  1. Looks good to me... But then I'm not a fish. The eggs do look a little sparse, but hey... they look a lot better than some that I've tied for sure...
  2. Happy Birthday, guys... Dang, I feel old...
  3. Yep... I made Sowbug. At least Saturday morning. Got to see a few folks and meet a couple of new ones. It was a great time as usual. Now I'm hungry for some good homemade Italian sausage... Dang... I'll be getting my order in with my sister now. That spaghetti is homemade as well as the sauce, you know...
  4. I fished the Spring today... Water is up a bit and a little dingy, but sure beats fighting 8 units at BSD and 4 at Norfork... Action was not 'hot" at Lassiter, but did hold my interest for a couple of hours with 8 or 9 to hand...
  5. Glad to have you aboard...
  6. VERY Kewl!! See ya at 'Bug...
  7. Hey Brian... On closer inspection, I just recognized that reel as one that is in my arsenal... but then noticed the reel seat... What rod is that? Sweet looking wood...
  8. It was NOT the Giant Man-Eating Taneycomo Killer Squid because he only comes out at night... and is especially attracted to spinning rigs and methane gas... As for the land-based tourist eating creatures... I'd keep my eye on the Hot Dog Man at Mickey's in Branson West...
  9. EWWWWWWW!!!!!!!! You TOUCHED it? OK... I can see a new pattern developing...
  10. Park at the hatchery and walk up the walkway between the hatchery fence and DRC... You can look down on a good day and see all the big fish you ever want to see in one spot. There are numerous good spots to fish on the creek, but my favorite is a spot up about half way and down the steps just to the left is a deeper pool that usually holds a few big honkin' sows that will cooperate if you just keep doggin' them with a SJW or scud or nymph... But then again, I don't remember a BAD spot on the creek...
  11. Welcome to the forum, Virginia... Yep... I'd say that's pretty high water for that stretch of the river.
  12. Snagged... After a couple of seahorses and a chili dog, Leonard IS a gas station... The inside of his waders is coated with "Permaphart..."
  13. Welcome to the forum. Kings River is certainly one of those smallmouth jewels of the Ozarks. Look forward to hearing how you do there...
  14. GREG... STOP IT, MAN!! You're KILLIN' me here... Yeah, before you go out and buy a new one, let's see if you can get the old one replaced. Most decent fly rods have a good warranty program... even if you step on it or slam it in the truck door while standing in the parking lot at Taney at 2am drinking Bud Light and shooting the bull with the guys...
  15. I hope he had his clothes on... Congrats bud...
  16. ... And the check is in the mail... ... And I'm from the government and I'm here to help... But there ain't nuthin' like the feeling of catching a fish on a fly you tied yourself...
  17. Are you looking in the mirror for a pattern to go by? UNI is a good midge thread, but I'm wanting to try some silk thread to tie up some. I got a spool at JoAnn's sewing shop, but want to get some Pearsalls silk thread designed for fly tying. I've used Sally Hansen Hard As Nails for head cement and midge covering and have no complaints. Just double coat the midges to get the best coverage... Plus, you get all kinds of weird looks when you shop for it at WalMart... (In my best Arkansas Hillbilly accent - ) "'scuse me ma'am, but dew yew thank this heer color gows guud with mah overalls and brogans? Mah wife thanks I need to tone down a bit and ware more earth tones..."
  18. Kewl looking style for sure. Makes you think of those Chinese acrobats with the ribbons on the stick swirling around...
  19. Wily, A bit more advice... If you get a chance to get a lesson from Ol Al.... TAKE IT!!!!! You'll learn more in 30 minutes with Al than a lifetime on your own. Are you Sowbug bound, Al?
  20. Good looking site... great job guys... And I'm humbly honored by the link... I'll add to the list soon...
  21. Welcome to the forum...
  22. Jim, Welcome to the fly fishing world and your new addiction. I think Michael has a "direct deposit" system set up to have your paycheck sent directly to BCO to pay for all your new toys you're going to want... Actually, if you can get Randy or Michael to give you a casting lesson or two, you'll be way ahead. And as the saying goes... there are three keys... practice, practice, and practice...
  23. Fly Girl, First... welcome to the forum. Second... The Little Red River (Greer's Ferry tail waters) from Heber to Pangburn are prime trout waters. Of course I hope you know you're talking the waters from whence came the current 40 lb 4 oz record German Brown Trout. There are several prime locations for some good fishing - Cow Shoals, Libby Shoals, Swinging Bridge being some of the better ones. See maps at Ozark Angler website - click here. Another 90 minutes and you could be on the Bull Shoals and/or Norfork tail waters. But if you want to stay within an hour of Searcy, then stick with the Little Red. Go to Fly Fishing Arkansas (click here) and click on the forum link there. On that forum you will find a couple more guys very familiar with the Little Red including "Maddog" Mike Davis who has the sowbugs in the river named...
  24. None in Rogersville and Branson, an inch or so in Nixa up to James River Freeway... THEN it gets deeper and deeper with about 8-9 inches here at St John's... I hear there was 11 inches in Russellville, AR...
