  1. A little late but Merry Christmas to all.
  2. If anyone gets the itch to build a catfish tank you need to think about your source water. Does it have chlorine or not? Chlorine will kill them. You can fill the tank 24 nours ahead of your fishing trip and aerate it. After 24 hours the chlorine is gone.
  3. That is from the catfish eating algae. They will eat their fill of algae. Their stomach dissolves all the microorganisms and aquatic insects. The algae then passes on out. The meat takes on a rancid dead fish smell. Your choice is either through the fish away or you can put them in a tank at home, keep them alive for a couple of weeks and that problem will fade away. I find this problem real common in winter when food is scarce for the cats.
  4. Is the meat along the back on those 'stinkers' yellowish/green?
  5. I'll second that. Much better.
  6. Your right Sac River Jim. You either head up toward the river where the water is cooler or north toward the main lake. When we were out Sat all the fish we caught were well north of Springfield landing in fence rows.
  7. This year is just like the last two. Nitrogen and phosphorus high. The only thing going for us right now is that the water temp is lower than normal for summer time. I was at CC this weekend and it was 80. Last year at this same time it was 88 to 89. The number of water samples on the lake has dropped as I have heard that the MDC has lost some of its volunteers. The last results I saw was from May and the decrease in O2 was just starting.
  8. Excellant job Walcrabass!!
  9. The water at CC right know is a real thick green color, 84 and I believe low on O2. We couldn't find much around the bridge with our fish finder. Had to go north about a mile to start picking up anything.
  10. Well I guess an old dog can learn new tricks. I have been fooling around and found you can hit the quote button on a post, edit the wording in it and post that altered post. Can't say I like that very much.
  11. Well if you look at my original post it says..... "U. S. Congress initiated a similar test project on some southern Calif lakes about 10 years ago for evaluation. There was very little response from the public. They included $20 to $30 fees on each campground. That test project also included $10-15 launch fees EACH time you launch a boat. All the marinas were privatized on those lakes with a jump in their fees as well. It makes me think it was a 'success' as far as they were concerned and it is spreading east. Just a guess." Now I am sure RSWSC just clicked on the quote button. But how did that last sentence get in there? "Somebody tell me how Johnie Morris PURCHASED Gages Marina? I understand your yearly pass isn't any good there anymore, and they charge a launch fee." I sure didn't enter it. I don't like someone else being able to change my post. (And I don't mean RSWSC) That could lead to a lot of misunderstandings and ruffled feathers. Something I don't ever want to do.

  13. Sorry for your loss lmt out. We have to value the time we have with family. It is so short. Speaking of age at passing. I attended two funerals in the last 6 months of two ex employees. One was 39 and the other 41. Both passed from heart failure. And both left families behind. So sad.
  14. Made a trip around parts of the lake today. State Park Marina was extremely clear. I would say 10' or more. Water temp was 59. Ruark Bluff was very clear as well but not as bad. Probably 5 or 6' where we stopped. Water temp was around 58 to 59. Windy banks had less visibility and looked more fishable on both these areas. CC (greenfield Landing) was nasty looking. Very green and foul looking. It looked similar to the start of turnover. Water temp was 66 to 71. No one seemed to be catching cats on the riprap yet (although they were trying). Happy fishing all.
  15. Actually I look at it like this. Those fish are still in the lake during daylight hours. In addition, if God turns out the lights it must be bed time. lol
  16. Well the wife and I drove in to one of our favorite coves for spawning crappie. Caught a total of 22 from the bank. Boats, boats and more boats and some bank fisherman as well. We didn't want to risk changing places as we were afraid we be tough out of luck. So we hung in on the same place all day. It must have been a good place. I also caught 4 keeper largemouth from 16 1/2' to 18". All caught in an area the size of my livingroom (which isn't very big). lol All females with eggs. All caught on shiners in 6' of water and most of them in the middle of the day with bluebird skies. Go figure. Wishing all the best on your next trip.

Well, I guess I need to turn my computer Into an anchor. lol I clicked on your link and it took me to a list of lakes. I clicked on Stockton and it took me to a new window which contained the Stockton file. I have clicked on everything on that page and nothing happened. Oh well. Definitely operator error. lol

  25. Just got back from CC. Water is a good color and is running around 60 degrees. Unluckily only 2 crappie. I did not see any others being caught either.
