  1. Dries up every year, no fish in it since 2010 ;-)
  2. 2” swimming minnow on appropriate sized jig head. Purple over white or pearl white are good colors to start with, slow retrieve. Some places a 3” works better, but many times they ignore the larger bait and inhale the 2”.
  3. They should still be down there waiting to be caught again.
  4. Loved her laugh, I hate left laners, but guy needs to chill.
  5. Several big browns have been caught in front of the lodge the last 2 weeks so the pressure is on, looking forward to the picture!
  6. She would be a great replacement for Frank!
  7. Exactly, we put a whopping 3 in the boat the other day between us, my wife likes to make fun of us when we fish together and don't catch many.
  8. Need it to be pretty heavy to get it down on this river that's why I suggested some 1/4 ounce inline spinners, small rooster tails work well but you need to add some weight to get it down, Ham can tell you the best weight for the jigs better than I.
  9. It by no means is put a fly in the right spot and catch a fish, you still have to work for them, but keep after it and they will finally take it. Typical NFoW fish.
  10. Get a few 1/4 ounce spinners for the faster and deeper areas, I like suspending jerk baits, 4inch rapala is good, and I can find you a zig jig or two to try if you wish.
  11. Pull driftboat and canoe trailers with forrester, great car, won't get stuck.
  12. It is gravel, nice and ready to use. Guess they didn't get permit to concrete.
  13. It is a start for sure, my best memories are catching fish out of old crappy boats while the fancy boats come over and ask what you are using! Put a little motor on that john and you can really do some good.
  14. They have a subway, that way I could play in the summer too!
  15. Perhaps the best post ever!
  16. I was thinking the same thing, I doubt I would have listened at that age, but it is good advice. A canoe or johnboat with a trolling motor would be the way to go if you must do something. No real expenses once the boat is bought, and not enough money involved for anyone to get hurt too bad. I fished a bunch in college but it was all from a johnboat with oars, or a canoe, and of course it was done after homework was completed and tests were studied for. You'll find great fishing near boat ramps because everybody uses their bass boats to get away from the ramp.
  17. The North Fork of the White has an ongoing reputation for not being a good dry fly river. Huge hatches are commonly met with only the occasional riser being seen. The last few weeks on the river have been the exception to this long held belief. Good hatches of primarily brown/tan caddis mixed with some mayflies and other variations of each have been occurring on a daily basis when conditions permit. I have talked to numerous people that had taken advantage of the hatches by catching more fish on dries than I had ever heard of. One man talked of a 20 fish day from one riffle, another of a 50 fish day. While I'm not sure the 50 fish day is totally truthful (surely he was counting takes, not catches) yesterday showed me that big fun can be had on this river when the fish are rising. Brian Sloss from the eleven point called the other day wanting to fish, we agreed on yesterday and set off from Kelly in the drift boat. I told him to bring a dry fly rod as I had heard reports of success on elk hair caddis. We started out like usual drifting the rubberlegs with a dropper of some sort. It didn't take long and we had several fish in the boat. Then we started to see it. Just above the falls we finally gave in and pulled over and rigged for dries. Brian caught several wading there while I was blanked while trying a black caddis to his tan. After skillfully negotiating the falls we were met with even more risers, and took turns catching and missing fish for the next hour or so. I threw streamers between runs to no avail, and the nymph rigs were put up in favor of drifting dries through the riffles. As the clouds thickened and the wind freshened the fishing got a little tougher, but we still caught fish at or below each riffle, and while most were only in the 12 inch range they were fat and strong. We saw a few bigger fish, including a few browns rising, but couldn't fool any into eating. We ran into one other fishermen on the river who was also beating them up on dries, and then met a guide and two clients from the White River, who came to Sunburst to wade fish the caddis hatch. I guess the word is out but who knows how long it will last. I'm eager to get Amy out in the boat to try her hand at it, from a drift boat dry fly fishing is so much fun as you can often see the fish come off the bottom to swipe at the fly. I hope this ends soon because it is really going to hurt my productivity, especially with white bass, and turkey season just around the corner. Man I got it rough!
  18. agreed, plus you might meet someone with a boat, much better than owning your own. Don't get a credit card either, makes it to easy to buy things like a boat, or way too much Mexican food.
  19. I wouldn't go to Sunburst that guy ain't right. On a serious note, for an entire week of wading I would look to do more than 1 river. Find a place you want to stay and you could hit nfow, white, norfork and eleven point, and even the Spring. All of these are about an hour, give or take from here. I personally would get bored wading the same water all week, but you could easily find 2-3 days of wading on many of these.
  20. Exactly why we need a new system hopefully common core can help, rural kids and poor kids don't have access to thesetype of programs so they have to get it from the public schools. I do think it is great that you send your kids to this program, it is just to bad we have to rely on this sort of thing to properly teach our kids.
  21. Never really know, usually gets up a time or two but comes down pretty quick.
  22. Looking like it will be moved to fall, lodge has been too booked this spring, working on making it more fun than even last year!
  23. You are right smallie, horrible parenting is what is wrong so we have to find a way for these kids to learn on their own, 5 minutes ago my son taught me how to do long multiplication a totally differnt way than I have ever done it. I still like my way, but this way is easier to understand. As for this thread I enjoy hearing people's opinions on real life situations so if you don't like it go check out the crappie moving to the shallows threads and stay out of these deeper subjects.
  24. Good question, I doubt it though, we could never admit other countries teach better than us, so we probably developed it.
  25. I was cussing and frustrated and agreed with Scott 100% for the first couple months, I have slowly come around to seeing the benefits of common core. Many kids never figure out how to learn, I have tried to teach my kids how I used to learn things but it doesn't always work for them, common core is attempting to give them the tools to figure out the best way for them to learn as individuals and not forcing a certain way that for many does not work. Those of us who did well in school did so because we were able to figure things out on our own, and developed our own methods of study, I hope cc will help those that aren't as good of students become good students as they figure out new ways of learning. I think this will be good for our children, rps is right it will be harder on the teachers and I already know it is harder on parents, but it is shameful how far behind we are from much of the world, so teachers and parents need to suck it up and give this thing at least one generation to see if it helps bring us back in line with much of the world. If not we can go back to being stupid the old fashioned way.
