  1. Here is a quote from another forum from Jeremy: ????????????????????????? Quote:I added this on Ozarkanglers forum and got some haters today. I found myself defending myself for giving this honest report. Can you believe that. I'm glad those people aren't on this one. We might not have alot of people over here, but who we do have I consider my true readers and I would take any one of you out if I bumped into you on the river. There’s always a place for you in my boat. unquote I read all of the comments and saw no haters.... just folks with opinions. Actually Jeremy I have recommend you before on the basis of what I have heard of you ability for folks who fish Taney. I wouldn't have done that if I hated you. Lighten up A sometimes grumpy ole 69 year old man Thom
  2. Quote: Fishing is fishing and not catching! Everybody has an opinion and has a right to it. But if you type out an opinion that calls out people for lying to drum up biz... you may get pounded. Just a warning. You nailed it right on. I just took offense to someone saying that I don't know nutting about nuttin about Taney and I have been coming there for 30 + years. Also implying that some people are posting lies and that fishing is really good. I don't know what he was reading but I have heard both good and bad reports. Knowing most of the posters and fishing with some of them I know they are men of integrety and don't lie. I have seen several posts about the terrible days and reasons why they may be bad including ones of late by Phil. No one attacked those folks but they didn't insinuate that the good reports were lies either. I have fished on a weeks vacation several days before and got nearly skunked for one or two of the days.. Then I discovered the presentation, fly, or place that the fish wanted and the rest was downhill. Phil: I just booked 4 days on the in December 26 -7-8-9 a few minutes ago. So good or bad I will be there to give it a try. Actually a bad day fishing is alway better than best days sitting at the keyboard reading reports. Thanks for providing the forum for all to express their thoughts and share experiences ... good or bad. I have learned volumes from sportsmen about many fishing issues.
  3. Jeremy: I completly understand. I have been fishing Taney since 1972 when my sons were 11 and 13 and I feel the pain just as you do. I actually have an old brochure of my two sons and I that was used by Lazy Valley resort with our pictures on the front from a days catch resort advertisement.. That week Tom and Tim caught two rainbows one night out from the dock. One was 5 # the other was 4# . We probally caught the numbers that you mentioned daily floating down from fall creek. We would have doubles and triples all down the stream. I fished across from Lilly's with jigs and caught fish all day along that bank across from Phil's and then down in a drop off at will just across from where Phil's house is. Thank's Jeremy for all of the interesting articles you have posted and for the fly patterns offered. Sorry if I offended you. It was not my intention. Just offering a different opinion.
  4. Gabe: I have been hoping for a chance to agree with Taxidermist on something. (just kidding guy) I agree that Stetsons is a great base for fishing the upper white below BS. A great place to stay also. I have spent several weeks there and really like the location. I could go out almost anytime of the day and catch fish up in the riffles above the resort, back of the jutt by the dock or straight out past the dock all wading. If you can catch the water low you can wade across the riffles and fish the drop into a nice hole across from the dock. The whitehole access is just down the road from the resort and is also great fishing all along the launch bank side The other thing we found that if you start at the park and fish when the water is off or slow and they turn the water on faster you can chase the rise through all of the accesses by driving the highway. with all of the long turns on that upper stretch you can fish a rise for 2 or 3 hours. Good fishing...I am jealous
  5. Thanks to each of your takes on this subject. I know that the stream has certainly made a big change and that some of the things we have done and places we have fished are different but I think it is all about the experience as we see it that make the sport of fishing so great. I have only been down twice since the big changes due to the floods etc this spring and summer and I didn't catch 100 fish but the numbers are not why I enjoy the sport. Both times down I did better than most I talked to but again that was not as important to me as the experience. I usually have 10 or so new patterns that I will try .... some sucessful some not. I could probably catch many more fish using the same o, same o but again that is not the reasaon I fish. I saw my grandson on one trip catch lots of fish and learn new things from some the others fishing including grandpa. We had a great time. He met lots of sportsmen with character and values that I was happy for him to see. Thas is not to put down those who reflect upon the numbers of the fish or the quality of the fish but to say that to many who fish we could care less. I have never fished at Taney for a few days without meeting interesting folks and a few idiots too. The interestng folks I can sometimes share ideas or share a successful pattern with someone ..... many times I will meet folks like Leonard from whom I can learn volumes. I don't let the idiots rent space in my head or steal a great time on the stream. I don't need to catch 100 fish to be pleased but have often done just that bacause I hit a good hatch or found a nice riffle above where the fish were feeding. Lot of it luck with a little experience and knowledge. Thanks to all of you and I look forward to perhaps sharing the experience with some who present their thoughts on this forum regardless of what your passion may be.
  6. Thanks guys I will probally throw all of my fly box at them but your suggestions give me a place to start. After reading another thread on the derby there I wonder if I shouldn't wait a week. I mostly C&R anyway except for a couple of smaller bows before leaving the stream for dinner. Thom
  7. If I can get someone to stay with disabled wife I am going to try wed or thursday at Maramec park. I am coming from Ofallon Mo if anyone in that area is interested in meeting up and fishing together either of those days. I haven't been to Maramec park in a long time. Fished Cardiac and river but not the park because of the lack of zones.
  8. Bigredbirdfan: http://www.need.org/needpdf/infobook_activ...Info/HydroS.pdf The document pasted above will give you the information you requested. Hydopower is the most efficient means of producing electricity. Page 3 of the PDF shows comparisons of the different means of production. There are other benefits of hydropower than efficiency once the dam is built. I think that the figures that show hydropower expensive take into consideration the construction of the dam. If it is already there then it is more efficient to use it than to mine coal, produce fuel rods, etc.
  9. Murdoc Good report. I have never fished that area below the bridge in the fast water. How do you fish it and what flys did you use. I usually fish spring hole area down to the bridge or above the bridge before the bait area to the hatchery outlet area. Anyone else fished that fast water? Thanks Thom
  10. I am hoping to get down in the next few weeks and I do keep one or two occasionally. Getting riled up abut fishing makes sense. About politics in a free society doesn't.
  11. Problem cleared up just as mysteriously as it appeared. Probally something internal here. ????????? The posting issue. I don't mind rational debate but if everytime you post you get slammed hard for a different opinion it kind of defeats the purpose of a forum.
  12. The last couple of days it has taken forever to get into the forum clicking on ozarkanglers. com. I usually get on almost instantly. My download time on all esle is 5Mb and am having no problems elsewhere. Once I get onto the site I have no problem navigating and or with downloads just getting on. I am forgoing any posting until after the elections. No point. waste of time, but do enjoy reading the fishing information and reports.
  13. Here is an interesting statement from the General gates as he is leaving his post. It is almost identical to what Obama said: This is a part of Petraius' statements in the formal statement when leaving Iraq: Petraeus leaves behind a heavy dose of caution, reflected in his recommendation to President Bush that he maintain 15 combat brigades in Iraq through the end of the year instead of pulling out one or two, as many had expected. Who said I am an Obama supporter. I just am reading the facts and listening to decide which of the two democrats running for the presidency I will vote for. McCain or Obama. I have issues that I disagree with on both. I might remind you that the Moral McCain has not been on the right side of the issues until lately. Remember that the so called liberal supreme court has 7 of the 9 justices appointed by a sitting Republician president. Roe vs Wade fiasco was decided by that court and could never have happened without it.
  14. It is in the congressional and senate record. Published by law as to the actual vote. google the bill and the date and it comes up. Interesting stuff to show how the political ideas change and memories falter just before election time. BTW not just McCains record. I only wanted to show that it is not just one sided. Like it or not you have two democrats running for president. Check the voting record not just the spin of the election rhetoric. The only republician on the ballot is Palin and she claims to be a maveric.
  15. Yeh here is a good record of voting????????????????????????????????? Congressional record. April 2006: McCain was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans. March 2006: McCain voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes. March 2004: McCain once again voted for abusive tax loopholes over veterans when he voted against creating a reserve fund to allow for an increase in Veterans' medical care by $1.8 billion by eliminating abusive tax loopholes. Jeez, McCain really loves those tax loopholes for corporations, since he voted for them over our veterans' needs. October 2003: McCain voted to table an amendment by Senator Dodd that called for an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq and to reduce the amount provided for reconstruction in Iraq by $322,000,000. April 2003: McCain urged other Senate members to table a vote (which never passed) to provide more than $1 billion for National Guard and Reserve equipment in Iraq related to a shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, and tactical vests. August 2001: McCain voted against increasing the amount available for medical care for veterans by $650,000,000. To his credit, he also voted against the 2001 Bush tax cuts, which he now supports making permanent, despite the dire financial condition this country is in, and despite the fact that he indicated in 2001 that these tax cuts unfairly benefited the very wealthy at the expense of the middle class. So there it is. John McCain is yet another republican former military veteran who likes to talk a big game when it comes to having the support of the military. Yet, time and time again, he has gone out of his way to vote against the needs of those who are serving in our military. If he can’t even see his way to actually doing what the troops want, or what the veterans need, and he doesn’t have the support of veterans, then how can he be a credible commander in chief? But now that he is running again for president he is for the veterans.
  16. who said vote for him. there you go inserting something into what you read. I am considering voting for McCain as soon as he tell me which of the two positions he is finally going to take on drilling in AK, Immigartion, raising taxes, abortion, supporting Bushes policies. He has been on three sides of all of them. Check what the swift boaters and the Party said about him in the primaries in 2004. Either the NRP has flip flopped or he has. or both?
  17. If you guys are going to give sources at least check them out. This guy is a crackpot. Even O'riley roasted him Amir Taheri is an Iranian-born journalist and author based in Europe. His writings focus on the Middle East affairs and topics related to Islamist terrorism. Taheri's public speaking engagements are arranged by Benador Associates, a public relations firm with a predominantly neoconservative clientele. [1][2][3][4] Critics have questioned Taheri's journalistic integrity, alleging that Taheri's writings contain misrepresentations.[5] Let's try some facts for a change not just allegations.
  18. YOU are absolutely right it was devils kitchen lake. I acuually have a very good anchor stuck in those rocks at the bottom of that lake near the dam.
  19. III Troutbum: My roots are in Southern Illinois. A little town called Valier. I did my first college stint at SIU Carbondale and lived in the area for a few years later. One of our favorite fishing and camping spots was Lake Murphysboro. The bluegill and redear there were a blast on a flyrod espcially out of the Lilypads. Lots of fond memories with my two sons in our homemake boat there in the 70's. My two sons are both avid Trout anglers now .... tying and all. I have fished all of the other lakes around SIU. Do they still stock the trout in Lake Egypt. I tried fishing it for trout several times but near the dam where they hung out it was so overpopulated with gills you could hardly get down to where they were. Your website is nice and If I am ever that way again I will try to look you up. Welcome to the site It is an interesting read and will hopefully return to a fishing site after the elections. It seems to have been hyjacked now by the political bloggers.. I am hopeful that it will return to its roots that made it popular later this winter. Thom
  20. Trout fanatic: You nailed the problem exactly. Read some of the inditement of kickbacks and perks of Stevens from alaska which is outrageous. Greed is the problem. If there was a way to keep those operations in check it might work but when you have the Fox watching the hen house it won't work. Before anyone jumps on this as who's at fault..... There are plenty of the same greedy politicians on both sides of the aisle that can't resist the temptation of the perks that big dollars offer. I worked in a service department of a large corporation for years and I always had bidders offering card, rams, and blues tickets and other vacation etc types of deals to buy inferior over prided equipment.. My job and integrety was worth more than the lucradive offers that I was offered. Thom
  21. I got seven reasons to stop it now. They are named lydia, Valerie, T.J., Andy, Melanie, Zachary and Jessica. (my grandchildren) There are some things in life that are worth the price of ommision. Unfortunately Phil is right Billions VS the future is a hard fight to win. Just my 2cents. I wonder if that drilling were going in just up across bull creek on Taney if trav would have a different thought about the human ant hill? I am sure we would all be signing petitions.
  22. voted yes. Hardly keep anything over 14 below fall creek and never keep over 20 anywhere. That is what my digital camera is for.
  23. I just voted yes for the 24" limit on browns. The current status is 72 yes 5 no or 93% yes. Not that I have a problem but I am interested in why 5 voted no. Just curious about your reasoning. Thom
  24. Kevin: I am sorry that we emmigrants are fishing in taneycomo. You native american indians deserve to have special rights here. After all you were here first when our ancestors came over from europe in 1492 and then completely took over this country eventually. You do have some nice reservations for you to live in though. That should be enough. Now for the poll. I will support the 24 inch limits in regulated areas for browns and really don't have a problem for them with rainbows. I never keep anything over 14 inches in the lower lake and never anything above 12 inches in the upper. My sony digital is always in the boat or vest. A picture is all I need if anything. Thom (italian and belgian ancestry)
  25. Streamer: Check you personal messages I sent you a PM. Thom
