Hendrix stuff, as I said, BCO on December 4th. I should have our new line of rods for you to check out as well!! -
That's why it took me so long to post this... The box is great... The flies... well... uh...

Scott's Brown At Roaring River
Terry Beeson replied to brother dave's topic in Roaring River State Park
Nice pheesh! Saw several good fish, but that's the biggun for the day so far... -
OK... I joined the club... Apparently, I left a C&F fly box full of flies at Taney a couple of weeks ago. I was parked down by outlet 1 and must have dropped it somewhere between the access and my truck. A stretch at the least, but I thought MAYBE someone found it and will let me know. I just figured out I lost it due to not going fishing for a couple of weeks. I need to call the hatchery to see if they had one turned in... By the way... if someone found it, they got a lot of junky flies...

Momma said don't go near that river... Don't be hangin' 'round ol' Catfish John... Welcome to the forum, CJ...

It takes me that long to get the lead tape to look that good...

Dennis, I will echo what you say about Davie's videos. It's a pleasure listening to him with his accent and I am certainly with you on the "simple, yet complex" comment about his techniques. He makes it look so easy sometimes, but when I try it, it does not come out quite the same... Practice, practice, practice... Yes, I agree... If you have not watched some of his videos, go to youtube and search for Davie McPhail...

As this is Veteran's Day, I think it would be nice to say a hearty "THANK YOU!!!!" to those on this forum who served in the military. I never served, but have a great respect for those who did and especially those who saw combat. So thank you very much for your service. That's a mere snowflake on the iceberg of thanks you deserve. So, if you served, could you let us know who we are thanking by replying to this post with a bit of info? What branch? When? Where did you serve? Your "job" there? Of course this is optional, but at least let us know you served.

Ah... again, you mis-interpret my meaning. Number one, I did say that it was a shame that the White was altered. However, there was a great benefit to the dams being built and we should at least acknowledge that. Plus, at the time, as I understand it, this was to do away with the need for coal fire plants and other fossil fuel energy sources, but that was axed when the public began to object to damming up the streams (which was probably the best thing to do... well, it WAS in my opinion the best. Especially in hind site.) And my reference to windmills and solar panels strike me as funny that you guys would all say that you are OK with that. Obviously, you think they would just put them in the middle of the woods. I've seen some really large wind farms in California and they did nothing to enhance the wilderness there and did "destroy" the land where they were erected. Many people complain because it ruins the natural view and ruined the land. But I suppose since it would not hurt the fishing, it would be fine... Maybe we should just all cut the wires to our homes and park our vehicles... Who's first?
-
I disagree Eric... I think the majority of those views are from you and me... Oh wait... that was personal... but not really an attack, right? OK... So... Wayne... Good example on the Osage. Anyone volunteer for that trip? Keep us informed!!!

Only if you wear pink camo waders, Brian.... Anyone seen the pink canoe at NRO on the Niangua? Apparently there are a few support groups for breast cancer that need to get together... There is a canoe float club, then Casting for Recovery, and I'm sure others. What could we do if they all banded together? Cast and blast down the river? I just "liked" on Facebook... Hope to see ya'll there!!!

I suppose if we were able to have an internet forum for the inhabitants of this continent in the 1500s and later, we would probably be reading similar posts. I suppose that's true of those who lived here prior to the homesteading of this part of the country. The dams being put in place for land development is a stretch. I personally know that some advantage was taken when the interstate highway system was being developed. Land was purchased by individuals years before the interstate was built, and funny thing is, most of these who became owners of the land where the interstate was built were politicians or political contributors. I'm certain the same thing happened with the dam system. But damming the streams was primarily for flood control with the benefit of bringing electricity to very rural areas. I'd like to go back and find out the statistics TJ quoted for the 40s, 50s, and even the 60s before the population of the area grew. Another benefit was employment of the locals who got good paying jobs constructing the dams. I'd like to hear from some of them as well. Then there is the continuing boost to the local economy that can be attributed to the dams being in place. Yes, it's a shame that the White is not what it use to be. Same goes for many streams. I'm so glad that the Buffalo River in Arkansas is designated a NATIONAL river and therefore will (or should) never undergo such a transformation. But at the same time, I think the dams were a good thing when they were built. I'm glad we still use a source of non-fossil fuel generation of electrical power, even if is a small percentage. As Al put it, "...when we finally get off our duffs and figure out how to produce electricity truly cleanly.." But would you rather see wind farms and solar power farms in SW MO?

Happy Birthday Chief... Hope you get to wet a line in celebration...

I'm assuming if I don't I will be tarred and feathered... So, yeah I'm planning on it...

Building A 12' Cedar Strip
Terry Beeson replied to woodman's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
Looking good!!!!! -
Thanks Eric and TF... I'm not sure I agree that marriage comes under the umbrella of liberty though... And as a general statement to all including myself... Articulation, gentlemen... Still better to be thought a fool than to open one's "mouth" and remove all doubt.

Welcome to the nut house and the fly fishing obsession... Now for the next step... FLY TYING!!!!

Don't tell Leonard I said this, but stuffed jalapenos are better anyway...

Can you explain where eminent domain is noted in the constitution? (Not saying it's not there, just want to see it.) And can you explain how liberty and marriage are related? (Again, not disputing, just want clarification of your findings.)
