Two young teams. Should be close.
-
Yeah, I don't think Kul took it well when he was passed over for Odom as DC last year. I don't think Kul and Odom got along very well either. I think that was the third time Kul was passed over for DC. For whatever reason Pinkel and company only saw him as a position coach. I think Kul may try to get on with an NFL team if he doesn't get a coordinator position. Still sucks he won't be staying...he is very good at what he does.

Yeah, I think 2017 could be special. The real issue is the gap in recruiting that reared it's head last year. It will be fun for sure, but I like what i see from Odom on the recruiting trail so far. Keep that East St. Louis pipeline coming.

No one thought that James Franklin was any good in 2012, but he turned out to be great in 2013. I don't think you can throw in the towel on Lock at all. He clearly wasn't ready, but most football people smarter than you and I think Lock is going to be very good. I think you will be surprised next year. As I said there is a reason very few freshman play and we saw why. NFL guys like Chase Daniel and Blaine Gabbert did not play much the first couple of years and they turned out great. It easy to dump coming off a bad year, but this team wasn't that far away from being a good team. Even improving to an average offense would drastically change our record. We gave up 30 points 1 time. That is really good. Odom has already landed a 4 star out of Texas and flipped a quickly rising 3 star 317 pound OL from ESTL. Everyone that knows Odom believes he is going to be a success and he is an excellent recruiter. I feel really good with what I have seen and read so far.

I am glad we aren't on the hook for Heyward's salary. He is fun to watch, but as Joe said he is not a impact bat. He is more of a slap hitter and it looks like he his hitting in a phone booth. Piscotty will be the better hitter at a fraction of the cost. We will miss his defense, but you don't pay for defense. That being said we do need an impact bat and another pitcher at some point.

I think they will be much better than 6-6. Tough schedule, but the defense is going to be even better. I mean our DL is unreal. Even a marginal offense and this team will be good. This last year reminded me a bit of 2012 and 2013 turned out to be one of our best teams ever. We played a lot of true freshman this year on offense. We saw why even the elite schools have very few true freshman play and only a select few have an immediate impact. I was guilty of expecting too much from Lock as a freshman. At least some of the freshman will improve. Cam Hilton looks like a player. Johnathon Johnson tore his ACL, but he has Jeremy Maclin like talent. He will be a big impact receiving and returning kicks. I am not sure about Moore or Brown, but we have enough receivers like 6 foot 7 Justin Smith who redshirted this year. Emmanuel Hall will be good. Trevon Walters, who most haven't heard off was out this year with an ACL tear. He will compete for the starting running back job against Strong, Doherty, and (gulp) Witter. The OL will be interesting and that could be a big issue. We will see what new coaching does there. I don't see the doom gloom. This is not rebuild situation. I predict everyone will be pleasantly surprised next year.

I like the hire, and I think Odom is a great fit. Sure there is risk, but I think he is going to be great. The recruits seem to love him, and has been hitting the recruiting trail really hard. Not accepting a bowl invite is going to help in that regard. Really interested to see who the coordinators will be. I think we will be fine next year. Even modest offensive improvement and this years team would have been decent.

Hey mic was hoping to head to Maramec or Montauk this weekend, but our house has been hit with the plague so i will be playing doctor instead of fisherman.
-
It is Odom. You never know with coaches, but this was a great choice IMO. We will see how it works out.
-
Curator's meeting tomorrow afternoon. That would seem to imply the coaching search is over. I think the odd's favor Odom, if they announce tomorrow, but it is anybody's guess. They have a done a good job of keeping this under wraps for sure.

anyone now what the water level is like in the spring branch?
-
Personally, I think that Barry Odom needs to be on your short list. He is widely considered as an up an comer and this is a destination job for him. This is how Mizzou will have success IMO. Sure there is risk, but no more than any other candidate IMO. I agree with the LSU fan above. Now way is Les Miles is a fit at Mizzou. Yes, he won a national championship, but he has all the advantages at LSU that we would not have at Mizzou. He is an average coach, with a quirky personality, on a team full of 5 star athletes. I don't fault him for losing to Alabama, but they have lost too many games the last several years and he is 62 years old. They should have won more with the talent he had. He won't have that talent at Mizzou. He wouldn't come anyway. I think Odom is your guy.

Glad the protest over and we can get back to talking just about the teams we follow. I am hopeful that basketball will take a step forward this year and I think it will, but still it is a very young team. I hope they give Kim at least one more year to get it together. He reminds me of Gary Pinkel in the way he recruits coaches etc. Should be interesting.
-
Yeah, kinda more of the same from him and really sad in a way. He has some issues that are more than a college kid who likes to party. Kinda surprised they didn't boot him entirerly, and i can't help but wonder if theses issues affected his play last year. Hope he gets help cause i am not sure anyone will touch him otherwise(assuming he transfers).

Well our OL struggles still continue. For a unit of all seniors that is pretty bad IMO. Florida's defense is great, but if you can't pass protect and you can't run you are going loose almost every time. Still really like our defense...pretty solid IMO and should only get better next year, but man I am terrified of our OL next year. If the guys we have now can't beat out the starters that is concerning. Looks like Florida's starting QB suspended for 1 year for PED's. The weird thing is some Florida press were tweeting it out during the game. Wouldn't have changed anything, but that seems a bit shady if they already new.
-
Should be a tough game today. I don't like our chances if we go down 2-1 in the series. Wacha is going to need to pitch a shutout tonight and we are going to have to make Arrieta throw a lot of pitches...even if we can't hit them.
-
True Joe, but in these circumstances I think it is justified. Florida will be a huge challenge for lock this week.
-
Yeah, not really a big deal and by all accounts he stayed of trouble the last several years. I think he always got along well with the coaches...just made bad choices off the field. He could be amazing if he can stay on the field.

DGB arrested in springfield, mo for speeding and unpaid parking tickets. Dude you have money now pay your fines.
-
This is Mauk's 2nd offense (the first being the scooter incident). I am not sure the team can legally even comment on it especially if it is an addiction (healthcare laws) matter. The silence and weekly meeting supports the rumors of a man be giving the chance (help) to get clean or get out. I am not convinced it couldn't turn into a legal matter, which could also be a reason for the silence. He is Johnny Manziel...without the talent.
-
Maty Mauk's suspension continues this Saturday. Drew Lock will get the start.
-
Lock completes the short simple passes and our running game opens up. He needs to start every game. Not sure about Mauk's susoension, but as OTF said some ugly rumors that if true are not good for him.
-
Maty Mauk suspended for South Carolina game. Satus to he evaluated after Saturday's game. Fishy...lots of rumors, but explains closing a portion of practice today.
-
Was down last weekend. It was tough IMO. Sunday am hatch saved the weekend, but it was the toughest I can ever remember it. Water is very low and clear. No pattern I could really find, except olive. Hopefully, you will get some rain before your trip...that should get them moving a bit.

Yea, it is going to be tough this year based upon what we have seen so far. We are young at many key offensive positions and the OL struggles is a mystery to me...kinda makes me really worried about that position next year too. Maybe Pinkel and company were trying to beef up the defense the last couple of years, but the team seems to have an entirely different identity from the offensive teams of the past. Just not sure if that is on purpose or not. Looks like portions of practices will be close initially this week...probably means there will be some changes on the depth chart.
