  1. Leonard: Does that mean if the water gets up to the hatchery pools we can fish in them also? How can a sign say no fishing and fishing be allowed? I would bet if the game warden saw them they would be cited and not have a leg to stand on. Technically the ditch is not at the same level as the river or it would not be flowing into it. Kind of like fishing in a bathtub or a bass pro kiddie pool on saturdays. What kind of sport is that. I would like to see one of them shuffle in that ditch though.
  2. Good point Al JD I do agree with most of what you are saying I just couldn't see how liberal entered into it. The press often sensationalizes most of what it reports. Kind of like people that curse with every other word. It is mostly to get attention and just espresses a lack of ability or talent to get a point over. I had a neighbor who had a dog that frightened my wife who has alheimzers to the point that she seemed afraid to go outside. It got so bad that I called the police after a polite complaint a time or two. I told the officer that if the dog chased my wife on my property again I was going to shoot it. Needless to say the officer read me the riot act. The good news..... he then went to the nieghbor and read him the riot act and assured him if he had to return it would not be a pleasant day for him. Later that summer I went to that neighbor with some tomatoes from my garden and to mend fences. We have become friends since and he apologized to me for the dog. It doesn't come in my yard anymore to bark at my wife and frighten her. Win....Win.
  3. Thanks Phil for the heads up. I really enjoyed the article on Fox Statlers scud pattern and the recipe. The scud is so realistic I was afraid that some of the trout on the screen were going to attact it as I read the article. I am on my way to my tying bench to try some of the advice of the article. I am the worlds worst when it comes to tying scuds. Usually put to much dubbing and in the wrong place. I will get it though eventually.
  4. I won't confuse you with the fact because it is plain that your mind is already made up. Here is what the article in the paper said, "Robert Monia, who lives at 2818 Hawthorne Road, said he shot the dog, Kamoli, after it attacked his cat. Monia said he was trying to get the dog off the cat and out of the house and was holding the dog's leather collar when the dog turned on him. "I'm not sure if he scratched me or bit me," he said. But Monia said he feared for his own safety as well as his cat's. He said a .22-caliber gun was close by. He shot the dog in the head and then twice more in its body. The dog ran out of the house and died in the yard, he said. THE PAPER SAID THAT HE SHOT IT IN THE HOUSE.. btw YOUR STATEMENT "and everyone feels sorry for him and his pets." IF YOU READ THE COMMENTS ON THE WEB SITE EVERYONE DIDN'T FEEL SORRY FOR THE PET OWNER. IN FACT AN OVERWHELMING NUMBER OF THE COMMENTS ACTUALLY AGREED WITH YOU AND ME THAT THE PET OWNER SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROSECUTED NOT THE MAN WHO SHOT THE PET. BUT AGAIN DON'T LET ME CONFUSE YOU WITH THE FACTS, I AM JUST TRYING TO BE FAIR AND BALANCED. YOU OUGHT TO LIKE THAT.
  5. JD: I don't disagree with your opinion on the incident. I just found it amusing that you called the Southeastern missourian a liberal newspaper. Do you read it or is just everyone that disagrees with you a liberal. Your quote: "I will give the SE Misssourian a little credit, they did report the story with both sides if you read it all the way thru." That does not sound like a liberal point of view it sound like a fair reporting of the news and good journalism. I agree the man with the dog is at fault and needs to be held accountable. If the story as told is accurate the dog needs to be uthanized and the man that defended himself and property not prosecuted for shooting the dog. You must be reading a different article than the one you refered us too. What is slanted about the story????????????? In fact the story actually praised the man that shot the dog for his service etc. The caption just states the fact of the incident "LOOSE DOG SHOT TO DEATH" How is that slanted???????
  6. Have you tried to take the line completely off and rewind it back on from the other end. Some of the lines can be reversed this way and have double ends that can be used. If that is not a possibility check page 80 of cabela's fly fishing 2008 catalog. Two of these line leader loop connectors could be put one on each piece and then looped together. There is usually 3 or 4 in a package for 7 bucks. I do this for a sinking tip that I use to keep from changing reels.
  7. That liberal press that you mentioned is actually one of the most conservative papers in southeast missouri. Check it out. On the next section to that story is a regular feature writer James Dobson. You might want to check out your sources before posting them. A recent snippet from the paper's editorial section "Rarely do I part company with U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson. I respect her, agree with the vast majority of her positions, admire her ability to balance the partisan battles in Congress and firmly believe her roots — both philosophically and politically " Jo Ann Emerson liberal.... I don't think so!
  8. My son and his family (my inlaws) are planning a trip to the white river staying at Wildcat Shoals area next week (4/17). Any suggestions on what to use. What are the expected water conditions? They will have some of the group fishing bait, some spinning with lures and jigs, and some fly fishing. This is an annual trip for them so they know the area but the conditions this year will be much more challenging and different than usual due to the high water. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
  9. Hey Trav: The good news: You don't have to listen to us city slickers saying how lucky you are being on the lake. Hopefully all will be resolved without too much more caos shortly. Hopefully the mild side of the forcasts will be the outcome.
  10. I hear that a simular poll was taken in Saudi Arabia. 81% think America is on the right track and the other 19 percent are in Iraq blowing up our brave Servicemen and women..
  11. Sounds like a great idea. Let me see. I get a $ 100,000 dollar RF generator and install it under my hood and then a test tube of salt water. I hook the RF generator to a 5000 mile long extension cord and plug it in and I am set. Oh the media sensationalist didn't mention that. It kind of like the E85 engine in my Tahoe that burns ethonal at $ 2.70 a gallon. They don't mention that I only get 10 to 12 miles a gallon on E85 gas.
  12. From experience of rewire and installation I would suggest that you purchase plastic conduit at least 1 1/4 inch and just installl it in the wall. Exit it to the basement or ceiling and all of you future upgrades will be a snap. The government and the electronic industry will do the same thing it is doing now and make needless changes to infrastructure code and requirements. Then we will need to change everything again. Conduit is the way to go and easy to install initally. For non current carrying wires you don't even need boxes but they are nice if you put them at exits and entrances. Just be sure to place a piece of nylon twine in the conduit before you close the wall. The reason I suggest larger conduit is because the cords required now, HDMI et al, are usually purchased with larger terminal connections and harder to fish through walls. Unless you have access to special tools they are difficult to fabricate and must be purchased with termination installed. Another way they get us. Redicilous (60 dollars for a required cord) to get HD and that is the short one.
  13. Thanks guys. All that is new from when I was there. WHAT A GREAT SITE FOR INFO!
  14. John: I have fished rim shoals a couple of times and drove down a long country road to get to a private access. I am just curious as to where you access the area or what is the best way to get there?
  15. Pomme de Terre Lake, completed in 1961 by the Corps of Engineers, covers 7,820 acres with plenty of boating, fishing and water recreation potential. The Department of Natural Resources manages Pomme de Terre State Park, which is situated on two peninsulas at the confluence of Pomme de Terre and Lindley Creek. The park consists of 734 acres with lake access, camping, hiking trails and picnic grounds. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers accesses and campgrounds complement state recreation areas here and at Truman Lake. The Pomme de Terre arm of Truman Lake is comparable in size to Pomme de Terre Lake, with an equal amount of public land and water. Both reservoirs are probably best known for fishing, but each has ample space for hunting, hiking and nature watching. The Corps of Engineers manages thousands of acres of wildlife habitat on the upper portions of Little Pomme de Terre, Pomme de Terre and Lindley Creek in cooperation with the MDC. Could this be what you are looking for?
  16. Only single point flies in zone 1, single point or treble hook lures...not plastic zone 2, Nothing about two flies or a dropper in the regs. I just read them again. I guess some interpret that only a single point fly can be used as only one fly but that is solely the description of the fly type that can be used not the number as I understand it.
  17. One way to paint jig heads that I have found real easy is to cut a saw blade wide strip about 1" longways down a piece of lumber. You can then insert the hook part of the jig into the slot leaving just the lead part of the jig showing. Then a can of spray paint can be used to paint several heads. I use a hard enamel and put several coats leaving drying time between coats. You can do 50 or so at a time that way. Feather craft used to sell green, orange, white beads that can be put on a scud hook. I have several of the green and orange ones that I use for jigs. Let us know how you do.....good or bad. I plan to be there for kids day later this spring.
  18. The video was in the right column next to the phil and bill one when I viewed it. He was saying as he ran up the hill I want to show this to my mom and the lady videoing replied I am not following you to the car. I assumed it was his wifel
  19. The person video taping was the guy's wife not someone videoing poachers. You can't fix stupid. She actually posted it on you tube. "people lined up along the banks videoing poachers" Kind of a stretch isn't it? IT WAS THE GUY'S WIFE! DID YOU EVEN CLICK ON THE LINK? if that was food for thought we will all die of starvation.
  20. I am on the Trout Unlimited email listing and that is where I got the information. The outdoor channel in my area for Ofallon Missouri is channel 45 for charter if they haven't eliminated that one too by now. Atter Charter got our money and subscriptions in this area and wined and dined the local politicans they have removed at least 10 of the origninal channels we were promised and raised the price yearly.
  21. For those of you who can pull yourselves from the new spring hit "THE BILL AND PHIL SHOW" there is what may be another good watch produced by Trout Unlimited on the Cable outdoor channel. That would be channel 45 on charter for my area (Ofallon Missouri) TU's new television show, On the Rise begins its first season on the Outdoor Channel this Friday, April 4 at 8 p.m.
  22. Great story. I wish there was some way to stop the snagging. It is especially bad at outlet 2. The sad part is most of those who do it there know it is wrong and don't care. Kind of hard to prove a guy wasn't just setting the hook.
  23. Subscribe to the Arkansas weekly state report via email. John Berry and others give weekly updates on the rivers there. If you click on the flys recommendations they will usually send you to a picture. http://www.agfc.com/fishing/fishing-report...ng-current.aspx
  24. The JD works at Taney as well as BSSP. I switch to it sometimes at Taney ane almost catch a fish or two on it. I am going to BSSP on Kids day with my grandson and will try tying some of the JD's. When I get them tied I will post a pic of my version. You are right Pat. It most always works at BSSP. The ones I used before were just the green color beads with eyes tied on a 12 scud hook with a little chennelle and green mairbou. I put a yellow eye with a dot fo a marker pen. Just more fun if tied myself
  25. I just tried it (1:40 PM Monday) and it worked OK.
