I have never seen anything smaller than a 9.9 rental. I have fished from wildcat to calico and never seen a rental bigger than a 15 and smaller than a 9.9.
I couldnt imagine fishing with 3 units and running a 7.5hp. the reason I like a 9.9 better is they are set up for shallow running better than a 25. a person good with a boat can get up a shoal with a foot of water. if your serious about low water fishing, get a jet. I have both.
IMO, unless you fish 3 people all the time, the 9.9 will be your best bet. expect a strong 9.9 to push that boat about 15mph. a 25hp will push it 20. the only upside to the 25 is the option of running a jet, which is becoming much more popular on the white.
I love fishing them in eddies, right now deep pools. on places like CC I look for the deepest water I can find and chunk it. places like southfork I look for moving water(when its warm). I caught a 18" smallie right next to a large boulder on the lower buffalo. I dont know if there is anywhere I WONT throw a jerkbait, haha.
great paint as usual. I havent used suspending jerkbaits in creeks per say, but I have had great luck winter fishing on the 11pt fishing megabass 110s. I have caught large numbers of nice smallies in the summertime with LC pointers.
ive never seen a ranger or game warden while fishing in the past 3 years, however I only run a 9.9 on the buffalo.
Ham, have you had any hard hits with the fiberglass boat? I am sort of scared of hitting one with my new js boat.
running more than 100ft in 5" of actual water wot is more than scary. your boat will still draft 4" if you have a fiberglass jon. I have ran 3" of water for about a 25ft stretch, but I prefer at least 6"
I will spend an average of 1 hour motoring in a day of fishing. if I fish the mouth of CC I launch at buffalo city and thats 5 miles. If I want to fish the buffalo I launch at buffalo city and go up the buffalo 4 miles. sometimes I just go up a mile or two and drift.
the motor has 3 years warranty on the powerhead.
Honestly I dont see how the 4 stroke can use much less fuel than the 2, I have never came close to burning 3 gal in a day. I am not real concerned if it sells, I am plenty happy with this motor.
