  2. Great shape for fishing tomorrow.
  3. If you go from Tan-Vat down river be careful wading the bigger rocks have had some of the sand that has been holding them washed away by the high water and tend to roll when stepped on. Also there is more current and faster current than there has been in over a year. The river basically has changed a lot over the past 6 weeks. The better fish are lying in the slack water at the outside edges of the shoots. Also you can get by with 5X tipped, that's something that I haven't been able to do all last summer.
  4. The river is down and clearing nicely should be in great shape Friday morning. All roads are clear and dry.
  5. One last one! This is the hatchery as it was in the 40,s and this area is now above the Catch & Release area. They not only hatched trout but Bass and warm water fish.
  6. A couple More of the old Montauk Mill and Fish Pools.
  7. Some old Montauk State Park photos inside the lodge and on the river 1950's & 40's
  8. This photo was taken at 7:45 A.M. 2/26/13 at the main bridge on Hwy 119 Montauk State Park. No snow that the rest of the State got to the north of us but much needed rain. We will try to keep anglers informed.
  9. I will be posting an interview with Tom Whelan the Montauk Hatchery Manager today on the Ozark Angler Phone in report on The Montauk Report link. I will be asking questions that the anglers like to know about the 2013 trout season at Montauk. So check back later for that report.
  10. Yes they have a honer system deal to pay a $5.00 day use and parking fee. Well worth it!
  11. They are open all year and $50.00 a night and yes they have air and heat Microwave and small fridg fire pit. Public shower and bath rooms only steps form cabins. Children play area, and tackle /fly shop. This is not going to be the catch all fly shop but they will have a selection of the best flies & baits to catch the Spring River trout, soda, ice, snacks, here is their FB page http://facebook.com/mammothspringcampground
  12. Yes they bought it from them. As for the train running all night it worried me also but I have to say after staying a cabin I was surprised that it didn't bother me that much. The cabin's do block most of the sound. And about anywhere you stay on the East side of Spring River you have the train going by day & night. LOL. But the fact that this place is above all the Party Zone of the river makes up for it. I can take a few trains going by over loud rap music and yelling all night.
  13. Sorry It didn't work!
  14. I would like to give a plug to a couple of great folks at Mammoth Spring that are trying hard to get a resort going on the banks of the river right there in Mammoth. Not 1/4 mile from town on Hwy 63. (Turn right at the South end of Goosneck Island Parking Lot Drive not easy to see) They have campsites, a small fly shop, and 5 cabins. And access to some of the best trout fishing on Spring River. These folks work hard to make this into a place for the trout angler to go. They don't have a lot of money to pay for the advertisement some of the big box stores do but rely and word of mouth the get the word out about them. So I'm doing my part LOL. I fish out of The Mammoth Spring Campground Every time I fish Spring River, Have stayed in their cabins and have had a great outing every time. Some of the best Fly Fishing on Spring River is right out of their campground. You can find them on FaceBook at Mammoth Spring Campground. Hope them luck I know last season was hard with the economy, low water and heat. But with the help of the anglers I know they will be OK. I hope you guy's don't think this is Spam It's not intended to be I just want to help some great folks out that help me when I fish this area.

  16. Yesterday I spent about 3 hours fishing the blue ribbon area below Montauk. I had not fished this area for a while because of the low water levels. But it’s in great shape and after fishing it I found they are some fair sized brown trout still alive and well. I found three good sized brown lying behind some shallow weed beds in about 15" of water. The water has some color to it and is at a great flow. These browns were hitting scuds being washed off the grass and feeding fast from one area to the next. I was using 6X tippet with a 1/100oz Y2K in Char/and white. I was not able to hook up with any of the shallow browns. But moving down river I fished some deep fast water at about 4'deep. I caught 9 small rainbows and 3 brown trout. One brown about 19" and one at 17" and one at 14". All on the Y2K drifted from head of riffle to tail. Most came from the belly of the hole. They all hit HARD and fast. No pecking and sipping they hit and ran. Please if you fish this area keep what you want to eat of the rainbows but release the brown trout back to grow and fight again. The weather was coludy with some rain in the upper 40's.
  17. SOS Crappie and trout line Is a great line strong, felxable, low memorie, 2lb = 3lb 4lb= 6lb 6lb = 8lb test. 350 yard to 3300 yard spools. Green trout Ice blue Crappie. Love this like I use it for Smallmouth river fishing to Walleye fishing and it has not let me down yet. Knots hold and the price is great.
  18. Took this yesterday. http://youtu.be/-sAI3iLBTpo
  19. Not as low or close to as low as it has been for the past few months.
  20. This was taken at Montauk at about 7:30 a.m today. Finally the river is getting s flushing out.
  21. I will be going to Spring River on April 9th also. The best flies I have found this time of year has been the Y2K in egg color on the 1/10oz head. Also if the spin cast thing is what you are looking for the Lealand Lure Trout Magnet works great and also the Lealand Lure trout crankbait is great in the Brown Trout Pattern, this will also bring some nice Smallmouth to net. We might see you on the water.
  22. Same Here!!
