  1. Just reasonably moved from Ozark to Marshfield, and while driving on A Hwy. I see this tiny little "creek" and as I get closer the green sign reads "James River". Quite a different sight from driving over the James on 65 in Springfield. Im really excited to try out this spot. Planing on doing some wading and kayaking (if possible). Can anyone give me some pointers on this location? Or directions to other rivers close to that location. Iv heard of Panther Creek but have no idea how to get there.
  2. I believe the 10 stands for the 10 round magazine that comes with the gun.
  3. It's a Ruger 10-22. It's a 22 caliber semiautomatic rifle. I call it the boy scout gun cause it's smaller in size and is one if not the most popular/commonly bought rifle of all time. Great for new shooters. It's a staple in the gun world.
  4. HEY NOW! I bolded my answers. I just had to put my though process out there. Great idea I mentioned it at church tonight, and all the guys got to laughing about how we all have massive tackle boxes but we only use maybe 3-5 different lures/flies when we fish. However, they are all our favorite lol and we cant choose the top favorites. We are still haven't come to an agreement on the firearm debate lol.
  5. 10 times... just 10 wow you really are disciplined. Something I miss is the feeling of wade fishing and stepping on a spring and thinking to myself "Gosh that feels good" I even miss the bugs, snakes, and the mowing... THERE I SAID IT. lol
  6. That will preach!
  7. 1) Pistol (CCW) Shotgun (Multi Purpose) Rifle (Range) Glock 19 Shotgun 870 12g AR-15 (just for survival purposes) 2) Kayak (easy) 3) River (easy) 4) Spinning or Fly Rod HOW DARE YOU FOR MAKING ME CHOOSE 5) Jig 6) Wooly Bugger but poppers close second 7) Olive 8) Green Pumpkin Candy 9) Lures 10) Smallies!
  8. I believe that a lot of people when purchasing survival gear get caught up in this gear mode and forget the essentials. Trust me Im always wanting more gear so I can be prepared for an emergency of any kind. However, the best way to test to see if you have enough gear is to take all your gear and I mean all your gear and use the woods in your backyard. Just you and your kit. Constantly ask yourself do I really need this...? or would this trip be easier if I had... I believe that you will find the flaws of your gear that way. You should also do this at different times during the year and not just when the weather is fair. Cause survival isnt camping and it never will be. Also use the woods in your backyard to your advantage. Take a knife with you and a water container and fishing line and a hook and see how long you can last. Then when your done (or cant survive any longer)walk back to your house get something to eat watch some TV and sleep in a warm bed and be THANKFUL lol. For survival I have multiple bags filled with different items. For example when its starting to get cold outside I put my winter gear bag in my truck. Its has a jacket, sleeping bag, first aid, candles to heat my truck cab, shovel (do dig myself out) gloves, long underwear, and a lot of other "O CRAP my truck is in a ditch, its 0 degrees, dark, and Im out of cell phone service" gear. I also have a backpack with the essentials and I mean essentials. Multiple ways to start a fire, waterproof tinder, water, 550 paracord, small first aid kit, shemagh, knife, firearm, and a few smaller items for EDC (everyday carry). This bag is always on my person and doesnt weigh much at all. Finally, I also have minimalist backpacking bag with... 1)ENO Hammock, ENO Rainfly-Shelter 2)Sleeping pad, Sleeping bag - Bedding 3)Jet Boil cooking system - Cooker 4)Water storage 5)Fly Rod- The backpackers best food finder. Small, lightweight, and will catch fish, small hooks catch small and large fish, and for around here Id take it over snares any day for the week. There is a lot more to be said about survival gear and no matter how good your kit is it will never be ready for it all. However, I'd take me and my preparation over rubbing two wet sticks together and shivering, hungry, and thirsty.
  9. Nice smallies! Whats flies were you using?
  10. What size hooks on the craw and worm?
  11. I love wade fishing in small streams and fishing the deep pools (4-5 ft max usually) What types of flies would work the best for that type of fly fishing? Iv noticed that when Im not fly fishing I have a ton of luck with an Eakins Jig with an Eakins Craw and 4 inch plastic worms. What flies would resemble those lures?
  12. Great video! What flies were you using?
  13. As an angler I am constantly learning or trying to learn more and more about fishing. I started this topic for people to list off anything book or internet resource that they believe is a must for stream fishing in the Ozarks. Anything from atlases to specific species to just simply tricks of the trade. So what are your resources. Mine are as follows... (there arnt very many and thats why im throwing this out here.) Missouri Department of Conservation ( http://mdc.mo.gov/fishing Google Earth (Small streams are sometimes a pain to find on some maps) http://www.google.com/earth/index.html
  14. AHHH why must you torture me with pictures of wade fishing in local streams when its FREEZING outside! So was the first picture a lure that was working at the time or...?
  15. Thank you very much and I only catch and release anymore. Its always better fishing when I know the fish are still going to be there when I go next time.
  16. Thanks. Any small streams that are close?
  17. Just moved to Marshfield. Just wanting to know of some good fishing spots around the area. Can anyone give me some directions to any good spots? Thanks.
  18. Tried to do some fishing upstream from Green Bridge today. Saw a few bass caught none. However, I heard and saw these. Truly incredible!
  19. I prefer to use an Eakins Jig with an Eakins crawl. Just let it sink as soon as you cast it and bounce it slowly to you. While letting it rest ever so often. If you need pictures just let me know. I also us a 1/16 ounce jig with a green (anything dark in color) worm about 4 inches in length.
  20. Iv never been out the this bridge. However, I read about it on here and I was wondering if anyone has had any luck out here. Also would you go up or down stream for better spots for smallies?
  21. Yeah I just concentrate every cast on the deeper pools, tree cover that provides shadow, and for submerged logs. If you can find a place with all of that in one spot, just fish it alllll day. I found a spot that had all of those elements and I usually spend the majority of my time there.
  22. Im gonna hit up the James tomorrow. Thanks Dave for the warning!
  23. When out on the kayak and fished downstream of the RR bridge. Fished the Point and river channel (where the river forks to the park and the the RR bridge. Water was about 87 degrees, and the fish bit my lure once. However, as soon at it turned 10 o clock the fish started biting. Caught 3 keepers and about 4 other smaller LMB on plastic worms with a heavy sinker. I had to keep 2 cause they swallowed the hooks before I even knew they were on. biggest fish was almost 3 lbs and right at 18-19 inches long.
  24. Thats weird Iv never seen a sign posted there. Ill have to look the evening when I go to church. Do you know how long the sign has been up? cause there are always at least one car parked there and on the weekends there can be a lot more.
