Sorry I'm so late posting this... The Federation of Fly Fishers is "an international service organization dedicated to the betterment of the sport of fly fishing through Conservation and Education." It is divided into councils based on geographic region. The Sounthern Council of Federation of Fly Fishers included MO, KS, AR, IL, LA, TX, OK, and Memphis. Each year, the "main event" is the Conclave. It is a fly fishing event that included seminars, instructions, fly tying demonstrations, casting games, product exhibits, silent and live auctions, dinners, and of course fishing. It is held the first Thursday-Saturday in October in Mountain Home, AR. As Dennis Slane puts it, "You can learn more in three days of conclave than you will fishing all year long." If you like to fly fish, you will like conclave. You will meet more people - fly tyers, fly fishermen, guides, etc. - than you can on any river. It is a great event that NOBODY who fly fishes the White River system should miss. You should go at least one time. This is the SOC-FFF's main fund raising event. To learn more about the FFF, SOC, and conclave, visit the SOC-FFF website by clicking here. Then Click here to visit the main FFF website. You do not have to be a member of FFF to attend.

Shame shame shame, Brian... Nice looking website. October on the EPoint sounds like a good trip. Now, if you just put images and recipes for some of those flies... (By the way... the map link from the "Float Trips" page did not work...)

I know what you mean, Ducky... except for the work part... even though lookin' for a job seems to be more of a full time job than actually having one... Not sure I'll be there tonight but I need to get a fix myself...

Welcome to the forum... and the nut house...

Welcome to the forum, Randy. You'll have a good time at Phil's. By the way... most of us fly fishermen here wade and fish from the middle of the stream... not from the bank. And there are plenty of fly, bait, spin, boat, wade, and bank fishermen on the forum... Good luck on your fishing!!

Terry Beeson replied to back2roots's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I am planning on being there sometime tomorrow. If you see a brown Dodge 4X4 with a back window sticker "Bucks & Ducks - Turkey & Trout" that'll be me... blaring AC/DC tunes... -

Hmmmm.... Birthday party in the plans? -
Hey Phil... there's nothin' to it. Just sit on the back of the bull and hang on... But then there is that "get off and run like heck before the bull stomps your butt in the ground" thing...

Drove down to Mountain Home Friday afternoon for a bit of grandbaby spoiling, but Poppa did manage to get in a few hours on the water Saturday. Started with a couple of hours below BSD. Started casting streamers (yes, the infamous olive pine squirrel sculpin) and brought a nice 15 incher to hand on the second cast. But the fishing was not that hot. I managed to take four from 14-16 inches before getting hot, tired, hungry, and thirsty enough to take a break and move downstream. Stopped in at Mountain River Fly Shop before heading to Rim Shoals. I asked Gary if he had alread let our Ozzy friend Steve have a day off and he laughed and told me he was on a guide trip. When I got to Rim, I knew where he was guiding. I picked up a few as I made my way down to the shoals. A few fishermen were there, but they started coming out right after I started. I swear I took a shower that morning, but then I had sweated a lot at the dam... but no chili dogs!! Anyway, I had the shoals pretty much to myself, and had spied what I took to be a nice 20 plus inch Brown by a log moving into the current to feed. I started casting to him and he short struck me several times. About half hour later, Steve and his clients came walking out and he stopped to visit a bit. Right after they got up to the parking lot, the fish made a good take! But he turned out to be only 17 1/2 inches long... Nothin' to sneeze at, but not the big boy I thought he was. At that, with some rumbling in the clouds and in my stomach, I decided to call it a day (only one left in the water at Rim...) and went back to my MIL's to grill some ribeyes for Granny, Nanna, Poppa, Auntie, Mommy, and Daddy... The catch of the day was this fine beautiful 19 1/2 incher... She's a KEEPER for sure!!! (Note, I did not hold her at arm's length... ... Well, until she dirtied her diaper... )

Cadron Creek Catfish was started several years ago in the Conway and Bee Branch areas of Arkansas. Now they have opened one in Vally Springs/Western Grove on 65 south of Harrison, AR. Anyone tried it yet? If it's anything like the ones down 65, it is GREAT catfish - all you can eat. Gotta try it one of these days myself to find out.

Yeah, salsa... OK... but how does it do with dubbing? And does that hair replacement spray paint stuff really work? Joe Pesci doing an info-mmercial for the Kitchen 2000: "So yous take da guy who owes you da money... see? And you grab his hand right above da wrist... OK? See? Like dat... and den yous take off da top o'da Kitchen two-tousand like dat... see? And den yous put da guys hand down in da Kitchen two-tousand. Den yous put the patented "Dirty Rotten Cheapskate Son Of A..." lid on da Kitchen two-tousand... You see ya don' wan' any o'da blood and stuff gettin' all over your bran-new Armani suit ya know... So den yous turn on da switch... and BAM-O!!!!!! Da dirty rotten sunnuvabuck dat owes you dat money starts screamin'! But da best ting about da Kitchen two-tousand is dat you can't hear da screamin' over da noise of da machine!! Ain't dat great?! "Look! You punk! Yous gonna pay me dat money or not!!!! Yeah?! You hadda 'nuff? Yeah? Well I tink yous need MORE!! "So if da punk don't pay up right away, you see, yous can turn da Kitchen 2000 up on HIGH and REALLY make mince meat outta his hand!!! DEN he'll pay up... WON'TCHA PUNK!?!?!?!" "Yeah... so see? Da Kitchen two-tousand is a MONEY MAKIN' machine as well. See how dis punk who owed me $500 paid me a tousand just to keep da rest of his fingers? Dat's $500 CLEAR PROFIT!!! "So get on da phone NOW! Or else I'll come to yous guys house and give YOU a first-hand demonstration of your own!! Got dat? Orden NOW!!!!!"

Ollie, A lot depends on what you want and stream conditions. Not sure about when you get there, but the river was pretty good at the 65 bridge when I crossed it Sunday. I would say the upper end where you're talking would be a nice float right now. There is some really beautiful scenery between Lost Valley and Erbie. But there is also some good floating from say Mt Hersey or Woolum to Tyler Bend or Gilbert. However, that stretch is probably going to be really crowded right now. The parking lots at Silver Hill were running over Saturday and Sunday last when we passed by. Another good stretch is from Buffalo Point or Rush to Buffalo City. If I remember right, Buffalo Point was a really good "more modern" camping area and Rush is not bad itself. The water/float is a bit slower, but the fishing is some better on that stretch.

Thanks all... This is Cindy's first grandchild. I've got five step-grandkids and one GREAT grandbaby from my first marriage, so this is "old had" for me... But still a great blessing. No fly rod yet. I'll be looking for a 000 wt soon. But she DOES have some camo outfits in her closet already.... I'm thinking she needs to learn more about running a boat while she watches Poppa fish... How young will they take them in guide school? Gotta get to work on her drift boat rowing skills, too... Think she's too young to have a .22 yet?

Not really unusual... the mild summer we've had so far one would think would decrease some generation. But I think there is a problem with a couple of generators on the grid and TRD is helping make it up. The graph for the last week shows they have generated a few hours a day, but off at night.

Jailee Michelle Tyson was born at 12:10 pm today at Baxter County Med Center in Mountain Home, AR. She weighed in at 7 lb. 12 oz. and 19 1/2 inches long! Poppa and Nanna are doing fine.... Oh... and so are the baby and mom... (Now if Poppa can just catch a TROUT that size!! ) Poppa and Nanna will be back in Mountain Home this weekend to begin the spoiling of the first grandbaby and Poppa may just sneak off and try to catch that trout...

Mid Week - Early Evening at Roaring River
Terry Beeson replied to Capt E's topic in Roaring River State Park
While it looks a bit like some of Duane Hada's work, there are "things" about it that make me think it's not his. You will note Duane's use of sunlight underwater in his prints... not in that avitar. Click here for some of Duane Hada's prints of fish... Not saying it is NOT a Duane Hada print... Just that it has features that would lead one to believe it is not. I thought Duane lived in Cotter? -
Uh... 3wt... check the date on that schedule. They don't post anything but the current day's schedule and the next day's after 5pm. So you're probably looking at the schedule for July 19th... "20" would be wadable, yes... but you want to be careful... Just because they schedule "20" doesn't mean it will STAY at 20 and if they increase it from 20 to say 35, you will not get a warning horn.
