  1. Trav says??????? " for the record I wasn't disrespecting anyone " I say! For the record you were disrespecting leg buster. He made no claims of greatness. Just made a report in the best way he know how. Leg buster: Don't be discouraged 99% of the posters and readers on this forum appreciate anyone who posts a report and add it to our knowledge. Keep it coming. Thanks to all who PM ed me with agreement because they didn't want to get involved in the mudraking. I read it as long as I could without responding. And Oh yea I have fished with Leonard and he doesn't need to defend himself as a great angler it is a fact.
  2. Why put the Legbuster down? He just made a report which I found interesting. He didn't imply that he was a master fisherman and he didn't deserve the badmouth that Trav gave him. Read the Trav's below. Who cares about your digital Trav. We just fish to have fun and I enjoy hearing how others do good or bad. Trav's reply to a good report: "An 18 inch brown dont even qualify to hit my digitals. An 18 inch bow might though. If its fat enough. You need to fish further down stream." YOU HAVE AN EGO PROBLEM! As for Leonard: He is a generous guy who will help anybody that is interested. Lots of fun to fish with and quite a character. I consider him a friend and so do lots of others who have fished with him.
  3. lasgta88: Next time you are down at Taney contact Leonard at this site (click here: http://www.taneycomonights.com/) and arrange to go out with him. You will have the time of your life and I would bet go home with one of those PMS's. My grandson Zach and I did just that last summer. I might add it is not just the fly that catches the fish. As with any fly the angler must know how where to present it and how to present it to the fish. That is the art of fishing that we all continue to learn. I am still learning after 68 years and some days those critters are still smarter than me.
  4. Dano: Let us know how you do and what you think of the new rock dam they added. Dress warm and enjoy.
  5. I have an orvis, Hodgeman, and reddington set of waders but the ones I use the most are the cheap 49 dollar hip waders with boot feet. The last trip down to Taney they were running water off and on and I still used the hip waders mostly because they were easy to get on and off and store. I have found lots of times wading deeper just means that the fish move out farther. I just am interested in getting clear of the trees for backcasting and if that is not possible a roll cast will suffice. I see lots of fishermen wade out into the most productive stretch of water because it appears too shallow to hold fish (not) and because they think they can catch more fish farther out to the center of the stream. Then I see a boat come up and fish from the deep water into the shore area that was walked through and catch fish.
  6. Makes you wonder when you see adults with children in their boats with no life jackets on. I have stopped several times in the many years I have visited Taney to explain to them that even an adult probally couldn't be rescued if their was current. Many looked at me like I needed to mind my own business. One gentlemen (and I use that term loosely) even told me that when he was a boy they never had life jackets and he can't remember anyone ever drowning. Go figure. Ignorance is bliss. Right Terry. Prayers for the family
  7. Just posted a reply to a post and it loaded almost as soon as I hit send. The only difference was that I typed most of the post then left for a while to review some info and then came back to finish before sending. Go figure.
  8. Stealthy cat: Great post. Thanks for sharing. I had the same experience in the western waters where pictures of 14 and 16 inch fish made it to the local papers. With the exception of the San Jaun tailwaters in New Mexico thats what I experienced. Remember lots of water in the west is not open us outsiders. Floating streams as we do the white and Taney is mostly out of the question unless you have wire cutters and a keflon vest. The droughts has really decimated some of the fishing accesses also. When I fished the streams around Durango the water was dangerly low due to low snowfalls and dry summers. One of the state park accesses near the Platte was closed due to dry weather. I was lucky enough to know a resort owner who fronted the Wind River in Wyoming and did well fishing from private land and on the Indian Reservation areas were I was granted private access. Caught some beautiful Brookies on the Wind. Not much size but bueatiful marking. Nice browns with great fight also. I also found that the folks in the western streams were more tightlipped than the frendly folks in Missouri and Arkansas. I was thinking as I enjoyed your post that I hope not to many true Trout Fanatics outside the area saw them.
  9. Yes. The PM that I sent you took nearly 3 minutes to load and I also had the same delay with a post earlier today. I thought it was because I had a pic even the pic was only 640. The post reply took abut 4 minutes to load and post.
  10. Regards to all who fished the tournament. My friend Jake who fished out of Lilley's the same time as the tournament called me when he got back. He had much the same to say as you concerning service provided by Curtis and hospitality at Lilley's. Of the flies that Jake caught fish on he also said this brown jig that I had tied for him had given him the best results. He also fished the fall creek area with success.
  11. Duckydoty is quite correct. You can quit anytime. I know I have quit four times since september this year and plan to quit again after my next scheduled trip in March.
  12. Great to hear that all went well. Bueatiful baby. I am sure that you will experience many joyful days of fishing together with him. Some of my fondest memories are the times that my two sons and I fished together from the time that they were old enough to land a bluegill until last summer with them and my grandchildren. Blessing to your family. God is Good.
  13. Add one more thing to the crappie nibbles and that is the bright red hooks. I have found when the bite is slow and scattered the red hook and the nibbles help lots. I usually put one red and one white on the tip of the hook with a minnow. I never thought of drying them but sounds like a good idea. Where do you fish crappie. I usually make one trip to LOZ in the fall and a couple to Mark Twain in the spring. If you hit is right you can clean up if you don't you just spend a day on the lake. The outlook for Mark Twain this spring is larger fish and more in the keeper category but due to several years of bad spawn fewer fish overall.
  14. Welcome to the forum Al. It is an interesting, informative, and enlightening forum with lots of diversity. Lots of nice folks that share valuable and timely info. I look forward to reading your posts.
  15. Hey crappie fisherman You need to get your facts straight. I spent most of my morning setting with my wife who has Alzhiemers. I did go to a friends house in the afternoon at halftime whose wife is also an invalid with my wife accompaning me to help him with an electrical problem. when my sitter for my wife came later in the day I went to clean up at the food pantry after they closed. My conscience is clean so your little mind didn't ruffle my feathers. What did you do with your time today?
  16. Glad to hear that the fishing was good this weekend. I didn't make it to Taney but some of my flys did. I have a friend (Jake) who I tied up some of the stuff that I had good luck with last month and six of his buddies who were staying at Lilley's this week end to fish. Hope they had a great time and experienced tight lines.
  17. What is really irritating to me is when the action on the field is interesting and exciting and the cameras are showing a picture of two has been announcers making small talk about something completely off the action. Here I set with a wide screen 1500 dollar TV with more than half of it showing a sideline commentator making obvious comments or two overweight has beens taking up 60% of the screen. Another pet peeve is when they put the station logo in the corner covering the stats or a wheather report map which is too small to make any sense covering up the stats. Picky Picky Picky.... I actually expect competence of some sort from a multimillion dollar network.
  18. My son's neighbor from Lake St. Louis caught a 5 pounder there last year on a fly rod.
  19. SIO: Where I fish for Speckled Trout and Redfish in Texas on the salt flats between Port Aransas and Aransas Pass they actually do use a small "boat" with a sail to get to the holes from the bank. Some of the locals get on the windward side of the intercostal or flats and float a rig out with lines attached with live bait. I don't know how they know when to pull it in but they come back to their pick ups with stringers of Specks and Reds to take home. I catch a few but can only wade out to the waist of my waders which is sometimes a long way from the shore. On the intercostal you can't wade out to far or when the big ships come through their wake will knock you over before you can get back to shore. Wading out usually spook the Reds but the specks are less wary.
  20. Half of the battle has been won now lets hope that the other half of prosecuting them in the courts is also won. Hopefully they are not connected and get plea bargans and jay walking convictions. Texas seems to be a little more rigid so hopefully the book will be thrown at them. Thanks for getting the word out Phil.
  21. check out this post from Taxidermist for good info on the white river conditions for fishing from a boat. click here: http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?s...ic=9107&hl= Pretty well answers your question.
  22. YSH: Another possiblity would go the the state park or Gastons just down from the state park and rent a small boat there. It would give you a feel for the river at that point and they could give you advice on how to fish that area. Lots of water to fish in that area before you get to the shallows down from Gastons. There are some good deep holes across the river from the state park that hold some monsters but are just out of reach of the waders even when there is no generation.
  23. Thank you Dano and Brian. I get so tired hearing about the liberal judges. If you check the facts. 7 of the 9 judges of the so called liberal supreme court were appointed to the supreme court were by conservative presidents. 80 + of the anti environmental decisions made upholding the kind of pollution issues we are discussing here were allowed by conservative judges. Read trout unlimited battles in the west on dams and clear cut logging. These are facts not rants. Now is a good time to pressure the folks in power before election time. The last time I checked it wasn't the "liberal side of the aisle" that weilded the stick for the last 4 years. Recalls? a waste of time. Never has worked and is very costly and slow process.
  24. SIO: If I remember you have fished Busch before?????? Have you been to Busch wildlife this winter to check the Trout ponds or anyone else? I am getting cabin fever and thinking of trying it for some action before makling a trip this month to Taney.
  25. I agree with Dano. The few times I have fished there when they turn on full bore you better know where the bottom is. Lots of shoals to tear up a bottom and logs to roll you over. If you don't mind going up and back just a short distance White hole is where lots of guides start off in the morning. There is a gravel launch there and deep water on the far side and in the middle. There is a real nice bank on the far side and water deep enough to fish upstream to the second resort which has a jetty out into the water upstream from their dock. There is a shallow shoal above that jetty. I wouldn't go up any farther than the jetty. Good spot on the far side from the jetty holding lots of Trout. That is as far as I would venture upstream. Down stream from the launch you can fish about 200 yards before it gets shallow. I have caught lots of nice bows in that section of about 1/4 mile max.
