  1. Those guys down at Dale Hollow love those tail spinners
  2. I think the rocks in their head are called the "Otalith" ? anyway did you ever notice that when you hook a drum (usually in the middle of the river in current)with a jig, they always seemed to hooked in the bottom lip? I was told by an old timer that they cant see the bait until they twist upside down to get a better look. Don't know if its true or not but I DO know that a high percentage are hooked in the bottom lip. Absolutely cant keep them off my wiggle wart in the lower Meramec. And for a split second, you always think you caught the grandmother of all smallies!! They are fun to catch!
  3. Understand, what I meant was it may not have 50-50. Anyway I'm pretty sure it's not 100 percent smallie. What would get interesting is if that bass would grow another few ounces and become a record, would it hold up as a smallmouth record. sorry to bore you with old news
  4. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it WAS possible for a SM to hybridize with a LM
  5. This monster smallmouth caught out in California looks like it's at least part hybrid to me, what are your thoughts? http://www.trophybassonly.com/id226.htm
  6. yea, maybe their yacht ran out of gas
  7. Wrench, Here is a tid bit of good news: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/24/business/economy/24forecast.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss&src=igw
  8. I agree, I already have been tying hair jigs for around 10 years and I don't know how I could become more obsessed with fishing. PS. I think George was my favorite beatle
  9. My business dropped by 85% in 2009, at the same time my wife told me she was pregnant! Hello pork and beans and bye bye to Starbucks. It all worked out though, always does, just a temporary set back ......I'm with ya
  10. Well, time to start a new year and a new start to fishing. I'm going to make a new years resolution to try a new fishing method. Maybe try to use a fly rod, Maybe get back in a canoe again. With a 14 month old at home, my fishing time is greatly reduced, so I need to Have a plan. Either way let's all try something new this year.
  11. How about the "MFU and a couple of other non players" forum
  12. I know where went, I know where you went
  13. I'm not sure I like the way our society is evolving, yes we need to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels, that's great. In many other areas we are going in the wrong direction, if that's evolving, I want no part of it
  14. Ha, I love the signature too! But Jeeez
  15. Stop picking on the guy (gotmuddy)
  16. I agree with that, but they aren't the worst
  17. Since "faux" News isn't so great, I'm curious to hear which news you think is the most correct one and why? I know Fox is right slanted, but what cracks me up is no one will admit that MSNBC is left slanted...answer the question!
  18. Good question... I know how you fish, I'm just trying to even our chances! If you can catch 30 bass that average 17.5" per day, I'll buy you a Steak dinner at Fleming's which includes a bottle of Opus One. The only true way to evaluate the process, is to have a guy in the canoe with you tracking the progress and then have the same guy sit in your jet boat tracking your progress there.
  19. Thought this was an interesting article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/dec/03/wikileaks-us-manipulated-climate-accord
  20. Gavin, I understand your frustration with jet boats, I used to feel that way. But there's difference in a 200 HP jet and a 60 HP. Most of the guys in jet boats just like to cruise up and down the river with their babes on the deck in a bikini; Stir up the mud on the first 3 or 4 feet from the bank, and ruin it for all fisherman. These are the same guys with the cigarette boats on Lake O. Then there is the fishermen, We just use it as a means to get from one spot to another in comfort. I like to slow down when I pass a canoe, but I know some guys that think the wake created by slowing down is worse than if the boat is up on plane. I'm a Metrologist and do laser scanning for a living, I was reverse engineering (scanning) the entire hull of a boat at the Express factory in Hot Springs, AR in 2003. They couldn't pay me on time so they gave me a jet boat and trailer for a super deep discount. I also had a 2003 Skeeter I won at a smallmouth tourney in Lake Erie. Within 6 months I sold the Skeeter and never looked back. I used the jet at least 3 times more than the Skeeter. If you ever fish out of one, you will be hard pressed to get back in a canoe. It's like washing your dishes in the sink vs. buying a dishwasher....too hard to go back.
  21. Ha Ha, I wasn't referring to you about catching the other species (Cricket asked in 1 post if he could weigh in goggle eye). I now you are a fish catching machine so we are in deep doggy poop. But I usually concentrate on big fish, puts us at a disadvantage. Ok, how about top 7? Also we need to have access to an equal number of holes as the canoers
  22. "Get in line. It is now time put up or shut up. One day. One river. He chose the jet, I choose the water. He said he could catch more out of the jet than I could the canoe. If he is a man of his word, we'll see about that. To make it fair, I won't pick any water in my backyard. I will pick one east of the James." Hey, I never said That I could catch more fish than you.....I meant the person could catch more fish out of a jet boat boat than a canoe in the same water as long as both had access to the same holes.
  23. Hardly fair, the second day we can use a canoe too, and top 5 fish weight, I'm not going to put up with you yahoos counting carp, goggle eye, drum, shad and blue gill. Bass only strict 15 inch limit, top 5 weight each day
  24. Dammit Al, I thought you were a jet boater, now you've gone and sworn you allegiance to the Dark Side. At the end of the day are you going to tell Cricket that you are his father?
