  1. I believe that if someone interferes or harrasses with a person fishing within the banks of a stream or river that has been accessed by way of a public boat launch put in by the Missouri Department of Conservation, then the harrasser/interferer should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. The state of Missouri has laws in place to keep this from happening and yet it still happens all the time. The only way to stop this type of harrassment and intimidation is to punish the law breakers. This stream, Shoal Creek, has obviously been deemed navigatable by someone in the higher powers of the states government, or the MDC would not have put in, not just one, but five public boat launches on the stream in order for the public to navigate, explore, fish, and clean up trash and debris on the stream. I, Kurt Sherwood, strongly demand that something be done in order to correct this wrong doing and to insure that it does not happen again
  2. That is weird. Never knew that could happen.
  3. Sounds like a great trip and a great weekend. Congrats!
  4. I wade fish, but most of the floater's I have seen put in at Baptist and go down river. There are a few that put in Tan Vat, but I think the majority start the floats at Baptist and head down river.
  5. I use both. I have done fine with 5x mono on the river. In Fluoro I use 3x - 5X. You could probably just buy one large spool of regular fishing line...either fluro and or mono... and just use that. My buddy does this and he catches plenty of fish and saves a bunch of money on leaders/tippets etc. In fact he just uses 5 feet of 10-15lb mono and then ties 3 feet of regular fluoro or mono to the end. Catches him a ton of fish and saves him quit a bit of money. The only negative I don't like with fluoro is it can break easier if your knot is not tied correctly. Mono seems to be more forgiving in that respect.
  6. I was routing for Butler as well. Too bad they went ice cold. I think they shot 18% for the game...ouch!

Yeah a tough few weeks for Mizzou. Time will tell on the new hire...totally out of left field if you ask me. I almost feel sorry for the guy...he seems doomed before he get's a chance. Winning can change that though...guess we will see.
  8. Nice report and pics....enjoyed it. I only use a net for large fish as well. I just work most fish into a shallow area (if possible) with mimimal current, gently cradle, and unhook the fish. The fish is never really out of the water and seems to work good for me. I use heavier line which helps me to land the fish quickly.
  9. It must be my junky work monitor, but everytime I read the title of this thread I think it says "Few Interns for sell or trade." Best of luck in your sale!
  10. There used to bea an old fishing show "Quest for Adventure" that had Glen Laue and Flip Pallet as hosts. I used to watch them on the Outdoor TV channel on the the net. Good shows...not sure if they are still playing on the site though...couldn't find them last time I looked, but you might be able to order a few of the shows.
  11. got me too! Too funny!
  12. Nice report, great fish, and great pics. Looks like a great time!

Yeah, I don't see why they don't schedule each other in the first 10 games of season. It isn't like football in which losing one game can ruin your year....you have 30 more games to make up for a loss. Schedule a few gimmie's and play a few good teams before conferance play. It was fun to watch Mizzoui play Georgetown earlier this year, but why not schedule a few teams close to you that you don't regularly play? Tennesee, Kentucky, and Arkansas all border Missouri and would be fun to watch. Maybe rotate them through every 3 years or so.
  14. Enjoyed the show last night. Anyone else make it out? I would recommend attending next year. They handed out some hat's, gave a away a few things etc. All in all it was a good time.

It is looking like it may be Matt Painter from Purdue which I would be very happy with. We will see what happens over the next few days. Wash U or SLU are not in good areas, but have there own appeal namely academics. I am Mizzou fan so I am going to be biased, but I think Columbia is a great college town, but I assume everyone thinks that of there preferred university etc. Lot's of fun tailgating and going to games etc. Maybe Mizzou and Arkansas schedule each other...not likely...but would be fun to watch.

I can understand Kansas being easy to recruit for the tradition in basketball but don't see much if any difference between Arkansas or Missouri recruiting wise.
  17. It has been a very entertaining week!

I am not under any illusions that cheating doesn't happen and probably quite often, but I don't know about Bruce Pearl. He got caught...twice. He is not even good at cheating. Makes me kinda nervous. It would however promise to be very entertaining. I think Cuanzo Martin ends up at Mizzou, but I would love to have Painter from Purdue even though it is not likely IMO.

I was really dissappointed with Missouri's peformance this year. I am kind of eh on Anderson and his system. I can't believe all the horrible shots Mizzou took this year. That being said I do think he is a stand up guy and runs a clean program the right way.
  20. I usually have good fishing on the Current so no dissastisfaction from me. I do agree that the pressure around Tan Vat especially last time I was there was trout park like. I just think it is the time of year more than anything with the weather getting nicer and everyone trying to cure cabin fever. I usually catch more fish ouside the park than in it.
  21. Bluegill's love rubber legs on the flies. I have had occasions when the rubber legs made the difference between a bite and not a bite. If they are not taking dries on the surface I usually fish a rubber leg nymph under an indicator. The big Bluegill will take a big bugger as well.
  22. I would look at TFO or St. Croix. St. Croix has some nice options that are affordable. The Avid is a great rod, but may be more than you want to spend. The Imperal and the RIO Santo have positive's review's as well. I have heard great things about the Echo Carbon which is comparable in price to a TFO pro series. As far as weight I started out with a 9ft 6 weight to use for both bass and trout and found it to be very versatile, but it also didn't excell at fishing for either species. I thought it was on the heavy size for trout and on the light side for bass. I actaully like my 5 weight for trout, small bass, and large Bluegill. If I want to target big bass I would use a 7 for smallies and an 8 for largemouth (especially in areas with vegetation etc). Just something to consider if you want to seriously target big bass it might be worth it to buy one rod now and a second heavier rod later on to toss the big bass bugs. If you just want to target smaller bass and trout mainly then the 5 weight will get it done easily and give you a better all around trout rod IMO.
  23. I would say there is no wrong way to fish a Bugger. I have caught plenty of fish stripping against the current. As mentioned above the only downside to stripping against the current is your fly will hold near the surface unless you have a lot of weight. I like two short strips, pause, and repeat.
