Ain't NUTHIN' more fun than watchin' 'em catch 'em and seein' them big ol' grins...

With all the activity this weekend, I FINALLY got to Taney this afternoon for a couple hours fishing... I got to the water about 5:30pm and the sun was shining but the wind was up a bit below TRD. I entered at outlet 2 and noticed fishermen upstream and down and fish making it look like it was raining straight in front of me, so I headed straight in.... I had tied on one of Leonard's infamous Pine Squirrel Scullpins (olive) and had three fish on the first four casts (and it's one I tied, Leonard... .) Then the "wind knot fairy" came to visit and after 15 minutes of bull headedness, I cut that leader and tied on another with the same sculpin. It kept producing for a while, but finally the takes got a little sparse. I was going to tie a gray mink streamer on, but found a box of streamers I was "missing" in my vest, so I tied on a leech instead. That got a bunch of takes, but I have now decided I tied it too bushy and it kept me from setting the hook. But I did manage another 3 or 4 to hand with it. With the sun going down, my feet getting cold, and my knees getting tired, I made my way out at aroud 8pm. All in all, 15 or so 'bows all good size, fat and way sassy! The one 12 incher was a hand full! All were in great shape and gave a good fight. Most of them were in the 14-16 inch range... nothin' to write home about, but still good fishing and good fun! I'll be back down, if nothing happens, next Friday morning for another try at 'em....

Mrs. Ducky... It is VERY important that you get those waders broken in as soon as possible. If you wait until after today, it could really be hard on the life of those waders... they might even leak next time... (OK Ducky... I'll be by in the mornin' to pick up the $20...)

How Much Rain Did YOU GEt???
Terry Beeson replied to DOITLOOKIT's topic in General Angling Discussion
Yep... there was snow hitting the windshield on us from around Joplin to Springfield. Several places had snow still visible on grass, rocks, etc. on James River Freeway... Freaky.... I'll be surprised if they wait until Monday, Phil... I'm thinking about making a trip down this afternoon... surely they will find out and fire up all the generators.... -
Hey John... Your opinions, please, on using other colors other than the bright green. I'm thinking of raiding my wife's embroidery thread collection. Some really kewl colors in there... I know a redass works and you have proven the green butt... what about blue, purple, yellow, etc.?

Unplanned quick trip to OK
Terry Beeson replied to Terry Beeson's topic in General Angling Discussion
Well, I think I'm caught up on sleep now... The best part of this (John, you'll appreciate this) was that the paramedics did not even ask for an address or phone number. Cindy's best friend is a paramedic and she called her and asked her about it, and she told her it was all in how "you write it up..." So, as far as I know, there will be no bill. We have good insurance, but it's just good to know some guys are out there that are not focused so much on the "almighty dollar." From what I got out of what I know about the conversation, this team was very nice about the whole thing and very concerned. But after accessing her for a while, they knew she was OK and just needed to be monitored. The main one offered to take her to the ER, but said it was probably not necessary. When Cindy said no, he just said "OK... no problem. She'll be fine, but if something does happen, call us back..." (You guys are so underpaid...) Things are pretty much back to normal except the fact that Amanda is POd that Mom wouldn't let her stay and watch her friend race.... (One more thing.... I HATE TOLL ROADS AND TOLL BOOTHS!!!!!!!! And did I mention my feelings for Tulsa? ) -
Well, we're back... Been back a while, but had to take a nap. Update to the prayer request posting this morning: For those who don't know - Amanda, my 11 year old step daughter, is big into horses and barrell racing. She is also a Type I diabetic. She's been doing fine with her condition of late. Both of them... Yesterday, she left with a friend and her family for Guthrie, OK (just north of OK City) to a barrell racing event. Amanda was not running, but her friend was and they wanted to both be there. Things were fine until 1am... We got a phone call from the friend's mom that they had called an ambulance to the motel for Amanda. She had awakened her friend by kicking her. Come to find out, she was in the middle of a diabetic seizure. Cindy (who is an RN by the way) got on the phone with the paramedics. Amanda's blood sugar level was 42 and she was not responding well. 42 is a low number, but we've seen lower in her and she's been OK. Anyway, we got dressed and headed out at 1:30am for the 4.5 hour drive there. On the way, we stopped for a quick potty break and found one of the tires almost flat. I had hit a big pothole in Tulsa (GAWD I HAVE ALWAYS HATED THAT TOWN!!) and must have done something to the tire. We were 50 or so miles from Guthrie, so I aired it up and took off, stopping a couple of times to be sure it was still up. Anyway, we made it and got to Guthrie and the motel room around 6am, picked up Amanda and headed back. She does not remember anything after going to bed. She does not remember the paramedics, talking to her mom on the phone, or anything. It was scary, but she seems to be fine now. A call to her endocrinologist at 6:45 verified that it was probably the "stress" of the trip, the excitement, and the physical activity level that made her bottom out on glucose and inducing the seizure. As a precaution, we're keeping a pretty close eye on her and monitoring glucose levels more often for a couple of days. Cindy was suppose to go to work today and is working tomorrow, so my fishing this weekend is shot... Oh well... There's always next weekend.... Sorry for rambling, but after only two hours sleep last night, nine hours of driving, 564 miles under me, gallons of Mt Dew and coffee, and an hour nap when we got back, I'm pretty wired and need to vent or whatever.... Thanks for the prayers all... Now... I think I'll give my pillow another chance...

spinning rod for flippin and prtchin
Terry Beeson replied to back o d boat's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
Not sure where you are, but Dorber will be at the Southwest MO Fly Fishers meeting at the Nature Center in Springfield May 10th to put on a program about how graphite rod blanks are made... Should be VERY interesting. -
Leonard... No way I am using the WonderWoman combo. I SLEEP with that one... I think anyone who has read my stories knows about my preference as a child and somewhat still today when I'm spin/cast fishing... Zebco 33... Yeah, I have a lot of memories there... and I'm still trying to put as many of them as I can down "on paper"...

Dorber rod blanks... hands down.... Click here... -
The 202 is great! Just be sure you get the Spiderman combo... The Superman combo has a tendancy to slip and the Powder Puff Girls combo is a pain to lubricate...

Wow, Zach... you must have some sort of "suggestive powers" in order to get Leonard and Duckydoty to fish at night on Taney.... I hope to sneak down for a bit of fishing, but probably won't get to fish at night...
