  1. I had to take a trip to Branson this afternoon and my wife was out with the girls from work, so took advantage of a couple of hours on Taney. Got there around 7pm, no generation, fog started rolling in, and I threw every streamer in my box for two hours... not a take ONE!!!! Only fish I saw caught was by a spin fisherwoman who was fishing micro jigs and she only landed one dink. Then her companion landed one... On the bright side, I had about twenty fish from 12 to 20 inches staring at my boots most of the time... When I got out around 9, I pulled a few sowbugs off my gravel guards... Guess I shoulda been high stickin' with a sowbug...
  2. Mike... similar story to me... Fished the first 40 years of my life with a bass rod... Now they are gathering dust in the corner... Fly fishing has taken over my brain!!! Welcome to the forum...
  3. I think you have to be physically disable... mental doesn't count... so I'm SOL...
  4. Good one Thom!!!!
  5. My wife says I sometimes act like a three-year-old.... Does that count?
  6. Yep... loaded question... "Do you really want me to come with you, Dear?" You say "no" and she hears "I don't want anything to come between me and the fish. Besides, I might see a good looking woman sunbathing and want to stare at her for a while..." OR You say "yes" and she hears "I really feel guilty about this and in order to make up for that guilt, I will sacrafice an otherwise very enjoyable weekend by letting you come along and forcing me to go shopping with you... and ruining any chance I might get to stare at a good looking woman sunbathing..." Been there.... Done that.... No way to win that one...
  7. I'm here... that's all that counts... you may carry on now...
  8. Nice rig... My band was playing a gig in the mid 90s and the owner of the club asked if he could sit in for a set. Well, we agreed (afterall, he's paying the bill...) and when he opened his guitar case, the lead guitar player and I almost had a heart attack... A Les Paul Goldtop... Come to find out, it was a '57 (if I remember right... I want to say it was a year older than me... certainly somewhere between '56 and '59) and in MINT condition. He had gotten it for a $50 bar tab in the early 90s....... The guy bought it new, played it a few times, and cased it and kept it under his bed for 35 years... Why can't I run into something like that?
  9. Steve... Dude... Mate... NEVER ...I mean NEVER say that around my wife... I'm trying to convince her I need a few more rods for different types of fishing... I like what you mentioned about tippet... Good point. I'm leaning toward a 2 ft section of 20 lb Amnesia with 8 lb mono tippet... maybe a 3 ft section of 15 lb Amnesia in between. Some guys are tying a very short cut leader (high diameter butt end) and directly to a 6-20 lb tippet. So, that thought should be in mind when looking at the rod to use... or vice versa...
  10. Dave, It's been hot down here... hot and humid... well really about average for this time of year... in the 90s Looks like we're in for a bit of cooler weather after today through the weekend. I would say you might have to keep a check on the generation number, but will find some fishing time in there...
  11. I'd call you a wuss... but all in good fun. That rod is "designed from reel seat to tip for the female fly caster"... whatever that means. I do think it's a bit lighter and the grip is probably some smaller in diameter... and purple... with pink lettering... but that's about the only "difference"... Probably a lot of guys would LOVE that rod if it wasn't for the pink lettering... It's funny how the makers of most products will make male and female items based on the "average" user. What might fit my hand might be a "female" grip or might even have to be oversized "male" type. Of course I know women who buy and wear/use things like men's jeans, but I don't know any men who wear women's jeans... I'd say use the rod... But don't put any rainbow stickers in your truck windows or wear pink waders... ("Not that there's anything wrong with that..." - Jerry Seinfeld)
  12. Hmmmm... Carribbean island... beaches... and I could fish... I think I could talk Cindy into that one!!!! Hey, Ronnie... That one is on my list, too. Got a friend down in Jonesboro who has done quite a bit of shark fishing and from his tales, it's GOT to be a lot of fun...
  13. OK... I'll bite... I have two 9 ft TFO 8wt rods. One is a Professional and one is an IM6. I like both rods, but the Pro is the one I pull out the most. It's a 4 piece vs. the 2 pc IM6. Both are good rods for the money for sure. I wouldn't take anything less than an 8 wt (some may say 7 and even 6) in the fall at night. Usually, you'll be casting big streamers and will need something to get them out there a bit. And if that big fish gets on, you'll appreciate the bigger rod. But I've landed bigger fish on my 4 wt as well. As for brand, I would say it doesn't make a big difference on brand as long as you have something you like to cast and can do so at night. For anyone who has not cast a fly in the dark, it is totally different in feel for sure... That's the thing... it's totally by feel with no visual. You may think you don't watch your casts in the daylight, but just close your eyes and keep 'em shut from the beginning of one cast to the middle of the next... You'll see what I mean. It's ALL by feel. OK... I digress... Anyway... Brand, again, is a personal preference, but I would stick with something reliable and that you really like to cast. So, (here is that echo again...) go to your local fly shop (or several fly shops) and talk to the guys there and get them to let you cast several to choose from. Don't buy one just because Leonard, Michael, or a host of guys - even me - on here use them. Try those out along with others not mentioned and get the one that fits YOU best... (Did I say Echo?... Hey, Michael... Tell Harvey I want compensation for subliminal advertising... )
  14. Great PhotoShop work there Leonard!!!! JUST KIDDIN'!!!!!!! (You KNOW I couldn't resist... ) Nice Pheesh for sure....
  15. DEWD!!! Awesome! "Smoke On The Water" was one of the first licks I learned. Can't imagine 1,721 guitars clanging out that riff at once!! Wish now I could have made it 1,722... So how many axes do you have hanging around your house? I was up to 6 before getting out of it. Now I'm a Tele guy myself... American standard... tattooed on my left shoulder no less... Tobacco sunburst with a rosewood fretboard. The only amp I have left is a Fender Pro 185. Had a DigiTech processor that was stolen. Don't play enough anymore to replace it... Yeah... you need to play Springfield so some of us can check out your sound in person...
  16. Yep... gotta know your genre, your axe(s), and your amp set up... Inquiring minds MUST know!!!! Oh... By the way... good fishin' report...
  17. Yeah... Walmart has their dove hunting stuff out... Jeez... they'll be setting CHRISTMAS stuff in a couple of weeks!!!!
  18. Hey Dano... that pic turned out pretty good for 2am lighting... (Of course, Dano's net is from Europe... measures in centimeters... )
  19. Hmmmm... that brown is.... 18 inches... WHUD I WIN!!!... WHUD I WIN!!!! Rich... there's a fine line you have to work in porn... you want SOME things to appear bigger, but some things smaller... if you know what I mean... Not that I would know...
  20. DOs are Dissolved Oxygen levels, yes... As for extending arms, that is an old photographer's "trick" that is used in many photos taken by professional photographers. They know how to get the right angles and so forth. Most fishermen who have anyone with any real experience behind the camera will be told to hold the fish out. But it is to make the fish appear as large as possible. Many fishermen have picked up on that "trick" so it is very common now. Also, for those who don't know this... If you hold the camera down a bit and take the photo from a lower angle, it makes the fish look even bigger!! Try it some time taking three photos... one from slightly above (if you have a rock or something to get above the fisherman), one at eye-to-eye level, and one from about eye to hand or a lttle below level. Note my avitar for example... taken from above... Makes that 32 inch brown look only half that size...
  21. OK... I guess that means I can't call Dano a .... oh never mind... NOT a problem, Phil... But I do have a lapse of "old-timers" at times... Too many good folks on this forum for it to be a problem...
  22. Just don't ask Leonard what he puts in 'em to make 'em do that to ya... You do NOT want to KNOW!!! But I think he got the recipe from this lady who lived in a swamp down in southern Louisiana... Something about live chickens, monkey's feet, over-ripe mangos, sassafras root, and something called "eye of newt?" Good meeting and "somewhat" fishing with you guys... and BSing in the parking lot...
  23. Hmmmm... I thought he looked that way anyway... (Just kiddin' JH...) You don't know why they're actin' that way? I can tell ya... We've got them so worn out from catchin' 'em so much they're tuckered out!!!... OK... OK.... OK.... YA'LL have got 'em tuckered out...
  24. Nice pheesh, Jeremy...
