No it is not near any other body of water that could contaminate it. They had to have been purposefully. Stocked. The water seems to clear for carp or catfish ( although there a few channels). It is mostly bluegill, a few green sunfish, shad, and bass pond, with one mammoth beaver.

Oh and mic there are some decent channel cats

I will post pick, but. I am 100% sure they are gizzard shad. I was shocked the first time I started catching them. I actually fished regular gear for bass at first, but it produced only small bass so I changed to fly gear figuring there would be nice bluegill, which is true. What surpised me was for every 20 fish I catch even on fly gear is evenly distributed among the 3. That seems like a lot of shad. I too thought there has to be some big bass, but in 2 years I haven't seen or heard of anyone catching any. Maybe someone dumped some in thinking it will help bass growth...still seems like it should fish better.

Not on the Missouri, but when I fish for catfish I find the biggest shiners I can. I always had better luck on them then stink baits etc and often this was fishing right next to guys using those baits. I think larger minnows are overlooked for catfish bait.

I have a 2 acre pond in our subdivision that at first glance looks like very fishy...and it ought to fish better than it does. It is clear, deep with plenty of cover (maybe too much at times) and a nice variety of habitat. If I could design one myself it would look similar. My issue is the fish population seems way out of balance due to the C/R regulations. There are plenty of small bass, but they rarely are larger than 12 inches. There are some really nice bluegill, and a boat load of shad some up to 10 inches. I mostly fly fish it for the small bass and bluegill, but I catch just as many shad as I do the other two species. It seem pretty obvious that the Shad are the problem as some of them are quite large. I am worried the Shad are going to wipe the other species. The bass don't seem to get big enough to take advantage of them as a good source. Any thoughts on removing some the Shad or it is a lost cause?

I too like the rubber legs on anything including the pheasant tail and Hare's Ear. I like the size 10, but agree visibility is a must the smaller you go. I tie something similar, but much uglier than wrenches pattern and it works both under an indicator and slowly stripping it. I like simple small foam hopper's not to bulky for topwater.

That be interesting to try and get him back. Not sure either party would go that route, but that be entertaining for sure. JimTressel?

Is The Sun Causing The Current Climate Change?
stlfisher replied to Tim Smith's topic in Conservation Issues
You keep alluding to the models being wrong. That is not an argument for our against climate change. They are models which are guesses. Our best weather models still get the details wrong all the time, but they do a remarkable job at predicting the large scale synoptic features and pattern changes in the long term. They struggle with details up until the day of and sometimes still get it wrong. But they tell us it is going to storm, temperature changes, and if it is going to rain usually well advance. The models predicting sea rise and warmer temperatures are certainly valid, but they won't get the exact amounts correct. If you need those details as evidence that is never going to happen. The only way it would be possible is to have all the variables that never change...again that is not going to happen. Climate change is real, and I believe we are the cause. To deny it IMO is just silly. I agree we are going nowhere fast so I only hope that an alternative fuel becomes viable soon enough that it is economically feasible to use. Otherwise, as stated above our legacy of destruction will doom us long before anything else. -
How long ago did you stock it? It will take awhile to produce a decent fishery. You should stock Bass 1 year after stocking the other species....otherwise they may eat all the bluegill and minnows before those fish have a chance to spawn. Then you have little food left. The catfish if stocked larger may have had the same effect. The MDC has great information on pond management and will stock fish for free I believe. The fish will be fingerlings etc, so you have to be patient, but that is the best way to produce a quality fishery long term.

Not much I could see last weekend, but the fishing was the toughest I have seen in awhile. Low clear water, cold front, and bluebird skies had them in flight mode. You would thought I was fishing a mini nuke the way those fish were fleeing from my offerings on Sunday. I sold out and caught a few on glo balls, but that was about it.

No mention of MU's loss to Indiania? You all must be as embarrassed as I am. I am trying hard not to overact, but I am worried about the rest of the season and our ability to stop anyone with an offense. I am probably too invested in college football, but that literally ruined my weekend and if I wasn't out fishing it would have been really really bad.

The was I look at the red ribbon area is the way I look at most white and red ribbon trout areas in our state...stretches of tweener water that is really not ideal for any fish species, but when conditions are right can produce good trout fishing. To me, it will always be borderline, but it is more about MDC maximizing the resources they have. Better to have mediocre fishing than no fishing. It is worth it IMO.

Trophy I think you have stumbled on to your own solution. Just go down to the gravel bar in your best robe and start praying, ask them about being saved, and their thoughts on the upcoming apocolypse. For good measure use a few rocks and make a few funky symbols on the gravel bar. Maybe paint a few red marks on the rocks. They will probably freak out and leave. I too would be annoyed in your predicament.

I tend to agree. Should the suspension been longer...off course, but is that a reason to fire him? A cover up would be a different story.
-
Not saying I agree with what he is doing, but it sounds a bit like a pro day that many college football teams already have. I can see how it would be a distraction to have scouts constantly at practices during the season, but I don't buy that as the whole story at all. Certainly part of this seems to be about impressing recruits as well. I bet we see more of this in short order especially with the other top programs.

Yep, these early games don't do much for the established teams...just a watered down playbook and execution is all most teams really need. MU looked fine...a lot like last year in these early games...maybe even better IMO. Does not mean much for the rest of the year, but looking fine so far. The BIG is just a bad conference this year and Vanderbilt looks like an 0-8 team in conference play. What the heck was Pat Haden thinking arguing with officials on the sideline of the USC/Standard game? The head coach looks like someone who needs to call mommy when a call doesn't go his way. That was just weird and should never happen.

Trout park fish are not as easy to catch as most would have you think. Sure they can be easy pickens during the early morning hours, but weekend days with low water and tons of fisherman usually does give them lockjaw. I struggle during the heat of the afternoon at times too. There are some techniques that work weather you are fly fishing or spin fishing. 1) if you are drifting a bait you need a drag free drift and will need to mend your line. This is difficult for some beginners, but it is essential to catch trout. 2) 2-3 lb test is a must on heavily pressured waters...which trout parks are 3) Fish in areas that have current...the fish are usually more active and most weekend fisherman will move past these areas. 4) Fish your fly or lure as close to the bottom as possible unless the fish are feeding on top. 5) Use glo balls...they flat out catch fish. Get a tri color one.

Cardinals showing signs of just maybe putting it all together, but waino has me a bit concerned. Royals look good.
-
Mizzou looked like a team with a bunch of new guys to me. They weren't exactly dominating in some of the early games last year either. I think the offense is going to take some time, and Mauk needs to learn to be more patient, but I think they will come around. Defense was fine IMO. One big running play against a very very good running back. The rest of the time we shut him down. Secondary is young, but very talented. The OL and DL have the potential to be great IMO. I am not panicky yet, but I am looking for a much sharper game against Toledo. Baggett still frustrates me....that guy is going to cost us a game again I fear.

Sam, had most of his production in 3 games last year and disappeared in quite a few games against the better competition. He is a pass rusher that is it...nothing else and his competition for the last spot played better and can also play tackle. He just wasn't good enough to make the Rams roster...that is all. That being said I am Sam fan and I hope he gets picked up by another team, but he is a borderline NFL player...kinda like 4a in baseball.
-
I hope we play, especially basketball, but the football games (except 2007) never had the same intensity for me. Besides It might be tough to schedule a game...lots of interest. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/8/26/6071781/the-entire-sec-wants-to-schedule-Kansas

Yeah, just a sad story and quite the experience.
-
A and M looked awfully impressive last night and Carolina looked terrible on defense. Both will probably not play to those extremes the rest of the year, but it sure shakes things up in both divisions. The SEC West just looks brutal this year.
-
The one thing I want to see happened this year is for somehow Oklahoma and South Carolina to meet in a bowl game or in the playoff. With the way Spurrier and Stoops like take jabs at other teams those press conferences would be epic. I am looking forward to playing Arkansas finally and starting that rivalry and I am glad this is the last year we play A@M for awhile. I think this the 5th year in a row...nothing against them, but I would like to see some other teams from the west we haven't seen yet.
